Dog Park

Summary:

Everyone on Earth has a soulmate. You'll know your soulmate by the tattoo that appears on your forearm after they speak to you the first time. That tattoo will forever memorialize the first sentence they ever spoke to you.

Work Text:

You had just moved to a new city a week ago. During the move and unpacking process, you hadn’t had much time to get out and exercise your Great Dane, Molly. She’d been cooped up in the house too long and was getting restless. Her long limbs were strewn across the couch as you unpacked yet another box in the living room. After hearing a lazy sigh from your gentle giant, you got an idea.

“Molly! Want to go run around the park?!” You said cheerfully.

Molly jumped up from the couch, wagging her tail in excitement. You unburied a leash and her favorite Frisbee before pulling on your shoes and guiding her out the door. You walked Molly to the dog park a few blocks away from your house. She was practically bouncing in joy at the sight of all the other dogs playing. You quickly found a sunny spot to play and waved the Frisbee at her. She took off like a shot the second you released the Frisbee into the air. Jumping up, she caught it in her mouth and rushed back towards you. You and Molly played like this for another 10 minutes before she decided to play keep away. She ran towards you and just as you reached out to grab the Frisbee from her mouth, she turned and ran the other way, expecting you to chase her. You laughed and chased her. She dodged side to side, running circles around you happily. Soon, you and Molly were both worn out, laying down in the grass when you heard a deep voice approaching.

“Can I pet your dog?” The voice said, gently.

Molly looked up at the stranger, wagging her tail and sitting up to greet him. You looked up and were met with long, slender legs, tan skin and the cutest, boxy smile you’d ever seen. His eyes were dark and kind. In short, he was stunning.

“Her name is Molly.” You said as he bent down to pet her.

Molly responded by leaning more into him, as if trying to hug him. The man ruffled her floppy ears and began kissing her snout. Molly was completely taken with the stranger, licking his face. You studied him as he snuggled her. He was obviously a dog lover, but you’d never seen Molly take to a stranger the way she had taken to him. As if feeling your eyes on him, the stranger began stage-whispering to Molly.

“Molly, I think you’re smitten with me. What about your owner? Do you think she’s smitten with me too? Should I ask for her number?”

Molly barked in response as the man looked at you. You smirked, knowing you’d been found out. He reached into his back pocket and pulled out his phone.  Holding the phone in front of him, he stilled and let out a gasp. Looking up at you, he fixed you with another boxy smile before typing something into his phone before handing it to you.

“I’ll just put you under ‘Soulmate’ in my contacts.” He said as you took the phone.

You looked down at his arm, seeing your dog’s name tattooed there. You looked at your own arm and saw his question inked on your skin. You flashed your eyes up, meeting his gaze and let out a perplexed giggle. Typing your number into his phone, you quickly sent yourself a text. Your phone buzzed with the text ringtone as you handed his phone back to your soulmate.

“You met your soulmate today!” Read the text you sent yourself.

“I’m Taehyung.” Your soulmate said, eyes on you, waiting for a response.

You told him your name with another laugh and he repeated the name a few times in awe. Soon, Molly was ready to play again. This time, you enjoyed watching Taehyung chase her around, rolling around in the grass with her as you laughed.
