Starry starry night

Summary:

Sua’s silent for a bit, “Sorry I left, I was worried about what they would assume about us.”
“Assume what?”
“That we’re dating.”
“I don't care what they think, we’re just messing around.”
“But I do, what if they think of us differently because of it?”
“What if? We can't do anything about what they think.” Mizi says, turning away silent for a bit,
“And would it be so bad if we were?”
Sua looks at the moon in the cloudy night sky thinking, before looking back at Mizi, who's staring off at the parking lot full of cars reflecting and shining in the street lamps and moonlight.
“No, not at all.”

Work Text:

Mizi steps out of the black passenger car door in the cool night, walks up the pathway to the front door of the simple two-story white house and rings the bell.
“In a minute!” a voice yells from inside and after a beat the door opens revealing Sua standing in the doorway in a simple white knee length tight dress and low heeled black pumps.
“Oh my gosh you look so pretty!” Mizi squeals, throwing herself onto her and her arms around Sua’s neck and swaying her,
“You do too!” Sua says pulling Mizi off her and smiling, taking in her gold hoops and light blue strapless mermaid gown that matches the blue ends of her hair.
“What are we waiting for? Come on!” Mizi says, taking Sua’s hand and leading her down the pathway to the car where the driver has rolled down the passenger window and leans over to talk out of it
“Looking nice ladies!” Ivan says as they walk up
“Aww thanks!” Mizi says, climbing into the back seats with Sua following “Prom here we come!” she calls out as the car starts driving to their high school.

Before they even walk into the gym they can hear Summerboy by Lady Gaga playing and the chatter of over two hundred people inside and once they get in there's even more to take in. The rooms dark only illuminated by blue, white, and purple strobe lights and the reflecting of peoples jewelry, Purple and white streamers hang from the ceiling with and a banner spelling out “JUNIOR PROM!” in huge font, hangs on the other side of the room opposite of the door and balloons matching the color scheme are displayed all around the room. There's a snack and drink bar on the left wall with people crowded around talking and eating, and even more people on the center floor dancing or chatting, and to the right there are tables with people sitting and talking.

“Look it's your boyfriend!” Mizi says to Ivan, pulling on his sleeve and pointing out the grey-haired boy he likes, awkwardly standing against the wall holding a drink in a dress shirt and slacks.
“Is it alright if i go talk to him?” he asks, turning to them before Mizi gives him a push on the back and a thumbs up “Go get him tiger!” and then watches as he walks over to the boy and they start talking and laughing about what she can't tell but it seems to be going well.
“You think he'll finally get his number this time?” Sua asks, stepping forward beside Mizi
“Definitely, now come on let's have some fun!” she says, grabbing Suas hand and leading her through the flocks of people.

They end up waiting in line for the photo booth in the back of the gym chatting Before it's their turn to go up in front of the backdrop, They do the different prompts as the photographer tells them too until she says to do something Silly and turning Mizi gently pecks Sua on her cheek before she has to move and the photographer has already taken the photo. The lady prints out the photos and hands them to Mizi while she giggles.
“Look how surprised you look in it!” she says, smiling, pointing to the silly one where Sua’s face is slightly flushed and her eyes are wide open in surprise.
“Yeah,” she says, glancing at the line of people waiting for their photos who saw it.

They sit at a table talking and lightly eating for a while before eventually getting up and moving to the center floor surrounded by people coming together and swaying while holding hands, chatting and laughing with the lights flashing onto them before Mizi moves forward and pulls her hands around Sua’s waist and giggling asks
“Don't we look like a couple?”
Sua freezes and then pulls herself out of Mizi’s arms and turns the other way. “I'm going to go get a drink” she blurts out before walking away through the people to the snack bar leaving Mizi standing there confused amidst the crowd before she quickly follows weaving through the flock of people.
”You okay?” she asks frowning, coming next to Sua beside the punch bowl as she fills a cup.
“Yeah I'm just thirsty, wanna go back?”
“Sure,” Mizi replies smiling again, interlinking her arm with Sua’s and walking back to where they stood before.
“Look at Ivan!” Mizi says pointing to where he's sitting at a table with the other boy laughing and chatting
“Looks like he din’t need our help after all.” Sua says smiling.

