Chapter Text
It was 8 a.m. in the morning. Two birds flew out of a tree and flapped themselves all the way to the castle. They went to the window and on opening it, they came into a suite- but they weren't alone, for in that suite, on the charming cream-colored canopy bed, lay a beautiful girl. She had lovely brown air, rosy lips and soft snow-like skin. She was peacefully sleeping, while under her bangs, lay, in the shape of a lightning bolt, a scar. Not a single soul in the entire world have any clue whatsoever as to where she got it from. Whenever she was asked about it, she would always say that she had got it when she was but a child, in spite of herself also not knowing the truth.
She would often experience very weird things happening to her. Sometimes, she would get picked on by some girls at their school. These were the royals who pictured her as an easy and a weak target, and would often trouble her after considering that she is powerless. But which person, who has always been loving all and hurting no one, get troubled like this?
Sofia always had her siblings by her side, and she also had her friends. Sofia had proven all of them wrong when she was just eight, and she managed to humble them all.
But this did not stop the bullying at school. Teachers ignored the bullying by calling it 'teenage drama'. Sofia would often get herself injured, but. But by the next day, she would wake up to find her skin in perfectly good condition and the bruises healed. Who knew that even the deepest of cuts would heal overnight? she would often think and then she would go by her day, just living with the hope that her day would go smoothly and quickly, even though that happened rarely. Now she had to go another day at school, getting kicked around like a football, but she knew that she had been picked on enough. She had had enough.
The blue bird chirped, “Sofia, good morning. it's time to wake up. Come on, it's past 8'o clock. You're going to be late for school.”
Sofia groaned and rose up slowly, “Yes guys, I'm awake. Although that was a bit weird dream I was having.” Robin, the other red bird asked, “Well tell us about it later, you better get dressed and go downstairs for breakfast.” Sofia nodded and got up from the bed.
She walked into her closet and came out within a few minutes, wearing a lilac-lavender gown and wore a tiara with white pearls and diamonds. She then went to her window seat where her best friend Clover, was snoring. “Hello Clover, get up now. It's morning.” He hardly budged. She sighed and said, “I don't have time for this. I'm going to be late.”
Mia said, “Don't worry Sofia, we'll wake him up for you. Go on now, you need to head out for breakfast.” Sofia smiled, “Oh thanks guys, what would I do without you?” She then went out of her room and went to the dining area, where Roland, Miranda, Amber and James were sitting. She said good morning and sat down and they greeted her back in unison.
She sat down and then Miranda asked, “Did you guys sleep well last night?” Amber nodded. Sofia then said, “I had a strange dream. About a broom, it was flying. Then I saw some green light. It was weird, but it felt realistic and.....good.”
Roland arched his eyebrows and Amber and James let out a laugh. “Sofia, don't be silly, broomstick don't fly, except for magical people.” Amber then said, “I'm getting vibes of a witch now. Sofia, you must be missing the sorcery classes we had at Royal prep, which recently got cancelled. You're going to be eleven on 31st July, which is about two weeks away.”
Apparently, a few sorcerers of various kingdoms had plotted to take over their king's kingdom. All of them wanted power and Sofia was devastated about this, mainly because Cedric, her trusted friend and mentor, was part of it, but he eventually decided to change and redeem himself. Sofia was very happy because of this, but the other wizards had not changed. Hence, they were banished from their kingdoms forever and if they were seen, they will be put to death, all of them, except for Cedric. These wizards were from the wizarding world, which had a dark side, full of dark wizards, who wanted to take over the world. That's why, people believed that witches and wizards did not belong in this world. Even Lucinda, Sofia's friend, who was a witch, had to go into hiding. Due to this, parent's concerns grew as their children were learning magic. therefore, they had all told the schools to cancel magic classes.
Sofia shrugged and said, “True, it was just a dream although I guess you can put it this way - dreams are hard to understand. Their pretty complicated.” James nodded and said, “Let's think about this later, it's time for school.”
Sofia nodded and then after kissing their parents goodbye, they hopped into their car and drove to school together.
As they were driving, Sofia saw a few owls flying through the market.
Amber raised an eyebrow. “What on earth are owls doing here in broad daylight ?,” she then peered her eyes outside, “My word, those people are dressed in such tall hats and such long cloaks and they are so dark-coloured. these people have very boring colour sense.”
Sofia nodded, “Amber, don't judge them so much. Although I have to agree, I didn't even know that those dress robes are even sold here.”
James said, “They're not, these people can't be of Enchancia". Sofia shrugged and said, “They must have come from far away.”
After a few minutes they reached school and as they walked through the halls, they ran into their friends, Desmond, Vivian, Clio, Hugo and Hildegard.
"Hey guys," Vivian said, looking at the trio, "we thought you guys wouldn't come today. It's almost time for class, you know."
"And I thought you wouldn't come today after Amelia beat you up the other day, Sofia." Hildegard said, fanning herself. Sofia shrugged, "I don't exactly know how I got better, but I guess it means nothing." Hugo then said, "I was getting worried about you, Sof. The way she beat you up was brutal and uncalled for."
"Tell me about it," Clio said, "Have you tried talking to any teachers about it?" Sofia shook her head, "It's no use, they never listen. Jesus Christ, I wish this school has some anti-bullying rules. That way, a lot of students can keep themselves safe." Desmond nodded, "Same. I remember the times I would be picked on like this, until I met all of you. I guess only the students who are friendless, are bullied like crazy."
The bell rang and it was time for class.
—(I'm going to time skip this as nothing exciting happens. The scene then shifts to after three weeks.)---
Sofia, Amber, and James were having dinner with their family. Suddenly, a majestic bird flew into the room from the doors and a guard is chasing after it. “I'm sorry, your majesties,” he bowed, “I don't know where this owl came from, but it isn't listening to me.”
Sofia and Amber giggled at the guards silly behaviour as he ran after the owl. But the owl didn't seem to cause any harm. Instead of biting anyone or trampling anything, it flew right in front of Sofia, who sat there looking perplexed. She then saw something on his leg.
“Look, there's something tied to this owls leg,” she untied the rope form it's leg and took the paper out, “It's a letter. It has an address,
Ms. S. Warren,
The standard princess suite,
The castle,
Enchancia.
James looked shocked. “Who the heck is S. Warren. That's not your last name, the owl has got the wrong address.” Amber jumped in her seat, “Ooh ooh open it Sofia, the suspend is killing me.”
Sofia opened the sealed envelope and took out the parchment. She then read,
Dear Ms. Warren,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Please find the required equipment necessary for your semester.
Term starts on September the first.
Looking forward to seeing you.
Yours Sincerely,
Prof. M. McGonagall.
Sofia looked up from the parchment only to see her entire family staring at her and the parchment with their eyes wide and their jaw dropped. James then broke the silence, “What on Earth ? This has to be a joke. If you're accepted at a school for…. Witches then that means your a witch.”
Amber said, “My goodness, no Sofia, you're not a witch. We all know what kinds of terrible magic witches do.”
Sofia raised an eyebrow saying, “Oh yeah, then what about Lucinda, she's a good witch-”
“Only because of you. You changed her-”
“Amber, I had been to her cauldronation. She had a friend who was a good witch, many of her friends were.” Amber sighed. Sofia frowned. Roland took the parchment from Sofia and looked at it, “It is quite strange that you were sent a letter from someone whom you don't even know. Don't worry Sofia, this must be a prank done to fool you.”
Sofia nodded, “Although, it is very strange, what if this person is real? And so what if I am a magical person?,” she gently took the parchment in her hand, “It could be true.” Roland frowned and took the parchment from her, “Sofia, I don't think such a school exists. Don't fall for tricks.”
“But I have a feeling that it is real-”
“Mind your manners Sofia! Go to your room, everyone. Dinners over.”
Sofia sighed and went up to her room.
That night, after sleeping, she woke up and went to the lavatory. While going back to her room, she happened to pass by the fireplace, where she saw her father, throwing the parchment into the fire.
She sighed and walked away. This is so weird, she thought, it's so hard to believe this. I guess I am going out of my mind. Ugh, maybe I'm just tired. And then she closed the door to her room and hit the bed.

Chapter Text
It has been a few weeks ever since the incident. King Roland has now had Sofia confined to her room so that she doesn't get her letters and she is only allowed to come downstairs for meals or if Amber and James wanted to spend time with her.
However that did not happen often as Amber was now afraid of the idea of her sister being a witch.
It was afternoon. The door of Sofia's room fell open and she came inside. She wasn't happy with how her life had turned out, all because of one measly letter.
She sat on her bed and rested her chin on her knees and tilted her head. Suddenly, from the little hole beside her bed and her best friend, Clover jumped out and stopped beside her.
"HEY Princess, why so blue ? Someone bullied you at school again ?" Sofia smiled and said, "No Clover, you know I never let that bother me," she sighed, "It's just....well, you see.."
And then, she told the bunny all about the letter and her father.
