Chapter Text
Jimin felt his bed bend under someone’s weight and even in his groggy state, he knew it was Taehyung slipping into his bed. It was normal for them to share beds. It was either Jimin slipping into Taehyung’s after a rough day of dance practice or Taehyung slipping into Jimin’s just because. Like two magnets, they always found their way to each other somehow. There was even a long period where the two tried to sleep in separate beds but suffered extreme withdrawal symptoms afterwards. That’s why they were roommates, hotel mates and seat mates. It was more than just being the 95z or best friends. They joked and said they were platonic soul mates so often they seriously believed it now. But to put it simply, Taehyung and Jimin needed each other. They were two separate people that functioned better when they were together. Instead of being two pieces of one whole they were both composed of pieces that made up the whole. They were interwoven and broken up pieces of each other.
“Couldn’t sleep?” Jimin murmured. He backed up against the wall and opened his arms. Taehyung immediately slipped into them humming his content. He nudged his head under Jimin’s chin but then thought better of it and laid it on the crook of Jimin’s shoulder, sniffing deeply.
The two had long ago given up on sleeping separately. Taehyung couldn’t sleep comfortably without Jimin’s steady heartbeat in his ears and Jimin couldn’t sleep until he felt Taehyung’s suffocating weight on him. Even when they went back to their respective homes they still managed to sleep at the same time, usually talking on skype until the early morning, falling asleep in front of the camera monitor. They were best friends to the extreme with unattainable friendship goals.
Taehyung grinned and pecked Jimin’s forehead before sliding down the bed to comfortably rest his head on the elder’s chest. It was comforting, just listening to the constant strum of Jimin’s heart. Similar to counting sheep, Taehyung would count the steady heartbeats until he fell asleep.
In the beginning, Jimin didn’t like Taehyung jumping into his bed without any warning. Jimin liked his own personal space and Taehyung wasn’t exactly light either. He would sprawl on top of Jimin, making Jimin’s nights a constant struggle to find sleep. But Taehyung was stubborn and no matter what Jimin said, Taehyung found his way under Jimin’s covers at night. Jimin was his platonic soulmate. It was his responsibility to be Taehyung’s bed and cuddle mate.
Jimin pushed Taehyung’s bangs away from his forehead as he pulled the blanket over them. Taehyung’s body was a reassuring pressure for him. Any complaints Jimin had disappeared a long time ago; Taehyung became his second blanket, his second layer. He was the protective layer that Jimin needed, would always need.
Looking back maybe that was the beginning of the end. The end of what, Jimin wasn’t sure. He still isn’t sure. But when he looks at Taehyung now he knows he’s in trouble. How can he function without Taehyung if he can’t even sleep without the other? He was always internally worrying about whether Taehyung felt the same way. Could Taehyung replace him one day with a better cuddler? Was Taehyung as dependent on him as Jimin was on Taehyung? Jimin shook the thoughts from his head. At least Taehyung was with him now. As platonic soulmates, he was obligated to stay with him forever. Soulmates was a lifetime commitment.
“Tae?” Taehyung tightened his grip around Jimin’s waist and nuzzled his head deeper into Jimin’s chest, indicating that he was listening.
“You’re heavy,” Jimin muttered but he tightened his hold on Taehyung as well. Their legs tangled together and pretty soon they were both drifting off into dream land.
“You guys are so obviously in love,” Hoseok stared at them from the foot of their bed. Taehyung opened his eyes. His hands and legs were wrapped around Jimin like the other was a body pillow. Jimin’s head was smashed against his chest.
“No we’re bros for life. Completely platonic,” Taehyung said simply. He closed his eyes and lifted his hand to shoo his hyung away, “Go away. Need more sleep.”
“I’ll leave you two lovebirds alone.” Taehyung heard the door close behind his other roommate and turned around in bed. He felt Jimin’s hand wrap tightly around his waist and couldn’t help the smile that appeared.
The slightly older boy looked anything but peaceful at the moment. His mouth was slightly open and there was drool at the corner of his mouth. To anyone it would be disgusting, maybe even funny but Taehyung couldn’t help but smile because it was just so Jimin.
