The Heart Broke

Summary:

What happens when Heart finally can’t take it anymore

Chapter 1: The calm before the storm

Chapter Text

Another argument yet again.

Heart and Mind were doing their whole back and forth blame on why the other would be bad for the Whole. This spiel happens so many times it felt like it was rehearsed.

Until four simple words caused a catastrophe.

[It’s all your fault]

(What?)

[It’s your fault all of this is happening. If you would just back off and quit being a burden we would be Whole again.]

The words Mind said stung, hard. Heart noticed how after their arguments the dissonance between everyone would grow stronger and how Soul’s drinking problem became worse. These thoughts were now muffling the sound of Mind’s voice which got him thinking, would life be better if he was gone?

That night Heart laid in bed staring up at the ceiling, his thoughts too rampant for him to sleep. He thought about Soul’s drinking problem and the fact that they all still weren’t Whole again. With a swift motion he reached for the bedside cabinet.

Heart thought he was getting better, he really thought he was. He grabbed a blade, still surprisingly sharp. He stood up and brought the blade upon his arms. He expected it to sting and burn but it felt…good. Heart hadn’t really felt anything since the argument and he felt like he deserved this. After all it was all his fault that everything was wrong and why everything wasn’t right.

Heart had gotten so caught up in his thoughts that he never noticed the endless amount of cuts he made on his body. Cuts varying in depth cascaded from his shoulders to his ankles. He should be disappointed, he should be angry, but all he felt was utter joy.

The next morning nothing felt right, looked right but not felt right. Everyone was just having breakfast in silence, like the calm before the storm, normally by now Heart and Mind would’ve started their usual shenanigans.

[Well look who’s finally being more mature] Mind said mockingly. He expected Heart to talk back or to at least shoot him a glare but nothing. The emotional side wasn’t being very…emotional. Heart was being a husk of what himself, his actions lacking any emotion.

This was not good.