She was expecting him to laugh but he said, "Sofia, if that letter does say that you're a witch, then maybe it can be true. But the only carch is that if you're a witch, then you're supposed to come from a family of witches. You know, I've heard from people about his world of witches and wizards but I never believed it was real. People mostly look down upon these witches. That's why they're not seen much."
Sofia lifted her head and her eyes widened, "So it is true. There is a magical world of sorcerers. Oh wow, but I don't really believe it fully as my parents are not magical. How can I be a witch ?"
Clover arched his eyebrows,"Well Sof, don't worry too much. Maybe you will find everything out soon. For now, don't pay attention to this magic school."
Sofia nodded.
That evening as the family sat for dinner, they suddenly heard a noise outside. Suddenly, the door banged. Noone dared to move a muscle as they had a bad feeling about this.
Then as Baileywick took a step closer towards the door, the door suddenly fell flat and the figure of a giant came into view. Everyone screamed and Miranda immediately pulled Sofia behind her. The figure stepped inside.
He was so tall that he had to slightly bend under the door. Half of his face was covered by his beard. He carried a lamp in one hand and a pink umbrella in the other. He wore a torn jacket with pockets as big as a pouch.
He then said calmly, "Terribly sorry about the door. Didn't think it would break." He then turned back and picked the door and put it back on the entrance.
Roland held a gun in his hand and said in a shaky voice, "I demand you leave at once sir. You are breaking and entering."
Hagrid turned his head towards him and slightly bowed,"No disrespect, your majesty, but Im yere for a reason and migh' 'ave to stay fer a moment. And I most certain'y don' intend in harmin' any of ya."
He then looked at the nearby fireplace and pointed at it with his umbrella. Immediately, small sparks emerged into the fireplace. Everyone started at it, awestruck.
He then set the lamp on the ground and looked at everyone. Then his eyes fell on Sofia, who had her mother's arms around her shoulders.
The man said, "An' here's Sofia. Boy, I haven' seen you since you were a baby, dear. Yeh look just like yer mum 'cept yer eyes, they're yer dad's."
Sofia just looked at him, confused. She just saw him and he already knows about her parents, but how ? Her parents don't know him.
"Now don' think I didn't get yer a present fer ya bir'hday." He took a small box out of his pocket and gave it to Sofia. She looked at it for a moment and then took the blue ribbon and opened it.
"Baked it myself, words and cream."
There was a cake with the words written in purple 'HAPPY BIRTHDAY SOFIA'. Sofia smiled, "Thank you."
Hagrid said, "Tis not everyday our young girl turns eleven, is it ?" Sofia wanted to say her birthday was over but she didn't want to make the guy upset, especially after he got her such a sweet gift.
Sofia gave the box into a maid's hand, who bowed before taking the box away. Sofia turned her head towards the man, "Er.. excuse me but, who are you ?"
He nodded, "Ahh yes, fergot ter introduce myself. My bad. Rubeus Hagrid, keeper of the keys and grounds at Hogwarts. I suppose yeh a'ready know 'bout Hogwarts."
Sofia froze and looked down at her feet for a second and taking a quick glance at her father, said, "I've only heard the name, but I don't really believe that it is real."
Hagrid frowned,"Well, 'course it is real. If it wasn't real, why would I be here ? Why would Professor McGonagall send you your acceptance letter ? And where, pray tell, would yer parents be ?"
Sofia shook her head vigorously, "What's all this talk about my parents ? My mother is right here ! I think you're mistaken."
Hagrid frowned, "I am not. I definitely see that you don't know about anything. Well then, let me tell you, all of you, about what this wizarding world is."
In this world of common people, there is another word of magical people. It 'san enchanting place, the wizarding world. Some 'f the ordinary people know about it and even spread false information about it. That's why it's looked down upon by 'em. Now first and understand this majesties, cause it's very important. Not all wizards are good. Some 'f them go bad. About twenty years ago, there was this wizard who went as bad as you can go and his name was V- his name was V-"
Sofia calmly said, "Do you wanna write it down ?"
"Nah, I can' spell it. Fine, VOLDEMORT. There, don' make me say it again. Now this wizard, started to gether some followers, brought 'em over to the dark side. There were people who stood up to him...... And he killed them. Horribly. Now you see, at that time, you were born to Jenna and Adam Warren. There was a prophecy. A girl born at the end of July would be the cause of the Dark Lord's death. That was you. At the same time, nothing stopped him from trying to kill you. Your parents fought against him, but nobody lived once he decided to kill them. They died saving you, but then when the wand blasted the killing curse out, it rebounded and the dark lord lost his body and then you became famous. I had professor Dumbledore s orders to bring you to safety. I saw that you did not have any living families so I kept you at the doorstep of a nearby adoption centre from where you got adopted."
As he finished telling this, everyone stood there with their jaws dropped and Sofia was astonished, as a tear drop fell from her eyes. She said, "So you're telling me that my parents got murdered by an evil wizard," she then turned to Miranda,"Mom, did you adopt me ?"
Miranda sighed and nodded, "After losing my husband, I was lonely so I thought maybe adopting a daughter would be a good idea. I knew you weren't my real daughter, but I wanted to give you a good life. I never wanted you to feel that you're an orphan. The people at the adoption centre said you're parents died in a car crash-"
"A car crash ? A crash crash killed Jenna and Adam Warren ???! It's an outrage, it's a scandal ! "
Roland finally spoke up. "So it's true then. My daughter is a witch. And why should she come to this school ?"
Hagrid looked outraged, "Why should she come to school ? This girl's name has been written down ever since she was born. She's off ter the finest school of witchcraft and wizardry there is. She'll be with youngsters of her own sort for a change and she'll be under the greatest headmaster Hogwarts has ever had, Albus Dumbledore."
Roland now looked thoughtful. "But... will my daughter be safe there ?" Hagrid smiled, "You can trust these people, yer majesty. Hogwarts is the safest place ever for a young witch like her. Now she has been deprived of her parents, don't deprive her of her happiness now."
Miranda smiled, "I guess there's nothing we can do. Sofia, you can go to Hogwarts, but only if you are safe. Be strong, honey."
Sofia smiled, "Thank you Mom, I promise I'll be really safe there. Where would we get all my school books, Hagrid ?"
Hagrid patted her head, "We'll go tomorrow. An' yer parents can come too, if they want."
James jumped. "Oh yeah, I wanna see this. It sounds so cool. Can we go dad, please ?
Roland laughed. "Alright fine James," as James tried to convince Amber, Roland added, "Sorry about my son, he's a prince, but he's quite laid-back."
Hagrid laughed. "I've seen wors' people. Now then, I'll see y'all tomorrow. Bye then. I'll meet you at the crack of dawn by 9:30 a.m.
Chapter 3: A day at Diagon Alley
Chapter Text
'Okay, okay.. this was just a dream. I'm only a princess, an ordinary girl. Noone called Hagrid... Came to tell me about my parents', said Sofia as she rose from her bed and woke up. Sofia knew that she won't be allowed outside today also. She sighed.
She got up and got dressed. As she walked through her enormous closet, she thought which given to wear, but then she thought there's no point in wearing one, so she chose a simple pink trouser and a yellow crop top. She wore her usual tiara and sat down.
She checked the time. It was 8 a.m. in the morning. She then walked towards her table to do her hair. Just then, she saw a peice of paper lying on the table. She picked it up and her expression changed instantly. It all did happen. A guy called Hagrid had come she was a witch. The letter was from Hagrid. She then read :-
Dear Sofia,
I hope you fin' dis letter before 9:30. As per my words, meet me down at the front of the castle and we will go to 'diagon alley' to get al' yer schoo' supplies. If yer' family wans' 'ter come, it's fine. :)
Yours,
Hagrid.
Sofia smiled. She was going to learm magic and go to Hogwarts. She went downstairs for breakfast and came to the dining room. Her family was sitting there. "Good morning." Sofia said politely. Amber looked up, "Morning- oh my God! Sofia, what are you wearing ?! Where's your gown?"
Sofia said, "Well Amber, we are going to diagon alley today. We wouldn't want to be seen as royals, now would we?" Amber nodded in realisation.
Miranda then said, "Sofia, your father and I have some urgent work today so we wouldn't be able to come with you. But Amber, James, you both can go if you want."
James cheered and Amber shrugged," alright, fine."
-time skip-
It was 9:20 a.m. Sofia was waiting at the bottom of the stairs for Amber and James. Soon, she heard James come down. He was wearing a red shirt and black pants, along with a denim jacket.
"Hey Sof, do I look good ?"
Sofia nodded.
Then Amber came down. She was wearing a pink crop top with blue jeans, and a wristwatch.
"Wow Amber," said Sofia," you look great."
Amber said, "Thank you," she then looked at her watch, "Let's go, guys. Hagrid must be waiting for us."
Sofia and James nodded. The three then ran towards the doors and went outside. Sofia waw Hagrid at the base of he stairs, waiting for them. The three walked down and stopped in front of Hagrid.
He smiled, "Wel' now that we're all here, let's get going." And they all started walking away from the castle.
