Chapter Text
Every cookie that has came to be has heard this tale as old as time itself. Every villain, every hero, every vigilante, you name it.
Once upon the time, Cookiekind inhabited Earthbread as their own. The stars and the sky was theirs to keep and play with. To explore, to study, to live and feel. Every cookie that breathed in the sweet air knew what it felt like to love. Of course, there was good and evil. Evil that spread from all corners of Earthbread. To combat this, the Cookies’ creators, the Witches, created the Five Virtues, blessed with special gems that gave them the abilities to do their duties, called the Soul Jams. There be the Fount of Knowledge, the Master of the Ivory Pagoda, the Herald of Change, the Bringer of Happiness, and the Embodiment of Liberation. These five heroes protected every Cookie that graced the sweet soil of Earthbread.
Alas, everything good must come to an end. Cookies stopped caring about the bitter truths, the facts they couldn’t comprehend. They grew to love the lies that came from the Fount of Knowledge’s mouth. “I will bring deceit to this world,” he concluded. “I will make my followers weave lies from the tips of their fingers to the soles of their heel.”
The Master of the Ivory Pagoda was burdened with a thousand wishes. She saw the avarices and true greed of her followers. She could not bear to see any more greed or uninterest, so she wrapped herself in a cocoon. “Everything will come to an end anyway,” she concluded, “Why should I embrace life, apathy is the way all Cookiekind will have satisfaction!”
The Herald of Change watched everything sprout from the soil to withering away. He stopped loving and started to loathe. Seeing everything he cared for fall drove him to madness. The boredom mixed with madness corrupted him. “I will destroy everything until nothing remains,” he concluded. “Alas, I shall embrace destruction!”
There is one more corrupted Virtue, but this shall be our last one of today. The Bringer of Happiness did as her title said she would. In fact, she was a master at it. No cookie in her path would feel any sorrow. But, even the masters make a mistake. The burden of making every Cookie happy was too much for her. She saw all her dearest Cookies wither to their demise. “I will make a paradise where no one is sad,” she concluded. “I will make it hell outside, but in this paradise, no Cookie shall ever be sad again. I will never see sad Cookies again.”
All of their Soul Jams were stripped from them. Chained to a silver tree, they stayed trapped for hundreds upon hundreds of years. The Soul Jams would be given to new Cookies, the weight of being a hero perched upon them. Once the Virtues, now the Beasts, came free, everything in their wake would be destroyed. They will stop at nothing to have their dearest Soul Jams back.
