Chapter Text
Robyn at the pier
____
There she was, standing at the pier, looking out, feeling the breeze on her skin, missing him
Marcus
It’s been a few months since she and Marcus talked since he moved to LA. It felt like her heart had been ripped out of her chest, and she felt an ache that wouldn’t go away
“He left,” she thought to herself—
He left her standing on that pier, eyes filled with tears and regret. She was so upset with Marcus, but she was also upset with herself
They’ve known each other for years, and their “relationship” wasn’t anything new. She knew how she felt about him, and she secretly knew he felt the same way. But they never crossed that line—as many times as they wanted to, they never did.
Her head filled with “maybes” and “what ifs”…but none of that mattered because this was her reality—
Realizing it made the ache in her chest feel worse. It was hard for her to breathe, and she felt helpless.
For weeks, she has been trying to keep herself together, trying to tell herself it would be okay. She did all of her favorite things. She hung out with Dee and Aunt Vi, and she even started going on little lunch dates with Miles.
But every day, she couldn’t help but think about him. Especially when she was alone, all she could think about were the memories they once shared. Going back to when they first met at his precinct.
Her saying his name for the first time, “Detective Dante,” and how it just rolled off her tongue effortlessly. He looked at her and was intrigued at first sight, trying to hit on her and figure her out all at the same time, but still doing his job. Them flirting over the years and how they have always looked out for each other. The times when she needed to talk, and how he would be the first person to come to mind, vice versa. All their memories hit her at once she couldn’t take it anymore. She decided to go home, take a shower, and try to sleep away some of the heartache.

Robyn walks in the door, looking at her keys and setting them down, thinking about Marcus and what he had said to her one day when they were on FaceTime. “When I come in at night, before I hang up my keys, I look at them and feel the weight in my hand to remind myself I am home, to remind myself to be present.” It's like she couldn’t escape him.
She goes upstairs and gets in the shower. “Robyn, get it together,” she tells herself, but she can’t help it. She hasn’t felt this way about anyone before, and it was killing her from the inside out.
She stepped out of the shower, thinking to herself,
“Enough is enough, I’m going to LA.” She hurried and dried off, she packed a quick bag, getting everything she needed, and booked her at last-minute flight. It was the weekend so Dee was with her father and Aunt vi was out of town in Paris for an art exhibition that she won from an art contest. Robyn had all her stuff together and just like that, she was out the door.
_______________
Marcus was sitting in his apartment enjoying a cup of tea. He had just gotten home from a long and overwhelming day. They were chasing a cartel group, and every time they took 2 steps forward, it always placed them 5 steps backward. He was exhausted, he missed his sons and life in New York. He had never been away from his sons like this, and it was affecting him and his work, but that wasn’t the only thing affecting him.
Robyn has been on his mind since he left her alone crying on the pier. He would always replay the moment in his head— seeing her cry, her pouring out her heart to him, he couldn’t stand it. He and Robyn haven’t spoken since he left, and he was broken; it was like a piece of him was in LA, and he couldn’t breathe without it. Little did he know that he and Robyn were in the same boat.
He grabbed his phone and pulled up her contact information. He stared at it for 5 minutes, wondering if she would pick up. “What would I say to her?”…” Does she even want to talk to me?”…” What if she never wants to see me again?”.. All these thoughts clouding his head, he got overwhelmed and just shut his phone off. “Maybe a nap will help,” he said to himself.
He walked to the bedroom, cut the lights off,
closed the curtains, and got into bed. He was snoring 20 minutes later.
_______________
On the plane, she messaged Harry to track Dante down. She didn’t know where he lived, so she had no choice. “I hope he doesn’t get upset about this,” she mumbled. A few minutes later, she started dozing off, trying to figure out the words to say when she finally saw him. She searched for the words and couldn’t find anything, She started getting frustrated, so she let sleep win. “I’ll figure it out when I get there,” she yawned.
Robyn had finally landed, and it was 8 pm. She caught an Uber and headed to Marcus' place.
Robyn had arrived at Marcus Luxury Apartment. She looked around, taking in her surroundings. Marcus lived in a beautiful 15-floor high-rise apartment. She smelled the ocean in the air and heard the sound of sirens and palm trees swaying as she walked through the door. She was so nervous that she started shaking a little. “Will he even be happy to see me?”.. She still hadn’t figured out what she wanted to say to him. She walked towards the elevator, and when it finally opened, “Here goes nothing,” she murmured.

Marcus is waking up from his nap, looking at the time. He yawned and got up to get a bottle of water. Before he can take a sip, he hears a knock at the door—
“Who could that be?” he says, tilting his head as he sets the bottle of water down. He walks towards the door and opens it.
His eyes grew wide as he looked at her. “Robyn,” He said, confused and unsure, wondering if he was dreaming or not. “Hey, Marcus” she replied bitting her lip looking into his eyes and quickly looking down at her feet. She was preparing herself for this, but she still felt a tightening in her chest, and all she could do was look down. “Robyn, what are you doing here?” He said softly, still confused. “I- I needed to see you, Marcus…” she swallowed, hardly, and met his eyes. “Can I please come in?” she said as her eyes softened. Marcus got lost for a minute. He couldn't believe what was happening, “She really came all the way here to see me,” as he’s still thinking to himself, Robyn interrupts his thoughts, “Marcus?” she said, staring at him. “Ye— yeah, my bad, come in,” he says as he steps to the side and motions with his hand, telling her to come in.
