i want you to want me

Summary:

Maddie smiled at him, pinching her fingers in front of her face to demonstrate just how small this favor was.

“Which is?”

“Could you also take him out on some dates?”

“Excuse me?”

That is just possibly the last thing Viktor had expected to hear.

“Well you see. I like this girl. Caitlyn Kiramman, you know, daughter of the Kirammans. Well they have this rule that she isn’t allowed to date until Jayce does. I know you need some more equipment for your work, so if you did this eensy little favor for me, I could certainly get your project another sponsor.”

Basically it's Caitvi and Jayvik 10 Things I Hate About You except I put them in University because I don't want to write them as highschoolers.

Chapter 1: Chapter 1 (Vi)

Chapter Text

“Who is that?”
Vi is a week late to start the class. She had some schedule changes and credit issues that ended with her finally getting into an advanced criminology course. At least she has Mylo in this class, who would be more than happy to help catch her up on the important things. Important things like who that beautiful girl with the blue hair was.

“Caitlyn Kiramman,” Mylo answers with a wiggle of his eyebrows, “you interested?”

Caitlyn is up at the front of the class, in an in-depth conversation with the professor. Her hair pulled back in a ponytail, two delicate strands framing her face. Vi watches it slightly sway with the decisive tilts of her head while she speaks. Occasionally her lips slide into a slight smile that reveal a small gap in the front of her teeth. She’s definitely Vi’s type, tall with nice legs, good curves and a dress that hugged her just right, but she’s also… cute.

“She’s hot. Yeah.”

“Well tough luck,” Mylo shrugged and leaned back in his seat, “she’s not allowed to date.”

“What?”
This was an advanced course. Everyone here, except for the occasional overachieving 16 or 17 year old, is a legal adult. What did that mean, she’s not allowed to date.

“Yeah I don’t know. Claggor has some Shakespeare class with her and knows all about it. Come get lunch with us later and you can ask him about it if you’d like.”

Caitlyn slides into her seat in the front row, pulling out a notebook of meticulously taken notes. Vi takes the cue to begin actually paying attention as the professor starts the lecture, but finds herself occasionally dropping her gaze to that girl in the front row.

-

“Oh yeah. We sit next to each other in Shakespeare. She’s really smart, but I don’t think his work really clicks with her to be honest.” Claggor shrugged, taking a bite of his sandwich.

“Yeah yeah Shakespeare whatever. What’s her deal with dating though? Mylo mentioned there being something weird there.”

“Vi has a total crush on her,” Mylo smiled, shoving his shoulder into Vi’s.

“I do not. I haven’t even met her yet. She’s just attractive is all.” Vi let out a small huff.

Claggor rests his sandwich on a napkin, brushing the crumbs off his hand, “yeah, well her mom is a big deal at this school. She supports all kinds of research. There’s this one guy, Jayce Talis, she’s been sponsoring his work here. I guess he’s really close to the family, and she’s got this rule that Caitlyn can’t date unless he does. She follows it because her mom has all kinds of influence on the staff here. I think she’s really trying to stay in her good graces”

“What? So I just have to get some nerd a date and I can take her out?”

Mylo erupts in laughter, “easier said than done Vi. Jayce Talis is totally married to his work. It’s gonna be tough finding someone to catch his attention, not to mention someone who’s willing to listen to him blabber about his research.”

“Well I’m sure anyone can be convinced of that with enough money.”

“And where on Earth do you expect to find the money for that?” Claggor raises a skeptical eyebrow.

Mylo slammed his hands on the table, “What you need is a sponsor of your own! I heard Maddie Nolen is LOADED and has had her eye on Caitlyn for a while now. We just have to get her to pay someone to date Jayce. While she focuses her energy on that, YOU spend the time with Caitlyn.”

“I know Caitlyn could use some help with Shakespeare. Vi, you’re pretty good with literature. Why don’t you offer to help,” Claggor seemingly coming around to the idea of this plan.

Vi leans back for a moment, crossing her arms. Find a nerd for Jayce Talis. Convince Maddie Nolen to pay this nerd to date him. Help a cute girl with Shakepeare. Really, how hard could it be?

-

Maddie Nolen is annoying. But she knows a lot of people, and seems to have an idea to set Jayce up with some guy who is working with some similar science or something. And he’s the kind of guy who is interested in making extra money.

“Viktor. He’s also working on an energy related project, and I heard he’s looking to make a bit of extra money to purchase some gear that the university doesn’t have. This is a really good idea Vi, but what do you get out of coming to me with this.”

Shit. It’s not like Vi can tell Maddie she’s interested in the same girl. “I think you were in a class I’m in this semester. I was hoping for some homework…”

“I’m not giving you any of my work Vi.”

Vi shrugs “Eh, it was worth a shot. I’ll see you around Maddie.” Seems like a believable enough excuse. All that matters is that Maddie has Jayce Talis covered.

-

The next day, at the end of criminology, Vi catches Caitlyn on her way out of class.

“Hey cupcake.”

Caitlyn turns, giving Vi a blank stare. Then her eyebrows pinch together, and she points at herself, “me? I’m cupcake?”

”Yup. I’m Vi.” Vi sticks out her hand, sending Caitlyn a wink.

Caitlyn grabs it, a light blush across her cheeks, “Caitlyn. Not, cupcake.”

“Whatever you say. Out of everyone in class, it looks like you have the most detailed notes. I missed the last week of classes and thought maybe we could meet up and you could help me catch up.”

Cait seems to ponder it for a moment, finally with a light huff, “Sure, I guess I could do that. I probably am the most prepared in class to do so.” A small amount of pride flickers across her eyes.

What a nerd. Cute, nerd.

“If you’re free Friday, I can go over all my notes with you then.”

“See you Friday, cupcake.”