As they were walking, Sofia read the list of items they were going to buy:-

Amber said, "WOW, seems like we're going to be doing a lot of shopping today."
James groaned, "Yeah, so let's do it quickly."
Sofia then asked, "Hagrid, could we find all this in London?" Hagrid replied, "If you know where to go."
They then walked towards a wall and Hagrid tapped his pink umbrella on the bricks. Suddenly, the ground shook lightly and the wall parted to show a place which was beyond any of the trio's imagination.
There were many people walking here and there, in long black cloaks. Both sides of the street had different kinds of shops.
"Welcome, young royals," said Hagrid," To Diagon alley."
"So o'er here Sofia, ye will find yer school supplies, along with yer robes, wand, and pet."
Sofia nodded.
"But first, we will go to Gringotts:- Wizards bank. We can't use muggle money here, yeh know."
Sofia nodded and then the three followed Hagrid. Soon, they found themselves in front of a huge white building with pillars at the doors as well as on all four sides.
They walked inside. Sofia saw strange -looking creatures sitting on both sides, writing on parchments. They had big pointy ear and had a severe expression.
"Uuh Hagrid," Sofia said," What exactly are these things?"
"They're goblins Sofia, quite mad creatures, these are. Best ter stay Outta their way."
They then walked to the foont desk where the head Goblin was sitting.
Hagrid then said, "Miss Sofia Warren would like to open her vault." The Goblin set his parchment down on the table and climbed on top of it to get a good look at Sofia. Maintaining his severe look, he asked, " And does Miss Sofia Warren have her keys?"
Hagrid said, "Uh, on' second."
He then rummaged through his pocket. After a few moments, he said, "Ah, found it." He then pulled out a key and gave it to the Goblin.
"Oh and there's something else fer you," he took out a letter and continued, "Professor Dumbledore gave this to me. It's about the you-know-what in vault you-know-which.
The Goblin said, "Very well then." He then called another Goblin and told him to escort the four to the cart.
After a few moments, Sofia, Amber, James and Hagrid were sitting in a cart and at the front, the Goblin was sitting. They then stopped in front of a vault and the Goblin said, "Vault 687." He took the keys from Hagrid and put it into the small keyhole and turned it. The lock opened along with the vault to show a huge pile of money. Sofia and her siblings stared at it in awe as none of them had expected so much of money.
"Didn't think yer parents woul' leave yeh with nuthin', did yeh?" Hagrid asked. Sofia just stared at him before taking some money. Later, they were in the cart, on their way to the other anonymous vault.
After a few moments, Sofia could feel the cart slow down. The Goblin said, "Vault 713."
They got off the vault and Sofia asked, "Hagrid ,what are we doing here?" Hagrid replied,"Can't say, Sofia. It's Hogwarts business, top secret."
The Goblin ran his finger on the wall beside the vault and the door opened to reveal a huge space, but all it contained was a small peice of wrapped object. It looked quite curious and seemed like anyone who looked at it would want to open the wrapping and look at whatever was inside.
Hagrid took the wrapped object and turned to the three siblings, "Methinks it's best ter not talk abou' this." The three looked sceptical but nodded.
Later, Sofia, Amber, James and Hagrid walked back towards the alley. "So," Sofia said, "first we need to get my books." Hagrid nodded. "Yeh can find books from Flourish and Blotts. How about the three of yeh go an' get 'em. I'll be aroun' here." The three nodded and walked into the shop Hagrid pointed out to them.
Florish and Blotts looked more like a library than a shop, except that there were alot of people there, most of who looked around Sofia's age. Sofia paid 13 Galleons in total for all books.
Soon, they got everything they needed. Sofia then took one last look at the list and said, "I still need a wand, along with a pet." Hagrid said, "A wand ? Wel' then, you gotta try Ollivanders shop. They make the best wands, I tell yeh."
Sofia nodded. She, Amber and James walked into the store. There was nobody there, except for the shelves, filled with wand cases.
Sofia looked back at her siblings, who shrugged. She then walked to the front desk and said, "Excuse me? Is there anyone here?"
Suddenly, a ladder rolled on its wheels at her left. She looked up to find a man, standing there. He had furry white hair, along with dark coloured clothes. He looked at Sofia and slightly smiled.
"I was just waiting to get to meet you Miss Warren," he then climbed down from the ladder and was looking through the cases of wands. He then continued, "How time has flown. It seems only yesterday that your mother and father were here buying their first wands. Ah, here we are." He said pulling out a case from the shelf and opened it, giving the wand to the young princess.
"Now give it a wave." Sofia lightly shook her wand and it shook one of the shelves, bringing the wand cases tumbling down. Sofia stared at the wand in shock. The guy looked at her and blankly said, "Apparently not this one." He then took out another case of wand and gave it to Sofia, "Perhaps this."
Sofia took the wand and waved it gently but it smashed the flower vase on her left.
"No no no no," Ollivanders said," Definitely not." Sofia set this wand down and looked back at her siblings who were staring at her in shock and she gave them an apprehensive look. Soon, Ollivanders came back with another wand and gave it to her.
As soon as her hand touched the wand, Sofia felt a sudden sense of warmth flow through her body. Ollivanders looked around blankly and stated, "Curious, very curious." Sofia looked at him, taken aback, "S-sorry, but what do you mean by Curious ?"
Ollivanders said to her, "I remember every single wand I ever sold, Miss Warren. It just happens that the pheonix whose tail feathers reside in your wand, gave another feather just like its own. It is extremely intriguing that you should be destined for this wand when it's brother gave you that scar."
Sofia asked, "And what exactly happened to the owner of that wand ?"
The man lowered his voice to a whisper, "We do not speak of him. But noone knows for sure. The wand chooses the wizard Miss Warren, and not the other way round."
He then walked away after Sofia paid for the wand. Later when they walked out, Hagrid walked towards them. "Ah, here yeh are. Well Sofia, I got yeh a little something," he then showed a cage in his hand and inside it was a snowy owl, "Happy Birthday, Sofia."
Sofia looked at the owl, "Wow!"
After a while, Sofia and her siblings were walking back towards the castle of Enchancia. All three of them looked extremely hyped and excited because of all the unique things they saw today. Sofia jereelf didn't know that before she knows it, she would be aboard the Hogwarts train within exactly five weeks!!
Chapter 4: The Amulet
Chapter Text
Ever since her return from diagon alley, Sofia had been on pins and needles on when 1st September will come. Every time the thought of Hogwarts would come in her head, the first thing she would want to see again is the acceptance letter. She also remembered that she hadn't told any of her friends that she is a witch on her way to Hogwarts.
It was one fine cloudy evening. Sofia was sitting at her window-seat, looking outside the window. ‘Should I tell them I'm a witch, who is famous in the Wizarding world?’ She thought, ‘Maybe I should tell them, because if they find out otherwise, there might be a chance they won't be happy that I kept it hidden.’
In times like these, Sofia would do what any other kid would do. So she went looking for her mother, who was in the sitting room, reading.
“Hi mom,” Sofia asked, “Can I talk to you for a moment, please ?” Her mother looked up and smiled, “Of course honey, that's what mothers are for.” Sofia sat in front of her and said, “So as you know, I am to go to Hogwarts in about three weeks and I was just wondering if I could tell any of my friends about it. What do you think I should do ?”
Miranda looked at her soberly and said, “Sofia, I don't think you should tell anyone because people have already been prejudiced against the whole population of magical people. If you tell your friends, they might tell others and soon everyone will know. I don't think many people will be happy about the idea of having a witch as their princess.”
Sofia looked at her mother for a moment before saying, “I guess you're right. Ok mom, as per your words, my side of being a witch is going to stay hidden from the whole world.” Her mother patted her head and said, “That's my girl. I have always been extremely proud of you for being such an obedient daughter, who always puts others before herself. But Sofia, I can also tell that something else is on your mind.”
Sofia's expression changed slightly. She looked at her mother and slowly said, “It's just that… I've been thinking if the time has come for me to take my amulet off. I mean, the amulet glows and I can't let people in the Wizarding world find out about its powers as it's too dangerous and the amulet does give me the power of shape-shifting. I can't let that be seen by someone there. Finally, the amulet doesn't summon any more princesses to help me when I'm in trouble, so that's why I should take it off for now and let it stay here until my return.”
Miranda nodded in understanding. “I understand, dear. You know, I think you should talk to your father about this because he is the one who gave you the amulet in the first place."
Sofia nodded. “Okay then”, she then looked at the clock, “Oh! I should go, we have dinner in an hour and I'll just take some rest. Bye.” Her mother waved and Sofia skipped off to her room. As soon as she got inside, she closed the door and ran towards the mirror. She saw herself, all accessorized and wearing the amulet. She narrowed her eyes on her reflection and imagined herself without the necklace. The thought made her feel uncomfortable, not because she thought she looked ugly without it, but because she hadn't seen herself without the necklace since she first came to the castle.
