Sunshine Smiles and Connecting Flights

Summary:

Everyone on Earth has a soulmate. You'll know your soulmate by the tattoo that appears on your forearm after they speak to you the first time. That tattoo will forever memorialize the first sentence they ever spoke to you.

Work Text:

Traveling for work had become the norm in your life as a sales rep. You were currently sitting in the airport on a layover from Dallas to Atlanta. You were exhausted, but in good spirits. You’d recently secured a huge sales account for your company that would (hopefully) result in a nice raise in your salary. You had just three more sales meetings to go to before you’d be heading home for a weeklong vacation. It would be another two hours before you flight boarded, so you were curled up in a chair near your gate, reading a book. Occasionally, as you read, you’d let out a small laugh, enjoying the plight of the main characters of your book.

As the surrounding gates began to fill up, you looked up to see a man sit in the seat across from you. He was absorbed in the screen of his phone and you couldn’t take your eyes off him. As he scrolled, his face lit up in a smile that could block out the sun. He began typing on the screen and your heart fell at the thought that he may be texting his girlfriend or wife. You let out a disappointed sigh and went back to your reading. Soon, you were immersed in your book again, blocking out the world around you. After a particularly funny chapter, you were nearly in tears with laughter. That’s when you heard a voice, right next to you.

“Sorry to bother you, but you have the prettiest laugh I’ve ever heard.” Said the stranger.

You looked up to see the man with the bright smile. He had moved to sit next to you while you were reading. Warmth radiated off him and you were staring again. When you failed to speak, he offered you his hand to shake.

“I’m Hoseok. But everyone calls me J-Hope.” He said with another blinding smile.

“Is it because your smile gives the world hope?” You said, mouth working far faster than your mind.

You put your hand over your mouth in shock as he let out an amused laugh.

“I did not mean to say that out loud!” You explained.

He laughed again as you tried to bury your face in your hands. That’s when you noticed the writing, already scrawled across your forearm. You pulled your hands away from your face and stared at the words written on your arm. Glancing up, you saw J-Hope staring at your arm as well.

“Looks like I’ll be hearing that beautiful laugh of yours a lot from now on!” He said with a bright smile.

“Then, I think you’re going to have to buy me some sunglasses. That smile of yours keeps blinding me.” You said before your brain could stop you.

                “Deal!” He said.

You spent the next 45 minutes talking and laughing and enjoying each other’s company. Before you were ready, the overhead speaker announced it was boarding time for your flight. J-Hope was on a different flight, going to a different city. His flight wouldn’t board for another 20 minutes. With a heavy heart, you both walked towards your gate. J-Hope carried your suitcase in one hand while his other hand was comfortably linked with yours. You got in line to board your flight, waving a sorrowful goodbye to your newfound soul mate. Before you reached the desk to hand over your ticket, J-Hope rushed up to you, pulling you to face him. He gave you his sunshine smile one last time before diving in and crashing his lips against yours. After a few deep, passionate kisses, he gave you one last peck on the lips before giving you one last (less bright) smile.

“See you soon, Soulmate!” He said before pushing you towards your flight.