They continue just swaying to the music and talking like they were before with Sua occasionally glancing at the people around them, as the night wears on they grow closer together until their holding hands again and Sua notices a group staring at them.
“Hey I'm going to go get another drink, i'll be back.” She says separating from Mizi
“Alright!” Mizi replies turning away to the crowd and watching them dance while Sua walks away, After standing waiting for a while Mizi goes to the snack bar looking for her and when she's not there either she goes into the girl's bathroom calling her name
“Sua? Are you here?”
And with no luck there either she weaves her way back through the crowd to where Ivan is still sitting at the table with the boy talking and she taps on his shoulder to get his attention.

“Hey, do you know where Sua is? She said she was going to get a drink but she wasn't at the bar and wasn't in the bathroom either when I checked.”
Ivan turns to her “No sorry, I wasn't paying attention to you guys.”
“I do,” the other boy says, speaking up from where he's sitting, “I saw her leave the gym. I don't know where she went after though.”
“Thanks!” Mizi says, turning to leave the gym, she pushes open the doors to for the most part a silent hall beside the couple making out and the muted booming music coming from the gym and calls out for Sua while walking around the only hall that isnt blocked off.
“Are you looking for someone?” a boy with chestnut colored hair Mizi knows from her french class asks coming around the corner startling her,
“Uh Yeah, white dress and short black hair, have you seen her?” she asks pausing her stroll
“Yeah, she passed by me before leaving the building.”
“She left the school?”
“Mhm.”
“Alright, thanks acorn.” Mizi says, walking past him to the end of the hall past the lockers and opening the door to the cold night breeze outside and stepping forward to the figure sitting on the stoop, staring at their shoes.

“Sua? What are you doing out here? It's freezing!” Mizi says, coming and sitting beside her on the cold concrete stairs while rubbing her arms and watching her breath in the air, They sit in silence for a while while the sound of crickets and frogs fill the dark night air before Sua speaks up,
“You look really pretty in that dress.”
“Aw thanks!” she says smiling, nudging Sua’s arm. “You look pretty too.”
Sua’s silent for a bit, “Sorry I left, I was worried about what they would assume about us.”
“Assume what?”
“That we’re dating.”
“I don't care what they think, we’re just messing around.”
“But I do, what if they think of us differently.”
“What if? We can't do anything about what they think.” Mizi says, turning away silent for a bit,
“And would it be so bad if we were?”
Sua looks at the moon in the cool stary night sky, thinking before looking back at Mizi, who's staring off at the parking lot in front of them full of cars reflecting and shining in the street lamps and moonlight.
“No, not at all.”

Mizi turns and grabs Sua’s hand and softly kisses sua on the lips pulling back and Looking at her eyes for approval and when Sua doesn't waver she puts her hands around her neck pulling her closer and messily clashing their lips together while Sua hesitantly puts her hands on Mizi’s back closing her eyes and slowly falling into a rhythmic flow of their lips and tongues moving against each other with sparks and stars flying while she gently moves her hands up and down Mizi’s back with the low hum of music from the gym and the crickets filling the night air.
After what seems like years, they separate with their faces still close and breathing slightly heavier then previously before Sua leans away.
“We should get back to the dance,” Sua says flushed quickly getting up before Mizi holds onto the hem of her dress, keeping her in place
“Stay with me, it's nice out here.” And the lighting from the street lamps and moon makes Mizi’s makeup and flushed face look so beautiful to Sua she couldn't say no in a million lifetimes so she sits back down on the cold cement stairs next to Mizi with her leaning on her shoulder and they listen to the crickets and watch the stars together wondering what they are supposed to do now.