She could still remember it - how she felt insecure looking at her room and ran to her mother's room, seeking a peace of mind. On her way, she saw the mirror and herself without the necklace, and then along with getting peace, she also got her most priceless possession ever.
That night, Sofia talked with her father at the dinner table and he agreed, understanding that his daughter had a point with what she was saying (she always did). Sofia was very happy about this. Hence, that night, before going to bed, she went to her parents room to find her father there, waiting for her.
She went to him and said, “Dad, it has truly been a wonderful experience wearing this amulet. I hope I can wear it at the earliest when I come back from Hogwarts.” Her dad smiled proudly and replied, “I hope so too and until then, it will be waiting patiently.”
The two wished each other good night and Sofia walked back to her room. She then crossed the day on the calendar. She set her alarm of 7 a.m. on the clock and drifted off to sleep, coming one more step closer to her big day. Anyone could tell that she couldn't wait.
Chapter 5: Platform 9 and 3/4

Sofia has begun her journey of going to Hogwarts.
(I actually forgot to add this in the beginning but they have cars invented in place of the carriages.)
Chapter Text
It felt like the next three weeks just came and went in seconds. It was the night before September the 1st. Through these weeks, Sofia would mainly go by her daily routine. She had decided not to tell any of her firsnds that she is going to study at Hogwarts and that she is a witch.
She would usually just talk with her owl. She named her Misty, a name she had heard in a series. It was 10:00 p.m. at night. Sofia was sitting in her room, at her window seat, polishing her wand, while humming a tune.
Not far away from her, near her study table, was her suitcase. It was packed with all the necessary things mainly her spare robes, t-shirts and her trousers. A few skirts, undergarments and her shoes.
Even though she looked pretty calm, she was having a lot of things going through her head.
'Oh man, I sure hope I don't have a tough first day....' she thought, 'I wonder if I'll make any friends.'
Sofia didn't really have good things happening to her on her first day. She would often get flashbacks of how her siblings pranked her on her first day. She had forgiven them completely. She did not hold any grudges whatsoever, against them.
She put her wand down and patted her back. 'Its okay, everything will be fine and if you don't make any friends at first, you always have Hagrid to talk to. He's a good guy and you also have letters to write to your friends and your family.'
She quickly changed into her nightgown and lay down on her bed. She couldn't stop thinking about how her first day would go. She couldn't exactly make out whether it was her fear or her anxiety. As she thought about it, her eyelids grew heavy and she fell asleep.
----
*Ringgggggg*
Sofia woke up with a start. She looked around the room and them landed her eyes on the alarm clock, of which she forgot to change. She looked at time.
8:00 a.m.
Wow, she has three hours. She knew that Baileywick will be here soon so she quickly got up, brushed her hair, and took a shower.
She then wore black track pants and a purple crop top. She tied her hair into two pigtails and wore a digital watch on her wrist.
There was a soft knock at the door. "Come in." Sofia said softly. The door opened to reveal Baileywick. "Princess Sofia, wake up- oh, I see you're ready now come downstairs for breakfast."
"I'm on my way, Baileywick." Sofia said and she walked out of her room and walked down the stairs. As she walked through the corridors, some of the servants were murmuring to each other.
"Oh my, it's the princess. You know, she's actually a witch."
" Yeah, she also has a deadly scar on her forehead."
"Wow, that is actually fascinating."
"I wonder if she's okay."
Sofia just ignored them and continued to walk to the dining room. She walked in and her mother and father were already sitting there.
"Good morning," Sofia said, "How are you both doing this morning ?"
Miranda looked at her and said, "You know for a moment, I thought that you wouldn't call us your parents." Sofia smiled and said, "Mom, both of you adopted me and that makes me your daughter. Real or not, the paperwork you did on this does not lie."
Dad said, "That's true." By this time, James and Amber had come. James was wearing a Green t-shirt and navy blue jeans and Amber wore an off-shoulder red shirt and a black skirt.
"Whoa guys, I love your styles," Sofia said. "Thank you, Sofia, "Amber said, "You look pretty good yourself." Sofia smiled and Amber sat infront of her with James on her left.
Through the whole meal, the both of them couldn't stop talking about Sofia going away for such a long time.
"Amber calm down, I'm going to come back for holidays, you know." Sofia said.
"We do Sof," James said, "But you've never been away for so long from us. What do we tell our friends if they ask about you ?"
Sofia shrugged. "I don't know, just tell them I'm on a protector mission." James nodded.
It was 10:30, the moment Sofia was eagerly waiting for. They hopped into their car and all five of them drove through the roads.
After a few minutes of silence, James said, "Sofia, can I see your ticket?"
Sofia dug into her pocket and took her ticket out. "Platform 9 and 3/4 ? I've never heard of such a platform. Is that really there ?"
"Maybe it is," Sofia said, "We'll figure it out when we get there."
They soon reached the station. The whole station area was crowded with people running up and down the street. Sofia walked ahead dragging her trolley which was carrying her suitcase and Misty's cage while her family trailed behind her.
"Now I am absolutely sure that this platform is around here somewhere." Sofia said, though she didn't know where she was going and how could she?
They continued walking till they stopped at one place, thinking about what to do.
"God, this is such a waste of time," Roland said annoyed, "I tell you all, this is just nonsense. I don't really think there is a platform like this or a school like this."
Sofia tried to reason. "But dad-"
"I hate to agree with him Sofia." Miranda said sadly." Sofia sighed and as her family took a step to walk away from the station, Sofia heard a woman behind her. It seemed like she was grumbling about something.
"Nothing new, packed with muggles, as always..." Whoa, what ?
"Muggles? Did I hear that right?" Sofia muttered .She motioned her family to wait and walked in that direction, following the family.
There were five children, mainly three boys and two girls. They had dark red hair and freckles. The youngest girl looked like she was too young to go and didn't have a trunk. So it seemed like she was not going. The woman, who looked like their mother, stood in front of them and said, "Alright now, the train leaves in exactly 15 minutes. Get in line, kids. Alright Daniel, you go first."
A boy who looked like he was the oldest, came forward and stood in front of the platform. Sofia and her family looked on, confused. The boy ran towards the wall. Sofia thought he was crazy, just casually running towards a wall. As soon as his head was going to hit the wall, he just disappeared within it.
The woman then turned to the other two. "David, you next." The other boy who looked just like him, said, "He's not David, I am David." The first boy said, "And you say your our mother, lady." The woman scoffed, "Oh I'm sorry Martin." The boy walked ahead and said, "Just kidding, I'm David."
"Oh yes, I knew that," the woman said as his twin followed him, "I know you both very well."
Sofia, Amber and James looked at the scene in shock
Sofia knew that she had to ask them how to get on to the platform. It was her only way to know. She looked at her parents and said, "I'm asking them about how to get on to the platform. You guys, stay close by." They all nodded and Sofia walked forward.
"Excuse me," she said. The woman along with her two daughters, turned around. "Could you please tell me how to.."
"How to get onto he platform? Oh sure, not to worry dear, is it your first time going to Hogwarts ?" Sofia nodded, a little intimidated. "Well, Madeline is new too." She pointed to the older girl, who looked Sofia's age. "Now to get into the platform, you have to walk to the wall between platforms 9 and 10. You may run if your nervous."
Sofia nodded. She thanked the woman and stood in front of the wall. Amber ran to her and hugged her from behind.
"Okay Amber, I'll miss you too. I have to go now." Sofia said.
James said, "I'm going to be honest Sof, things are going to be different without you."
Sofia said, "I know, but I am going to be writing to you both regularly. See you later."
Sofia then started running towards the wall. There were only three seconds left until she was going to crash. Two seconds until she would hit the wall. She closed her eyes, ready for the walk... It didn't come. What the heck??
Sofia opened her eyes to find a scarlet engine which had a black tender and old-fashioned designs. On the stone wall adjacent to her was the sign that read - Platform 9 3/4.
As she walked towards the door, she picked up her suitcase along with Misty's cage and boarded the train. She soon walked through the corridor, searching for an empty compartment.
She soon found one and put her suitcase up and Misty's cage on the floor. She then sat down and leaned her head back.
A lot of things were going through her head again. What is going to happen at Hogwarts? How will the building look like? Will she get bullied here also?
A faint voice broke her out of her haze.

"Excuse me?" She turned her head towards the door. The same girl was standing there. "Do you mind if I sit here ? Everywhere else is full."
Sofia said, "Yeah sure, I don't mind at all." She smiled and sat infront of her. "I believe we met at the station a few minutes ago. I'm Madeline William, by the way."
Sofia said, "Pleasure. I'm Sofia. Sofia Warren." Madeline's eyes widened. "Are you really? Wow, I didn't recognise you. Although I do say, I thought it was you when you were called by your family back at the station."
Sofia nodded. "That was my brother."
Madeline then asked, "You know, people say some things about you, saying your a princess. Is that true?"
Sofia looked at her, perplexed. She didn't really want to spread the word of her title around. "Uh, yeah I am."
