Work Text:

Shadow Milk wanders into the hallways of the spire and he is looking for a specific room. He doesn't know why he's trying to find him, maybe he just wants more entertainment, since life has been quite boring in the spire after a while, but no matter what the reason is, he stops when he reaches the room.

The room was easy to spot in the endless corridors of the tower. The door had a distinctive shade of light yellow, and it's light shines so brightly it reflects on all of the lamps scattered along the hallway.

Shadow Milk took a deep breath to calm his nerves, and barged in like he owned the place. Well, technically he did.

He turns his head to the direction of the bed and his eyes set on a figure laying on it. Shadow Milk walks closer to observe him. His chest slowly rises in a slow rhythm, his eyes are closed and he just looks so... peaceful.

A strand of silky golden hair falls onto his delicate face, blocking his view of this hellish angel. Shadow Milk lightly brushes the strand away and smiles slightly. He did something un-destructive today. Pure Vanilla would be proud.

" I'm sorry my love," Shadow Milk Cookie whispers, " I have to do this so I can keep you here with me."

The Truthless Recluse opens his eyes and stares at the jester with eyes void of emotion.

" Why would you want to keep me here?" He asks, voice monotone.

Shadow Milk avoids Recluse's eyes " Entertainment, of course. What else?"

" That's a lie."

" No, of course it's not. I do not lie, Nilly."

" You're the Master of Deceit." The Truthless Recluse deadpanned.

" Shut the fuck up! Don't use logic to talk to me, have you not learnt anything from living here?"

" No, not really, you keep me locked up in a room"

" Fuck you" Shadow Milk says as he unwillingly walks towards the door.

" Wait!"

Shadow Milk turns around and glares at the Truthless Recluse.

" What do you want?"

"Don't leave me, please." He replies, voice faltering slightly.

" And why would I care?" Shadow Milk snaps back. He regrets it the second he sees the hurt on his face, eyes trimmed with tears.

" Just... Just please." The Recluse begged. " I really don't- don't want to be alone right now." He stuttered.

" Fuck you." Shadow Milk sighed. " You're lucky I love you."

Pure Vanilla's eyes snap open at the confession.

"WHAT?"

If you asked him, Pure Vanilla would say that didn't like anyone. He doesn't. He really doesn't, and he isn't being sarcastic either.

So when Shadow Milk enters his room he is surprised. So, so surprised. He was so gentle, so unlike the Shadow Milk he was fighting a few hours ago.

He was so kind, and Pure Vanilla wanted him to stay. To stay with him.

Why?

Well, he didn't know.

He hates Shadow Milk Cookie from the bottom of his heart.

He has hated him since he knew he existed.

Shadow Milk is a horrible, horrible cookie. He is destructive, he lies, he tortures cookies and do not even get him started with what he did to White Lily. Poor White Lily, it wasn't even her fault.

Shadow Milk is a monster. A beast. He doesn't deserve anything good to him. The only thing he deserves is to rot in hell and die.

Shadow Milk Cookie, I hate you so fucking much. You destroyed my life.

" Fuck you." Shadow Milk sighed. " You're lucky I love you."

Pure Vanilla's eyes snap open at the confession.

"WHAT?"

" You love me?" The healer is too stunned to say anything else.

" Fuck..."

" What do you mean you love me?" He tries to sit up but winces at the pain from his hand.

" Be careful!" Shadow Milk basically shouted. " It's not fully healed yet."

" Don't change the topic, Shadow. You love me?"

Shadow Milk hesitated. Should he tell the truth?

" Of course I fucking do, why wouldn't I?" He said at last. " You're too perfect, Nilly, I don't deserve you."

Pure Vanilla did not like any cookie, and he hates this stupid jester right in front of him. Why is he feeling giddy? Why does it feel like there are butterflies trapped in his dough?

" You're right. You don't."

" I know I don't, but please give me a chance."

" I hate you, Shadow Milk. I've always hated you, I'll never like you." Pure Vanilla stated.

"Oh..."

The hopeful look Shadow Milk had on his face is now crumbled, and it physically pained Pure Vanilla to even look at his crestfallen face.

" I'm sorry, I guess." Shadow Milk gets up and walks out.

" Wait-" And the door shuts.

Shadow Milk runs back to his room as soon as the door slams shut. He runs and runs, until the door to his room is shut. He slides down the door in despair and sobs.

He cries and cries until he loses track of time. Has it been a few minutes, or hours? He didn't know. He bawled until he had no more tears left. It hurt so much, and he didn't know why. Was he really expecting something to happen between them? Pure Vanilla doesn't even like him, and that has been clear since the day they met.

Pure Vanilla had made it so clear that he despised the beast. So why did it hurt so much to actually hear him say it?.

Maybe he was too annoying, maybe he was too much again. Maybe it was because he was a beast, maybe it was because of how evil he was.

And maybe that's why he can't have the one thing he wants.

He gets up, drags himself to his bed, and slumps down. The soft cushions don't feel soft anymore, and the spongy blankets are nothing but pieces of wood to him now.

He feels so... Weak. He is weak. Maybe Pure Vanilla didn't like him because he was too weak. Maybe he had to be stronger.

Or maybe Pure Vanilla didn't like him because he was too loud. Maybe he should silence himself. Maybe he should-

Knock knock

" Get the fuck out." Shadow Milk spoke. His voice dry and raspy from all the crying.

" Shadow?" A soft, mellow voice filled the room. " It's Nilly."

Oh.

" Come in, I guess."

Pure Vanilla opens the door slightly, adorably peeking his head through the gap before fully entering the room. He walks towards the bed, where Shadow Milk was slumped at.

"Were you crying?" The healer asked, chuckling.

"Shut up." Shadow mumbled.

" Shadow I'm so sorry. Vanilla apologized. " This is all my fault."

" No it isn't-" Shadow cut him off. " It's my fault. All of it is my fault I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm-" A loud sob wracks through his body and starts the overflowing waterfall again.

" Shadow, calm down." Pure Vanilla spoke. His voice was as sweet as honey. He out his hand on Shadow's back and helped his breathing.

" I'm sorry, Shadow. I do love you. I really do. And we might get our happy ending some day."

" You promise?"

" Yes. I promise."

" And it's not my fault?"

'It's not your fault."

"Oh.. okay."

"I love you, Shadow."

" I love you too."

Notes:

Hope you liked it!!

Currently looking for other crk ships to write about because even though I've been part of the fandom since 2021 I still have no idea what ships people would prefer.

I went off track and kept getting distracted while writing this-