Taehyung didn’t know when the smallest things Jimin did became so adorable or when simple staring turned to outright longing. The transition seemed to either come out of nowhere or so gradually that it was impossible to pinpoint the exact moment. Taehyung tried not to delve on his feelings over his band mate, but it was hard because they were always together.
Every day was something new in their friendship. Every day they were testing the boundaries of their relationship. First it was handholding and then it was cuddling. They even pecked each other occasionally to comfort each other. It wasn’t supposed to be romantic; everything was supposed to be platonic.
Taehyung sighed and moved to lay his head back on Jimin’s chest, slowly counting his best friend’s heartbeats. He tried to sleep. He really did. It was their day off; he didn’t want to spend it awake when he could be catching up on some much needed sleep but he couldn’t stop thinking.
How about if he did have feelings for Jimin?
Taehyung’s turning must have woken Jimin up because the next thing he knew, Jimin was laying a warm hand securely on Taehyung’s back.
“Morning Tae,” Jimin ruffled Taehyung’s hair affectionately. Taehyung felt something bubble in his chest, but quickly pushed it to the back of his mind.
“So is this weird?” Taehyung moved over onto his side so he could face Jimin.
“What’s weird? Did you just fart?”
Taehyung rolled his eyes and slapped a hand on Jimin’s chest, “I meant us. Like sleeping on the same bed all of the time?”
“Where’s this coming from?” Jimin sat up, alarmed, “We’ve always done it before. It’s not weird.”
“Everyone thinks we’re dating….that we’re in love or something.”
Jimin rolled his eyes, “They’re all joking Tae. They all know we don’t like each other that way. Our relationship is completely----“
“Platonic” they said at the same time.
“I know but…” Taehyung stopped, “Yeah whatever.”
“Kim Taehyung, you are my platonic soul mate,” Jimin pat his knee and Taehyung clambered onto him to straddle him, “Nothing we do is ever going to be weird.” Jimin started rubbing circles in Taehyung’s back and Taehyung moved forward until their foreheads touched.
His heart was beating fast, there were butterflies in his stomach, there was a lump in his throat; he wanted to throw up emotions everywhere. Jimin was looking at him with a soft smile and he just looked so…soft. Jimin was so lovable. Damn he was so lovable. Taehyung realized at this moment that he was fucked.
He wasn’t sure if he was lucky to have Jimin as his platonic soulmate or the unluckiest bastard on earth because …platonic.
“You’re my boyfriend,” Taehyung stated.
Jimin laughed, “We’re boyfriends without the emotions.” It sounded like a question.
“Without the kissing,” Taehyung stated.
“Without any jealousy,” Jimin added.
“Without the unreasonable fighting,” Taehyung grinned, “Or the sex.”
“We’re definitely not making love in bed or having secret sex in the dance studio.”
“Or giving each other blow jobs in the shower.”
“Exactly,” Jimin shifted under Taehyung. Morning wood was normal for boys in the morning; however the topic was getting a bit uncomfortable because now he was imagining it, wanting it.
“Yeah I mean we could kiss and make out and we would still be platonic.” Taehyung’s voice was flat.
“No feelings what so ever,” Jimin’s voice was a bit shaky. He tried to move but Taehyung was still on him.
“At least not for now,” Taehyung murmured. He moved so his chin was resting on Jimin’s head. Jimin knew Taehyung could feel his morning boner. It was quite obvious and poking at places it shouldn’t be.
“You smell nice,” Taehyung murmured, closing his eyes.
“You must really like me if you think my morning breath is nice,” Jimin looked up and breathed a puff of air at Taehyung.
Taehyung gagged a bit before pushing Jimin down onto the bed. His hands were flat on Jimin’s chest. Jimin was worried Taehyung would feel his heartbeat speed up.
They stood in that position for a bit before Jimin pushed Taehyung to the side, “Can you kinda move? My little guy can’t breathe.”
“Awwww,” Taehyung squeezed little Jimin making Jimin jump and yell, “Taehyung!”
Taehyung smiled cheekily, “Bros can do that right?”
“Grab each other’s boners?” Jimin thought about it and then shrugged, “Yeah sure.”
