Summary:

Work Text:

“Welcome princess,” sang the boys, “to the Ouran High School Host Club!”
As usual, all the girls swooned.
As usual, the boys assumed their personas.
There was nothing Kaoru wanted more than to break the habits. To change up the daily pattern of pretend. Every single day they put on a charade for these girls, and for what? when it was all said and done, what had they gotten from all of this?
“Kaoru,” Hikaru walked over to his twin, who was too deep in thought to be an attentive host, “snap out of it, we have a show to put on.”
“Oh yeah, ok lets do it.” Kaoru couldn’t muster the enthusiasm he usually could. Although Hikaru and Kaoru had been overly close for their whole lives, the ‘taboo twin love’ thing felt a little too much sometimes. Being in pretend love with his twin brother? Who couldn't be further from his actual type? It’s pretty messed up.
They walked over to a group of girls sat around one of the beautiful antique tables with imported tea and cakes. They were ready to be entertained.
Kaoru pretended to slip so that hikaru would catch him, they would press their bodies close, and say heartfelt words. They both knew the drill.
An arm around his waist, legs tangling in the attempt to keep each other standing. Kaoru had closed his eyes trusting that someone would catch him. However when he opened his eyes, it was not the familiar green eyes that he saw every moment of every day, but dark black almost violet eyes framed by smart glasses.
What?
Kyoya held him close for only a moment, using only one arm. Kaoru hadn’t expected this strength from him of all people. The bookish, pedantic, snarky host, strong enough to catch a boy his same size and hold him there, noses nearly touching. Kaoru could feel Kyoya’s breath on his lips and felt a buzz surge through his whole body.
It was just a moment, just one second of that contact, before Kyoya helped him up to his feet and walked away. Straight back to business.
Kaoru however, couldn't recover quite as quickly. He stood there with a stupid look on his bright red face. Hikaru stood behind him with a stupid look on his face too, just as confused as Kaoru. The girls at the table squealed in delight with this new intriguing relationship, both confused and extremely excited to see where this would go.

After the club closed up and the twins were on their way home, Hikaru turned to his brother and asked what they both knew was coming, “Kaoru, are you and Kyoya…”
“No, I don't know why he caught me, I was just as surprised as you.”
“I saw your face after,” Hikaru teased, “you liked it didn’t you!”
“No!”
“Look your face is red! You like him!”
“Do not!”
They both laughed, glad that they were able to joke about what had happened.