Madeline became pale. "Yikes, I am so sorry, I don't know why I am talking so casually with you, I-"
"It's perfectly alright, Madeline, I believe you shouldn't call me by my title, because not many people know I'm a princess, and if they do, they will start treating me like some kind of VIP. I don't think I really want that. I'm already dealing with the fame."
"You know, you're pretty humble for being a princess. I doubt most people will believe that you actually are one, no offence."
Sofia smirked, "Say that to my family. They won't stand the topic of me being disrespected."
Madeline tried to change the topic. "By the way, I just want to say, I am having a great time talking with you. Seems like I just made my first friend. Call me Maddy, by the way. All my friends call me that."
Sofia smiled and said, "Okay. You know, I kind of think my first day at school is going great so far." Madeline raised her eyebrow, "What do you mean?" Sofia shrugged. "It's just that I remember my first day of a royal school, I was pranked really badly."
Madeline frowned. "What ? By who ? One of the annoying kids?" Sofia shook her head. "No, by my brother. He pranked me into using an enchanted swing which flung me into the fountain."
Madeline looked shocked. "What? Who does that? Is your brother nuts? Did he not care about your safety? What kind of prank is that?"
"Actually he didn't want to do it. My sister made him do it." Madeline tilted her head. "Huh? Bro, your siblings are all fucked up. Like, what is up with them? Their so toxic. Even my brothers won't do that to me."
Sofia said, "Oh really? They bever played a joke on you?" Madeline sighed. "Ok fine, they did. But it was all harmless and victimless. I'll have you know, my mum would go bananas at them if they hurt me."
Sofia then said, "Alright well, the important thing is that they learnt their lesson and they both made up for it in the end."
Just then, a lady passed by their compartment door. She asked, "Anything off the trolley, darlings?" Maddy muttered "I have food with me." Sofia looked at the trolley and thought that this was the right thing to spend her money on.
She took a little bit of everything that caught her eye mainly Bertie Blot's every flavour beans, Pumpkin pastries, bubble gum, sponge cakes, chocolate wands, acid pops and chocolate frogs.
"Woah, okay, so it seems like you're loaded."
"I don't really think it is. Cause I have to live on my parents money which is in the bank."
Sofia shared it with Maddy and the two continued talking. "You know, when they say that it is very flavoured, they mean literally every single flavour. You have your chocolate or strawberry, and there's spinach, chilli and liver. Martin reckons he got a vomit flavoured one once." Sofia gave a disgusted look at what she heard.
Madeline said, "My brothers actually gave me this bracelet before." She showed her wrist on which rested a golden coloured bracelet with white butterflies etched onto it. "Wow, it's beautiful." Sofia said.
"Sadly, there's a crack on it and the golden colour is fading. Mum won't let me get it fixed and I don't know any repairing spells. Although David had given me a spell to make it yellow. You want to see?"
Sofia nodded. Maddy took out her wand and was about to chant the spell when the door of the compartment slid open. A boy walked in. He was already wearing his robes. He had auburn hair and had a bit of a bossy voice.
"Has anyone seen a cat? A girl named Katie has lost hers." Maddy said, "No, sorry."
But the boy was looking at her wand. "Oh, doing magic, are you? Let's see then."
Maddy said, "Uh, okay.." she then chanted her spell :-
'Sunshine, Daisies, Butter, mellow,
Turn this broken bracelet yellow.'
But the bracelet just remained that way, white and cracked.
"Are you sure that spell was real?" The boy said, in a cocky way, "Well, even if it was real, I can tell it's not a good one. Obviously, I have tested a few spells myself, for practice, but they've all worked for me."
He then sat down in front of them and pointed his wand towards the bracelet. "Reparo"
In a flash, the crack on the bracelet disappeared and it became golden again.
"That's better, isn't it?" Maddy looked at Sofia and back at the boy, "Err yeah, thanks."
The boy looked at Sofia and examined her for a minute.
"Are you Sofia Warren?"
Sofia looked at him surprised. "Uhm, I am, but how do you know?" The boy shrugged. "Lucky guess," he then turned to Maddy, "And, you are?" Maddy said, "Madeline William."
"Pleasure, I'm Charlie Miller. You girls better change into your robes. We'll be arriving soon. See you later."
He got up and walked out.
"I don't know about you, but I feel like I am going to stay away from that guy the whole year. He's actually creeping me out. I wonder if he's gone loony or something ?" Madeline said, but Sofia was staring at the door.
"Is it just me or does that guy look a lot like me. I mean, he has the same eyes as I do, the same nose, the same skin colour and the same hair colour."
"Sofie, if that guy was related to you, he would for sure have your nice nature and your pure personality, wouldn't he now ?"
Sofia shrugged. "Yeah I guess you're right. I don't know what I start to think sometimes."
"But I actually do agree with him, we should change into our robes." Sofia nodded.
The two took turns going to the bathroom in their compartment and change into their robes. They were black coloured with a long cloak thing that reached till your ankles.
"Gosh, usually mum wouldn't buy new robes and my brothers would just wear second handed ones. My family doesn't really have much money, you know."
Sofia smiled sympathetically. "Hey, that's okay, at least you have your robes." Maddy nodded and the two sat down and talked for a while.
Chapter 7: First day of School
Summary:
Join Sofia and Maddy as they tackle their first day in the Hogwarts castle.
Chapter Text
"We must be getting closer now, I can feel the train moving a little slower." Maddy said. Sofia looked out the window and saw a station coming into view as the train slowly came to a halt.
It was truly a charming and picturesque stop on the train route, surrounded by lush greenery and rugged stone buildings. As the train pulled into the station, the sound of chatter and laughter filled the air. The next moment, the platform was filled wth students, dressed in their Hogwarts robes, eagerly awaiting their first glimpse of the castle.
Sofia and Maddy got down from the train and took a good look at the new world they were in. The station itself was a quaint and rustic affair, with wooden beams and stone walls, adorned with ivy and flowers. The sign above the station read "Hogsmeade Station" in bold letters, and the platform was lined with old-fashioned lanterns, that cast a warm, golden glow.
It truly felt like magic and reality blended seamlessly together.
"Right then, firs' years. This way please, c'mon now, follow me."
Sofia turned her head to see Hagrid, standing there, holding a lantern and calling everyone towards him. All the students followed him towards the lake, which had boats big enough to fit two to three people. She and Maddy got on to one of the boats.
"How do we move them without oars- whoa!" Maddy said, but the boat started moving ahead on its own. "Man, this just be getting more and more cool!" Sofia exclaimed as they kept moving ahead.
Soon after, all the students were inside the castle. As they walked up the stairs, Sofia couldn't help but feel a shiver run down her spine. She had only dreamt of this place until now, when she was finally here.
The doors to the great hall opened and the students were ushured inside. The room was filled with four long tables, with students sitting, and infront of them, there were the teachers tables.
At the front of the hall, stood a woman wearing a green coloured cloak, and a hat with a feather in it. She introduced herself as Professor Mcgonagall, the transfiguration teacher.
She said, "Welcome to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. All of you first years, are going to take your first steps to an unforgettable journey. At this school, you will be sorted into one of the four houses. They are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin. Now these houses will be your family while you are here. Your triumphs will earn you points, but you will lose points if you break any rules. These points are essential as at the end of the year, the house with the most points is awarded the house cup, a big honour for the house. The sorting ceremony will begin soon."
Sofia and Maddy waited for a while.
"So.. it is true, what they saying on the train," the girls turned towards a girl who had blond hair, olive skin and brown eyes, "Sofia Warren has come to Hogwarts." There was a murmur among the students, as Sofia looked at the girl, confused. "I see we meet at last. I'm Anne," She walked infront of Sofia, "Sydney Anne." Her two friends walked forward and stopped behind her, One of them said, "I'm Amelia Jane and that's Alyssa Tedane."
Maddy smirked. Anne looked at her disgruntled. "You think my name's funny, do you ? Well, have you looked at yourself? Second hand robes, freckles, you must be a William," she turned to Sofia and said, "You will soon find out that some families here are better than others, young princess. You don't want to go messing with the wrong sort, and you won't, if you join me." She held out her hand to shake with Sofia, but Sofia did not take it.
"I think I can tell which sort is the wrong one for myself, thank you very much. And for your information, I don't think looking down on other families makes you any better. Throw your ego while you can." She said.
Anne looked at her with an annoyed look and walked away, muttering, "Pure Hufflepuff coded."
Professor Mcgonagall came back, bringing a stool and an old hat infront of the students. She took out a long parchment.
"Now when I call your name, you will sit on the stool, I shall place the sorting hat on your head, and you will be sorted into your houses."
Thus did the sorting ceremony commence. One by one, each student was called forward and was getting sorted into their respective houses. Maddy was placed in Gryffindor and her brothers were cheering for her. After a while, finally-
"Warren, Sofia." Mcgonagall said.
As Sofia stepped forward, there were whispers all around the great hall.
"Did she say Warren ? As in the Sofia Warren"
"Woah, do you guys know she is actually a Princess? Like, she is royal."
