It has already been a week since the whole Eclipse Spaceship explosion and Sonic wasn’t faring well.
He was still mourning Shadow, keeping on thinking it was his fault if he died. If only he had been stronger, if he hadn’t lost control of the emeralds Shadow would still be alive.
He knew deep down that it wasn’t his fault, his family keep on reminding him of this, but when everything was too much and he was crying himself to sleep, the thought couldn’t help but come back, haunting him.
He was currently in the living room, having been woken up by a nightmare, the TV was on but Sonic wasn’t listening to it at all, it was more to have a background noise than anything. He couldn’t stand the silence right now.
A knock at the door nearly made him fall off the couch in surprise. He got down carefully and went to the door.
He opened it and nearly pass out. Shadow was standing in front of him, looking really battered.
- Hi, muttered Shadow, sorry I didn’t know where else to go
With these words the hybrid passed out and Sonic quickly caught him before he touched the ground.
- Chaos you’re heavy, huffed Sonic
With difficulty he lifted Shadow to carry him bridal style to the couch. He laid him down and took the time to look at him.
- OMG what happened ?, he said horrified
Shadow has blood all over his body, multiple bruises and he was pretty sure some broken bones. He was breathing with difficulty and Sonic was at a loss, he didn’t know how to help him. Against his will tears appeared in his eyes and he began sobbing, knowing that if he didn’t do something very quickly Shadow wasn’t going to make it.
Suddenly there was a flash of bright light, forcing Sonic to close his eyes. When he opened them again a young woman was sitting at the end of the couch.
He immediately knew she wasn’t human. Her eyes were golden and her hair seemed to be made of millions of stars.
- Hello Sonic, she said gently
- Hiii, coughed the hedgehog, uhm I’m sorry but who are you ?
- My name is Sarah, she explained, I’m the Goddess of Stars and Prophecies, I’m here to help you
- Help me with what ?, asked Sonic in bewilderment
- In saving Shadow of course, she smiled
- But why did you come all the way here for Shadow ?
- Oh my dear Sonic, she said softly, yours and Shadow’s stars are intertwined
- What does that mean ?
- It means that you’re meant to be together, she explained, in every single Universe in one way or another you two end up together, it’s quite literally written in the stars
- Wait there are other Universes beside this one ?
- Of course, Sarah smiled, we don’t know the exact number but I can tell you that there are a LOT
Suddenly Shadow coughed and his body began to tremble.
- Quick we don’t have a lot of time, said Sarah
- What are we supposed to do ?, asked worriedly Sonic
- In order to save him, I have to bind the two of you together, like this you will share your lifeforce with him and it will allow him to heal
- Let’s do it then, agreed the hedgehog
- Sonic, just to make sure you understand, if I tie you two together, you’ll become immortal, you won’t die before Shadow does
- Yeah I know and I don’t care, I’ll do anything to save him
- You really love him don’t you ?
- It took me a while to realize it but yes I do love him, Sonic smiled softly
Sarah smiled back at him before saying :
- Give me your hand
Sonic gave her his right hand and she took off his glove before making a knife appear and slicing across his palm with it. The wound immediately began bleeding and Sonic yelled in pain.
- Sorry, she said
- It’s okay
She then took one of Shadow’s hand and did the same.
- Now you’ll have to hold his hand, she explained, I’m warning you it’ll hurt like Hell but you CAN’T let go of his hand, you understand ?
- Yeah I do, nodded Sonic
Without waiting another second he took Shadow’s hand in his and immediately had to suppress a scream. It was as if a thousand of needles were coursing through his body, tears were rolling down his cheeks but he didn’t let go of the hybrid’s hand.
He felt a soft cloth being laid on their hands and opened his eyes to look. Sarah had laid a thin cloth on their grip and she was whispering softly, her eyes burning a bright gold.
Suddenly the cloth disappeared.
- Where did it go ?, croaked Sonic
- In both your souls, answered Sarah, the ritual is complete, you can let go
With a relieved sigh Sonic let go of Shadow’s hand and took a deep breath.
- Did it work ?, he asked
- Look for yourself, smiled Sarah
Sonic looked down at Shadow and smiled brightly when he realized that the hybrid’s wounds were closing slowly one by one.
- Thank you for everything, said Sonic, I don’t know what I’d have done if he had died in my arms, I don’t think I can live without him
- And you won’t have to, she smiled, you quite literally have forever to be with him
- Yeah, I don’t think I’ve ever felt this happy
- It’s too bad you can’t see what I see because your stars finally aligned and it’s so beautiful, sighed dreamfully the Goddess
- Well we’re very handsome, so our stars had to be too, smirked Sonic
- Of course, laughed Sarah, well I have to go but it was a pleasure to meet you Sonic
- Likewise, smiled the hedgehog, take care
- You too
With a flash of bright light Sarah disappeared.
Sonic laid down beside Shadow and decided to rest here so he’ll be there when the hybrid wakes up.