The same stunts, the same script, the same outcome. Why do girls like the twin thing so much? It was disgusting to Kaoru. He loved his brother as a brother, as a twin, as a best friend, and nothing more. Every day he was left wishing for a new gimmick to present itself as an option. No matter how hard he thought, he could never figure out something that would work as well as what they were doing now, let alone something that would work better. He had considered asking Haruhi, but then again she was barely a girl and not at all the type to swoon over any old trope. Maybe Renge would be a better person to consult with.
He went for the same move again, the trip-and-catch, looking around to see if Kyoya was nearby. Maybe he would swoop in again and save him. Not that he was hoping for that.
But this time, Hikaru and the girls at the table all grabbed him and started carrying him off. At the same time, another group of girls grabbed Kyoya and dragged him over as well. They were being taken to the same place, a small closet off to the side of the room where supplies for the club were stored. Both boys were fighting to escape, faces turning red from embarrassment and effort, however their fellow hosts were in on the plan and helped shove them inside and lock the door.
The boys crashed together onto the cold floor as the door banged shut in front of them. They were locked together in a room barely big enough for one, let alone two tall teenage boys. Their lanky frames untangled as they tried to open the door.
“Let us out!” Kaoru shouted, banging on the door hoping that some sympathetic girl would get second thoughts.
“Nope!” replied the hosts, followed by the sound of a crowd of footsteps walking away from the door.Tamaki was particularly excited about this, they could hear him trill in triumph even as he got further away. His enthusiasm grated on both Kyoya and Kaoru.
“Well,” Kyoya sighed, “we might be here for a while. Im sure they’ll get bored eventually and let us out. I just wish i had grabbed my laptop so that I could work while being trapped. It would have been… more convenient I suppose.”
“Yeah, I just know some of them are out there with their ears’ to the door waiting for us to make out or something.” laughed Kaoru, a little too nervously. His eyes darted around, not sure where to rest. He was glad for the dark to hide his scarlet face from his analytical counterpart.
Nobody could ever know how hard he had fallen for Kyoya, over months of watching him work. The way he sipped on a coffee (his favorite was black coffee from brazil with cream), typed on his computer and made note of everything that happened around him, the way he brushed his bangs to the side unconsciously, his smart glasses that sharpened his features like a knife, his pen that he would click subconsciously when he was thinking hard. Everything about Kyoya Ootori was perfect in Kaoru’s eyes. Until today it had been an impossible wish. Until the other day when Kyoya had caught him, nobody would have been able to tell. But since then, his brother and the others must’ve been plotting this, sensing Kaoru’s weakness and getting ready to monopolize it. Whether it was for monetary gain, social status, or genuine well-meaning stupidity, he couldn't tell.
“It would be a shame to make them wait long.”
Those words spoken in the dark sparked something in Kaoru, making him jump. What? Where did this come from? It was all happening so fast. What had he even said?
Kyoya leaned over, his long frame reaching for Kaoru. Those dark eyes lit up the dark room as they got closer and closer, they were the brightest thing in the room. They felt each other’s breath on their lips, savoring the moment before they made contact. At first Kyoya was gentle, lips like butterflies and noses tapping. But he leaned closer, closer, closer like he was trying to press all the way through Kaoru and touch the floor. Kaoru’s hands crept up further and further the deeper the kiss became, grabbing and brushing through ebony hair. Their lips parted, and their tongues swirled together. The taste of the kiss made them both more frantic, the intensity slowly ramping up until uncharacteristic sounds of desperation came from both of their mouths.
When Kyoya finally withdrew, panting like he had run a marathon, his eyes were even brighter than they were before. His eyes lit something inside of Kaoru, a deep and carnal desire that scared him in it’s intensity.
“Well,” Kyoya started in a low and husky voice, “we gave them what they wanted-”
Kaoru pulled on the neat lapels of the other’s uniform to bring their lips together again. They pressed their whole bodies together nearly merging into a single being of love and passion. Their hands exploring the shape of one another’s bodies, the outlines of muscles and bones that formed each other.
Kaoru had never really kissed anyone. Never anyone he actually felt for anyways. He had been forced to kiss his twin more than either of them liked, it disgusted both of them. A few times, girls had advanced on him and trapped him with their sweetness. But this was different, it felt like liquid fire dripping from his mouth through his chest and stomach, out to his arms and legs. It filled every part of him, this pleasure at the feeling of Kyoya on top of him, pressing their tongues together in an elaborate dance only they knew. Grinding their whole beings against each other. It was a sensation that felt unnatural yet indoctrinated into his core. His muscles all knew what to do even if his mind didn't.
He felt more than just attraction to Kyoya, more than desire and lust and all the other easy feelings. What he felt was far beyond just a crush or a one night stand. This indescribable closeness felt impossible and so natural to him that he didn't even want to try and rationalize it. His heart was on a string and the other end was tied around Kyoya, pulling them as close as can be. An emptiness within Kaoru was being filled with this pure love and it was filling in all his cracks.
In this one kiss he felt like he had gotten to know Kyoya more than anyone else ever would simply through the connection that can only be gained through physical contact. Learning the shape of a person not just by their physical shape, but through their passion.
Kyoya’s hands started to drift lower, glancing at Kaorus belt. They moved to his center, long fingers fiddling with the latch and undoing it slowly but surely. From there, those cold hands that seemed to always be doing something started coming up his shirt. The touch of skin on skin sent lightning shooting through every nerve. Between this and the kissing and the fire inside him, Kaoru was going to go off like a firework.
The door opened.
Kyoya’s head snapped up, but their bodies were still criminally close. Kyoya’s hands inside Kaoru’s shirt seemingly trapped by the fine fabrics. Both of them were breathing hard, their faces red and eyes lit. there was absolutely no way to deny the accusatory looks being shot down from the onlookers.
“Well,” thought Kaoru, “now at least the twin trope will have to be done.” that didn't really help the intense shame dampening all his fiery passion that had ignited him only moments before.
“Well well well! Did you enjoy your time together?”