Sofia sat down and Mcgonagall placed the sorting hat on her head.
"Hmm, why their is plenty of courage in this one," a voice said in her mind, "Not corrupt, there's a lot of talent, oh and a lot of generosity. Why, there's talents from all four houses, but one of them is the strongest, so I guess, you should be....... GRYFFINDOR!!"
The table on the farthest left of Sofia cheered loudly. Apparently, she has got the loudest cheering yet. She got up and walked towards the table, and sat beside Maddy.
Daniel shook her hand vigorously while David jokingly kissed her hand, earning a light punch from Maddy, making Sofia laugh. She could see that Maddy was grossed out by her brothers flirting with girls, especially her new best friend.
After the rest of the students had been sorted, the headmaster got up from his chair and said, "Welcome, welcome to another year at Hogwarts. Now before we begin our excellent feast, I would like to say a few words. The first years must know that that dark forest in the school grounds is strictly out of bounds to everyone. Also, out caretaker, Argus Finch, has asked me to remind you all that the third floor corridor on the farthest right is forbidden to all who do not wish to die a most painful death."
He then paused for a while and said, "Now then I suppose, let the feast begin." Suddenly, a lot of delicious food appeared on the empty plates and everyone started eating. There was all kinds of food, half of which Sofia had never eaten in her entire life. Sofia spent the rest of the feast talking with Maddy about the rest of their year.
After the feast, everyone followed the prefects of their houses. Daniel took the first years to the Gryffindor Tower and the entrance of the common room.
"Now to enter every common room, we have to know the password so you all better remember them." He instructed.
The lady who was sitting in the portrait of the entrance asked, "Password.?" Daniel said, "Lepidus Semor." The door opened to reveal the common room. It was all red and golden coloured while the tables and chairs were brown.
"So this is your common rooms were you can spend your freetime and over her are your dormitories. Boys' dormitories on the right, Girls dormitories on the left. That's it."
Sofia and Maddy walked up to the girls dorm rooms and saw that there were many four poster beds and adjacent to each bed were the trunks and suitcases of the particular student. It was late, Sofia and Maddy talked for a while before finally calling it a day.
Chapter 8: First look at the books
Summary:
Join Sofia and her friends as they navigate their first day at Hogwarts.
Chapter Text
Sofia yawned, rubbing the sleep from her eyes. It was her first day at Hogwarts, and she was excited to start her journey as a young witch. She was sitting in her cozy dormitory, getting dressed in her Hogwarts robes.
Sofia walked over to the bed next to her and shouted, "Come on, Maddy! Let's go!" Sofia called out to her best friend, who was busy trying to tame her curly hair.
Maddy, whose full name was Madeline, was a bright student and a quick wit. She was also Sofia's best friend, and the two of them had been inseparable since they were here.
"I'm coming, I'm coming!" Maddy replied, finally managing to tame her hair into a ponytail. "You know, I'm so nervous about today. What if we don't make any friends?"
Sofia rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "We'll be fine, Mads. We're going to make tons of friends and have an amazing time. Besides, we've already got each other and Wynter."
Wynter was a first year boy they had met on the day of the start of term banquet. He had white hair, light skin and brown eyes. He was a little shy and awkward, but as far as Sofia knew, he was a really sweet guy.
The two friends made their way down to the Great Hall for breakfast, where they joined the other first years. The hall was filled with chatter and the smell of bacon and eggs.
As they ate, they chatted about their expectations for the year.
Sofia was excited to learn more about magic and make new friends. Maddy was looking forward to Quidditch tryouts and proving herself as a talented witch.
After breakfast, they headed to their first class, Charms. Professor Flitwick, their teacher, was a tiny, energetic wizard. With a big welcoming smile, he greeted all the first year students in the class and had to stand on a stool to reach the height of the table.
"Welcome, first years!" he said, his voice booming across the room. "Today, we're going to learn the Levitation Charm, the ability to make objects fly. It's a simple spell, but it requires focus and control. I hope all of you have your feathers."
Sofia and Maddy listened intently as Professor Flitwick demonstrated the spell. "Now chanting the spell is the easy but but the most important thing to do is to focus on your wand waving. Now ,to cast the spell, you just have to swish and flick the wand on to your feathers and say Wingardium Leviosa."
Then, it was their turn to try.
"Wingardium Leviosa!" Sofia chanted, waving her wand. To her delight, a feather did a light float in the air.
Maddy, on the other hand, had a bit more trouble. Her feather shot up to the ceiling and got stuck.
The two friends giggled and helped each other out, and before long, they were both levitating feathers with ease.
As the day went on, they had classes in Transfiguration, where Professor Mcgonagall wasn't as cheerful as Flickwick was. She greeted all the students with a severe look and spoke in a tone no less than a military commander. Sofia very well knew how one sounds so she took no time to identify.
Potions class was a bit absurd for Sofia as Professor Snape kept looking at her every now and then. He had a severe look on his face, which would sometimes soften when he looked at Sofia, something she couldn't understand why, but she just chose to brush it off as it wasn't that strange to her but Maddy , who was sitting beside her, was confused because of this strange behaviour.
As they were walking out, Maddy decided to gossip.
"My brothers say that Snape is a nasty asshole who favours his house all the time, never showing sympathy to anyone. So why in the world would he be soft towards you?"
"Maddy, Sofia has not done anything wrong," Wynter said with an obvious expression, "Why would Snape argue with her?" Maddy shrugged. Sofia said, "I just hope he doesn't pick on me or anything. That guy is way too mysterious and cold."
Later, at lunchtime, Sofia, Maddy, and Wynter sat together in the Great Hall, chatting about their morning classes.
"I'm so glad we're in the same year," Sofia said, smiling at her friends. "I don't think I could have handled Hogwarts without you two."
Maddy grinned. "We're stuck together, Sofia. Through thick and thin."
Wynter chuckled. "And who knows? Maybe we'll even start a club or two."
The three friends laughed and continued their conversation, enjoying each other's company as they navigated their first day at Hogwarts.
Chapter 9: New friends
Chapter Text
Sofia, Wynter and Maddy were walking down the stairs, still buzzing from their first day of Hogwarts
Just then, a boy with dark brown hair walked past them. He was muttering to himself, clutching a few book in his hand.
"Hey, isn't that the kid who we met on the train?" Maddy asked, nodding towards the boy.
Sofia followed her gaze and nodded. "Yeah, I think it is. Poor guy, he was sitting all alone at the feast. He looks lost." Maddy looked at her with a weirded look. "Are you actually sympathizing with him? That guy made fun of us as well as a first impression of his bossy nature."
Sofia said, "I know but he doesn't have anyone to talk to. I can't even imagine going through an entire year, surrounded by people who don't even talk to you."
As they watched, the boy tripped on the stairs and his books went flying. The whole Great Hall fell silent as everyone stared at him, some sniggering while some shocked.
Sofia jumped up to help him, with Maddy and Wynter following close behind. They gathered up the books and handed them back to the boy, who looked mortified.
"Are you okay?" Sofia asked. Charlie nodded. "Thanks," he muttered, his face bright red. Sofia smiled, "It's alright, I did exactly what you did on my first day of School. No big deal."
Charlie looked relieved. "Thanks again. I might have shown up a little irritated to you earlier. I guess I'm just a bit of a clumsy idiot who did not like walking among random people."
Wynter clapped him on the back. "Don't worry, mate. We've all been there. Well, maybe not exactly there, but you know what I mean."
Sofia took her hand out to shake his. "No hard feelings?" Charlie nodded and took it.
Just then, the bell rang, marking the time for herbology class. The four of them walked off to their first class, ready to take on the rest of the day.
Chapter 10: Experience with Anne
Summary:
A little look at transfiguration before the flying lesson.
Chapter Text
Guys!! I got bored of writing about their first year so the next few chapters are going to be the last of their first year and then I’m going to make changes in the next plot so it will end fast.
I was just going to put chapters of their 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th year only.
And just a spoiler, three more OC’s are going to come and a gay couple (two boys) is going to be formed later from their third year.
Enjoyyyy !!
A few weeks had passed as Sofia, Maddy, Charlie and Wynter had been staying at Hogwarts. By keeping her promise, Sofia wrote to her siblings every week, letting them know she was okay and telling them that the wizarding world is nothing like they picture it to be at all. Throughout the day, they would be in classes and then chill in the common room. Staying away from the castle got Sofia to became a little casual because she could now assure herself that no one was going to judge her for slouching a little or spreading her feet however she wanted.
The gowns, tiaras and jewels had gone now. She would wear pants and shirts.
They would spend the day in classes and then hang out in the common room.
However, today’s atmosphere felt slightly different. There was a new hype among the first years.
“Oh right, I almost forgot,” Maddy said as she and Sofia were walking in the hallway, “Today’s our first flying lesson.” Sofia gasped, “Wow, I can ‘t believes we’re going to learn how to fly on a literal broomstick.”
