Chapter Text
You wake up to your best friend Yeji shaking you.
“Wake up! You’ve been matched.”
Your eyes fly open, “What?!”
Arranged marriages are how people “find” their partners. Dating isn’t a necessity when you can just fill out a questionnaire and it pops out your perfect match.
The thing with arranged marriages is that you don’t see them until at the alter.
“I checked the mail and it was addressed to you but it said ‘match found’ so I opened your mail anyways cause I was excited and couldn’t wait sorry,” she blurts out, her face turning pink in embarrassment.
You throw off your blankets, “By mail makes it sound so official and scary, where is it?”
You both head into the kitchen and see the letter and ripped open envelope, “Looks like you literally took a bite out of the envelope.”
Yeji laughs, “I told you I was excited.”
You read the letter stating you have been matched with a man named Choi Soobin.
It listed when the wedding would be and how to send back your response with color choices, invites, and food options.
“At least they let you pick something for the wedding,” Yeji says with a smile, “Do I get to be your bridesmaid?”
You laugh a little staring at the date of the wedding.
Next week.
You will be married to whoever Choi Soobin is next week.
“W-what?,” you feel your self not paying attention to her and your body start panicking.
Married. Next week. Husband.
Next week.
“I think I’m going to be sick,” you look at her. She wraps her arms around you and brings you for a hug.
“It’ll be okay dude, the questionnaire never fails. This dude going to be your husband. He is going to be your ride or die. All that sickness and in health bullshit. You’ll be loved and cherished forever.”
You feel yourself relax in your best friend’s arms as she says that. It’ll be okay. The questionnaire never fails when matching.
A few days go by fast as both you and your best friend went about your days.
It was your guys routines that kept your mind from wondering off and onto the wedding and Soobin.
You and Yeji were sitting on the couch watching a drama.
“Do you think he’s thinking of you?” Yeji asked randomly.
“I would hope so considering we’re going to get married in a few days,” you don’t take your eyes away from the tv but you can feel Yeji looking at you.
You feel your mind start to wonder to the wedding and him, “I’m scared Yeji.”
She sighs, “Of what?”
“What if he doesn’t like me or he finds me ugly or he is against arranged marriages or his mom doesn’t like me or what if he doesn’t show up,” you can feel yourself tensing the more you spoke your worries.
Yeji thinks before she speaks, “He wouldn’t have filled out the questionnaire if he was against arranged marriages, also who cares if his mom doesn’t like you. You’re not getting married to her, you’re getting married to Soobin~”
You pause the drama and get off the couch to grab your phone from the kitchen counter, “Should I try to find him on his socials or is that too much? I know it’s supposed to be a surprise and stuff but I hate surprises, you know that.”
“Absolutely not,” Yeji follows you and snatches your phone from your hands, “it’s supposed to be a surprise, love at first sight type of thing. Don’t go ruining the fun!”
You huff and try to grad your phone back, “I need to know Yeji. I think I’ll go insane without knowing.”
“Three days.”
“Huh?”
“Three days is all you have to wait until you see him. 72 hours dude, you got this,” Yeji says with optimism you wish you had.
You remind yourself this is your wedding. You’ll be wearing a beautiful wedding dress, your best friend will be by your side, and your loving family will be there.
All that is left is your husband. Who you hope is as good as your mind wants to believe.
