Salt and Soulmates

Summary:

Everyone on Earth has a soulmate. You'll know your soulmate by the tattoo that appears on your forearm after they speak to you the first time. That tattoo will forever memorialize the first sentence they ever spoke to you.

Notes:

I've gotten really into Soulmate Au's right now. So, I've been inspired to write a series of short fics about meeting your Bangtan soulmate.

Work Text:

“You’re late! If you aren’t here in the next five minutes, I’m ordering without you.” You said into the phone.

“Perfect! Order me a burger, mayo on the side, mashed potatoes instead of fries and a sweet tea.” Your best friend replied.

“Fine. But hurry up! I look like I’ve been stood up!” You said before hanging up the phone.

You had been sitting in this restaurant by yourself for the last 20 minutes waiting on your best friend to arrive. As usual, she was late. You glanced around, seeing your server walk by. You waved her over and told her you were ready to order.

“What can I get for you?” She asked with a smile.

“Ok. Um…Can I have the smoked mac and cheese with a side of steamed broccoli and a Coke to drink. And my friend wants the Char-burger, mayo on the side. And can she get mashed potatoes instead of fries?” You asked.

“Sure. What does she want to drink?” The server replied.

“Do you have sweet tea?” You questioned.

“Homemade! It’s to die for!” The server answered.

“Ok, she wants the sweet tea.”

“Great! I’ll get that order put in and it’ll be out shortly!” The server said before walking away.

Another five minutes passed and you heard the door to the restaurant open. You looked over your shoulder praying it was your best friend. Instead of her, you saw the most beautiful man you’d ever laid eyes on. He glanced around, looking for someone. Your eyes met and a blush appeared on his smooth skin as he smiled. Before you could react, you heard a man at a table near yours yell across the restaurant.

“Jin! Over here!” The blond man waved.

The man, Jin, walked over to the table and sat down with his friend. You hastily checked your phone, desperate for something to do as you felt his gaze pierce you. You scrolled through Facebook and willed your friend to hurry up for another few minutes. The server rushed by with a tray full of food that wasn’t yours and you tapped your fingers impatiently on the table. Another server stopped at the table with the attractive man, dropping off a bowl of chips and spinach dip before bringing your meal and placing it in front of you on the table. Your stomach growled in appreciation as you surveyed the smoked macaroni and cheese in front of you. Grabbing your fork, you dove in, refusing to wait on your slow friend any longer. You took a bite, savoring the smoky flavor. You were chewing a large bite when someone approached your table.

“Excuse me, can I borrow your salt? Our chips have zero salt or seasoning.” Said the attractive man.

You instantly held back the choke you knew would come if you swallowed your food, nodding your head “yes” and handing him the salt. He took it with a smile, his fingers grazing yours as he grasped the saltshaker. He turned and walked back to his table and that’s when you noticed the tingling feeling on your arm. Raising your sleeve, you saw the mark of a soul mate tattoo appearing on your forearm. The scrawling letters began to spell out words.

“Excuse me, can I borrow your salt?” Plain as day, like the words had been there your entire life. You looked back up at the man, now sitting at his table with his friend. Your eyes were huge, trying to understand what had just happened.

“Who was that tall drink of delicious?” Your friend asked, sliding into the booth across the table from you.

“I think that was my soul mate.” You said, obviously still in shock.

                “What?! No way!” She replied.

You showed her your arm and she let out a squeal of excitement. The men at the other table looked over at you and you couldn’t believe your luck. There he was; beautiful face, plump lips. A chip full of spinach dip raised halfway to his mouth. His shoulders were broad and you instantly felt the desire to rest your head on those shoulders. To wrap your arms around his neck and curl in close to him. Before you could think more, your friend was pulling you out of the booth and pushing you towards his table. You stumbled towards him, nearly falling into his arms as he stared at you.

“So, I think you might be my soul mate.” You whispered out.

His eyes grew wide as you both watched your words appear on his forearm.

“I’m Jin.” He said with a smile, motioning for you to sit down next to him.