“Well, that is for later. Before that, we have transfiguration class, where I do not want to go. Can you even imagine how many looks McGonagall gives to everyone every five minutes? Jesus Christ, that woman is the definition of suspicious.”
Sofia laughed, “Mads, she ‘s still our teacher. Don’t say things like that.”
As their on their way to the ground floor, they run into Charlie and Wynter and the four of them go to transfiguration together.
The Transfiguration classroom was already quiet when Sofia and her friends arrived. Rows of desks faced the front, where a single cat sat perfectly still on the teacher’s desk, causing some students to think she was frozen in one place.
Charlie paused. “Why is there always something strange about these classrooms?”
“That’s a cat, Charlie. It’s just Professor McGonagall.” Wynter said flatly.
“Exactly, so sit down.” Maddy said.
They took their seats and sat in silence for aa few moments, waiting. The bell hadn’t even finished ringing when the cat jumped down.
And transformed. In its place, Professor Minerva McGonagall stood, stern, silent and serious.
The entire class went silent.
Charlie’s jaw dropped. “I’m never getting used to that.”
Professor McGonagall surveyed them sharply.
“Transfiguration as I had said in the earlier classes,” she began, “is some of the most complicated and dangerous magic you will learn at Hogwarts.”
No one moved.
“Anyone messing around in my class,” she continued, “will leave and not come back. You have been warned and I will not repeat myself. I may not follow leniency, but I will be fair with every single one of you.”
Sydney Anne shifted slightly but said nothing.
Professor McGonagall flicked her wand.
The desk transformed into a pig.
A few students gasped.
She flicked her wand again and it turned back into a desk.
Sofia stared, completely focused.
“Today,” Professor McGonagall said, “you will be doing something simple.”
She placed a matchstick on each desk. “You will attempt to turn this matchstick into a needle.”
Charlie leaned toward Sofia. “Simple, she says.”
“Quiet,” Wynter muttered. Sofia picked up her wand. She remembered the exact movement and the exact words.
She tapped the matchstick. Nothing happened, and the others were nothing different. Maddy’s matchstick bent slightly—but didn’t change. Charlie ‘s remained stubbornly wooden.
Anne ‘s Turned slightly silver at one end.
Professor McGonagall stopped beside her. “Not bad, Miss Anne,” she said. “But precision matters.”
Sydney smirked faintly. Determined, Sofia tightened her grip and tried again. This time, she focused harder and remained careful in every movement.
Tap-
And for a moment— Nothing happened.
The next second—
The tip of the matchstick sharpened. It sharpened a little, but it definitely did. Sofia leaned closer. It had changed.
Professor McGonagall appeared beside her. She picked it up, examining it closely.
“Hmm.”
Sofia held her breath.
“A start, Miss Warren,” she said. “Five points.”
Charlie stared. “Five points?!”
Wynter raised an eyebrow. “Not bad,” he said, “Well done, Sof.”
Sydney Anne glanced over.
And this time, she didn’t look amused.
As they walked out of the class, Sofia and her friends were just going to the common room to keep their books away, when Anne stood in their way, blocking their path.
“Well, so you think that by dong well in the transfiguration class, you ‘re good at everything?”
“The hell!?” Sofia said, “What is wrong with you? When did I say that?”
“Don’t ask me! You were giving me looks across the classroom.”
“Are you serious? You’re telling me that?”
“You know what, guys?” Maddy interrupted, “We’re getting late now, separate out, both of you.”
And the four of them walked away, leaving Anne with Jane and Tedane, looking at them angrily.
Chapter 11: Lessons, doubts and teams
Chapter Text
The first flying lesson took place on a clear, breezy morning. The grass stretched wide and empty, and a line of old school brooms lay neatly on the ground.
Sofia stood beside Maddy, clutching her robes just a little tighter than usual. She tried not to look nervous but she definitely was. Can you blame her? She had rode broomsticks with Lucinda but at that time, she had a true witch with her who had experience in riding the broomstick.
Charlie, on her other side, looked thrilled. “I’ve been waiting for this all week,” he whispered to her and she smiled a little. Wynter folded his arms. “Just don’t fall off. That’s all I’m asking.”
Madam Hooch arrived sharply, her yellow eyes sweeping over the group. “Good afternoon, children and welcome to your first flying lesson. Well? What are you all waiting for? Everyone, stand to the left side of your broom. Quickly.”
Sofia stepped forward. The broom in front of her was old and slightly crooked.
“Stick out your right hand over your broom,” Madam Hooch instructed, “and say Up!”
“Up!” shouted the class.
All around her, brooms jumped into hands.
Sofias didn’t move.
She frowned. “Up!” she tried again.
This time, the broom rolled slightly, then smacked into her hand. Not graceful—but it worked.
Maddy gave her a small, encouraging smile. “You got it,” she then said to her broom, “Up!” and it came up and hit her nose. A few students laughed, even Sofia. “Shut up, Sofia.”
Charlie’s broom had flown straight into his hand on the first try. Wynter’s had too, though he looked unimpressed.
From across the line came a sharp laugh.
Anne was twirling her broom effortlessly, clearly enjoying the attention. “Honestly, it’s not that hard,” she said loudly, “Just some people are not cursed with powers.”
Sofia ignored her, though she was pissed off with her show-off attitude.
Madam Hooch walked down the line, correcting grips and posture. When she reached Sofia, she adjusted her hands slightly.
“Firm, Miss Warren. You don’t want it slipping.”
Sofia nodded.
“Mount your brooms,” Madam Hooch said. “And mind you don’t slide off the end.”
Sofia climbed on, heart pounding. The broom wobbled slightly beneath her.
“On my whistle, you will kick off from the ground—hard. Keep your brooms steady, rise a few feet, hover for a moment, then lean forward slightly and come straight back down. Three, two, one-”
She and the other students kicked off.
For a moment—just a moment—she was flying.
The ground dipped beneath her, the wind brushing her face. It felt strange and incredible all at once—
Then a shout rang out.
Neville Longbottom lost control, shooting upward before panicking.
“Mr. Longbottom, where do you think you’re going? Come back down this instant!” Madam Hooch yelled. But it was too late. He fell from his broom, hitting the ground with a sickening thud.
Gasps filled the air. Sofia’s broom jerked, and she quickly lowered herself back down, heart racing.
Madam Hooch rushed over. “Broken wrist,” she muttered.
She turned sharply to the class. “Everyone stay where you are while I take Mr. Longbottom to the hospital wing. If I see a single broom in the air, the student riding it will be out of Hogwarts before they can say ‘Quidditch’.”
As she escorted the injured student away, the field fell into uneasy silence.
After a few minutes, Anne stepped forward.
“Did you see that?” she said, spotting something in the grass. She bent down and picked up a small object. It was Neville’s Remembrall.
She tossed it lightly into the air, catching it again. “Shame, really. If the fatty gave this a squeeze, he will remember how high he fell from the sky.”
“Give that back, Anne, it doesn’t belong to you,” Sofia said, stepping forward before she could stop herself.
Sydney smirked. “Why? Found it, didn’t I? But you’re right, I will leave it somewhere for long bottom to find.”
Maddy tugged lightly at Sofia’s sleeve. “Sofia—don’t.”
But Sofia didn’t move. Anne mounted her broom in one smooth motion. “If you want it, come and get it.” She kicked off, rising into the air. For a second, Sofia hesitated.
Then, without thinking, she grabbed her broom and pushed off the ground.
“Sofia!” Wynter called.
But Sofia was already in the air. The wind rushed louder this time, stronger. Her broom wobbled—but she leaned forward, gripping tight.
Sydney was higher, circling lazily.
“Careful,” she called down. “Wouldn’t want you falling off.”
Sofia steadied herself. She could do this.
Sydney threw the Remembrall high into the air.
“Catch it if you can!”
Sofia didn’t think, she just moved.
She leaned forward, the broom responding faster now, slicing through the air. The ground blurred beneath her.
The Remembrall dropped. It was falling fast. Sofia stretched out her hand and caught it. She pulled up sharply, breath catching as the broom steadied beneath her.
For a moment, everything was still.
Then the next moment, cheers erupted from below.
Maddy was clapping, Charlie practically jumping, Wynter shaking his head but smiling just a little.
Anne hovered nearby, clearly annoyed.
Sofia landed, her legs slightly shaky but her grip firm around the Remembrall.
“Miss Warren!”
Everything went silent.
Sofia turned slowly to see Professor McGonagall striding toward her, her expression severe, her square glasses glinting in the sunlight.
Sofia’s stomach dropped.
She knew that look.
Sydney Anne smirked from a short distance away.
“Well,” she muttered under her breath, “you’re in trouble now.”
Maddy looked worried. Charlie stopped cheering instantly. Wynter crossed her arms, watching closely.
Professor McGonagall stopped in front of Sofia.
“Come with me.”
Sofia opened her mouth. “But Professor, I—”
“Now.”
Charlie tried to stop them. “It wasn’t her fault, Professor-”
“Silence.”
There was no arguing.
Sofia handed the Remembrall back to Maddy, who took it carefully, and followed Professor McGonagall across the grounds.
Her mind raced.
She hadn’t meant to break the rules. She hadn’t even thought—she’d just reacted.
They walked in silence through the castle corridors. Students turned to stare as they passed.
Sofia kept her eyes forward.
Finally, Professor McGonagall stopped outside a classroom and pushed the door open.
“Excuse me, Professor Quirell, could I borrow Wood for a moment?”
Wood? Was Wood a cane she was going to use on her?
But no, Wood was a student, much older than Sofia. Professor McGonagall placed a firm hand on Sofia’s shoulder and nudged her slightly forward.
“Miss Warren, this is Oliver Wood,” she said, her voice brisk but unmistakably pleased, “Wood, I’ve found you a Seeker.”
Wood blinked. “A… what, Professor?”
“A Seeker,” Professor McGonagall repeated. “This is Miss Warren. She’s a first year.”
Wood stared at Sofia as she stared back.
“A first year?” he said, clearly surprised.
Professor McGonagall’s lips thinned slightly. “I trust you saw nothing of her just now?”
“No, Professor—”
“She caught a falling Remembrall in midair after a fifty-foot dive,” Professor McGonagall said crisply. “Didn’t even scratch herself.”
Wood’s expression changed instantly. He looked at Sofia, impressed.
“Did she really?”
Sofia shifted slightly, unsure what to say.
Professor McGonagall straightened.
“A Seeker,” she continued, “is precisely what we need. I shall speak to Professor Dumbledore. Miss Warren, you will need a broom.”
Wood nodded quickly. “Yes, Professor!”
Professor McGonagall turned back to Sofia.
“You will report to Wood this evening for practice,” she said. “And Miss Warren-”
Sofia braced herself.
“…do try not to break any more school rules before then.”
There was the faintest hint of approval in her voice. Then she turned and swept away.
When Sofia returned to the grounds, the lesson had ended.
Maddy, Charlie, and Wynter rushed toward her immediately.
“Well?” Charlie asked. “Are you expelled?”
“You’re not expelled,” Wynter said flatly. “If you were, you’d already be gone.”
Maddy looked anxious. “What happened?”
Sofia hesitated.
Then…. “I’m on the Quidditch team.”
Silence.
Charlie’s jaw dropped.
Maddy blinked. “You—what?”
Wynter raised an eyebrow. “Already?”
“But first years never make the team,” Charlie said, “You must be the youngest quidditch player in-”
“A century,” Sofia finished, “Wood told me.”
As they were talking, Anne was standing a short distance away, her expression was dark. Sofia met her gaze. This wasn’t over. Not even close.
-----
The next day, at breakfast, Sofia and her friends were eating in the great hall as usual, when suddenly, misty flew in, carrying something big. Sofia saw her and when she dropped it, Sofia caught it, amazed.
“Isn’t it a bit early for mail, guys?” Charlie asked.
“Probably Amber sending me a giant makeup brush.” Sofia said.
The four of them unwrapped the package and found a broomstick.
“Woah,” Sofia said, “I got a broomstick.”
Maddy gasped, “That’s not just a broomstick Sofia, it’s a Nimbus 2000, the fastest broomstick model yet.” Sofia was confused, and then she saw McGonagall, petting Misty and giving her (Sofia) a smile.
Sofia understood and smiled back.
---
The sky was turning gold when Sofia reached the Quidditch pitch.
She hesitated at the entrance.
The stands towered overhead, empty and quiet. The hoops stood tall at either end, and a faint breeze stirred the grass below.
“Warren!”
Sofia turned.
Oliver Wood was jogging toward her; a crate tucked under his arm.
“Good, you’re here,” he said briskly. “Come on—we’ve got a lot to cover.”
He then began teaching her the rules of the game.
“Quidditch is easy enough to understand. Each team has two beaters, three Chasers, one keeper and the seeker.”
Four balls rose into the air.
Sofia stepped back slightly.
“Don’t worry,” Wood said. “They’re not all trying to kill you. Just two of them.”
He pointed first to a bright red ball.
“That’s the Quaffle. The Chasers pass it to each other and try to score by getting it through one of those hoops.” Sofia followed his gesture to the tall goalposts.
“Each goal is worth ten points,” Wood continued. “Simple enough.”
He then gestured upward, where three rings hovered at either end of the pitch.
“Each team has a Keeper, who defends the hoops and prevents the chasers of the opposing team from scoring.” The red ball dropped neatly back into the crate.
Then, two black balls burst upward, flying wildly in opposite directions. Sofia ducked instinctively as one zoomed past her ear and she jumped.
“Bludgers!” Wood said loudly, grabbing one and forcing it back down. “Nasty things. They try to knock players off their brooms.”
“Try to?” Sofia repeated.
Wood gave her a look. “They succeed, if you’re not careful.”
He shoved the Bludger back into the crate, forcing the lid shut briefly before reopening it.
“Two Beaters per team,” he went on, “whose job is to hit those away from their teammates—and ideally toward the other team.”
Sofia nodded slowly.
“Right,” Wood said, his tone shifting slightly. “Now, your job.”
He reached into the crate again. This time, he pulled out something small. It shimmered in the fading light, tiny wings fluttering rapidly.
“The only thing I want you to worry about is this, the golden snitch.”
Sofia leaned closer.
“That,” Wood said, “is what you’re after.”
He released it.
The Snitch shot upward and vanished almost instantly.
Sofia blinked. “It’s gone.”
“Exactly,” Wood said. “That’s the point.”
He folded his arms.
“Two Seekers,” he continued, “one on each team. No one else cares about the Snitch, except you.”
Sofia kept scanning the sky, as if it might reappear.
“You Catch it,” Wood said, “and you get one hundred and fifty points.”
Sofia turned back to him. “That’s a lot.”
“It is,” he agreed. “And—”
He paused for emphasis.
“—the match ends the moment it’s caught.”
Sofia processed that.
“So… even if we’re losing…”
“We can still win,” Wood finished. “Exactly.”
A flicker of understanding crossed her face.
Wood nodded, satisfied.
“That’s why Seeker is the most important position,” he said firmly.
Sofia hesitated. “No pressure, then.”
Wood didn’t smile.
“None whatsoever.”
Sofia blinked.
Then realized—
He wasn’t joking.
Wood began pacing slightly.
“Your job is to watch,” he said. “You don’t get distracted by Bludgers, or Chasers, or anything else happening in the game.”
Sofia nodded.
“See everything,” he continued, “but focus on one thing.”
“The Snitch,” Sofia said.
“Exactly.”
For a moment, there was only the sound of the wind.
Then, there was a flicker of gold near the stands.
Sofia turned instantly. “There!” she pointed.
Wood followed her gaze and grinned.
“Good,” he said. “You’ve got the eyes for it.”
But the Snitch had vanished again. Sofia didn’t look away this time. She kept scanning.
Waiting.
“Speed helps,” Wood added, watching her. “But it’s not everything.”
Sofia leaned slightly forward on her broom.
“Timing,” Wood said. “Patience.”
Sofia paused.
“And nerve.”
Sofia tightened her grip. The flash of gold didn’t vanish this time. Sofia saw it. It was clear, sharp, real.
“There!” she said, already pushing off the ground.
Her broom surged forward, faster than she expected.
Wind rushed past her face as she leaned low, gripping tightly. Behind her, Oliver Wood shouted something, but she didn’t hear it. She didn’t need to. She could see the Snitch darted toward the stands, zigzagging unpredictably.
Sofia followed it. She adjusted her grip, remembering not to fight the broom but to lean into it.
The broom responded instantly, cutting through the air more smoothly this time.
The Snitch dipped suddenly. Sofia dove after it, pushing her broom down. She thought shewas going too fast and for a split second, she felt doubtful. But she pushed it aside. There was no turning back now. The snitch was in sight. It shot upward again.
Sofia pulled hard, rising after it, her heart pounding. She was closer now.
She could hear the faint whir of its wings
Her fingers stretched forward. The Snitch veered sharply to the left.
Sofia reacted instantly, twisting her broom just in time.
“Steady!” Wood called from below.
Sofia didn’t slow. She knew that this was it. She leaned forward one last time and closed her hand.
For a moment, she wasn’t sure, but then she felt it. The snitch was struggling and fluttering in her hands. Sofia pulled up sharply, hovering midair, her breath unsteady. She opened her hand slightly.
The Golden Snitch fluttered weakly between her fingers.
“I-I” she started, almost laughing. “I caught it!”
Below, Wood was staring up at her. Then his face broke into a wide grin.
“Of course you did!” he shouted. “That was brilliant!”
Sofia let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding. The wind felt different now. She descended slowly, landing a bit unevenly but still upright.
Wood walked toward her quickly.
“Natural Seeker,” he said, shaking his head. “Absolutely natural.”
Sofia looked down at the Snitch in her hand and smiled.
“Okay, that’s enough for today, its getting dark now.”
Sofia nodded and the two of them walked off the pitch.
