Chapter 1: Agreement

Chapter Text

Gawin Caskey Condominium
The Bangkok Residence

January 03, 2025

Gawin pedals his exercise bike while looking at the clear sky and humming, enjoying the morning air ㅡ his daily routine still exercising even though he doesn’t go to work. He glanced at his left wrist, then got off his exercise bike and walked up to the dining room while taking off his AirPods.

Gawin wiped his sweat as he watched his table. “I have to go to Nonthaburi today.” He whispered, then sat down and drank his mineral water. “Mom must be nagging if I don’t come home.”

Gawin ate his sandwich, then turned his head as his phone rang and picked up an incoming call from his Mom.

[Does the distance from Bangkok to Nonthaburi take twelve hours, huh?]

[Yeah, I’ll be home after I finish taking a shower]

[Not even necessarily you going home once a month, Fluke]

Gawin nodded lazily as he chewed with his back against the chair. He already knew his Mom would definitely grumble ㅡ even if it was in the morning like this.

[If you don’t come home, I won’t open the door for you again]

[Yes, Mom. I’m sorry and I love you]

Gawin pouted as he glanced at his phone, and it turned out that his Mom’s incoming call had ended. “I’m already thirty, but Mom still nags me like a ten-year-old kid.”

Gawin finished his sandwich, then drank his mineral water to the end, and got up from sitting because he had to take a shower so he could go to his Mom’s house.

“I swear to God, Mom...” Gawin grumbled, “I just wanted to take a shower, and you’ve called me again?”

Gawin walked up to the dining table, then picked up his phone and frowned ㅡ astonished, when he saw his phone screen display a group voice call.

[Good morning everyone and happy weekend]

Gawin ducked with both legs crossed and both hands on the table.

S : Good morning, Sir

G : Good morning too, Sir

B : I hope there are no impromptu jobs on weekends like this

K : P’Sing and I even just wanted to sleep again, Sir

[I’ll see you all in an hour from now, because there’s an important job for the four of you]

And Gawin immediately giggled at the grumbling of all his friends.

G : I guess my Mom really won’t open the door for me this time

B : Please, it’s weekend, Sir

S : Okay, Sir, we’ll all be at Ratthaprasasananhakti in an hour from now

K : No~

[See you later and thank you]

Gawin took a breath as he straightened up. “Mom will really nag me until my ears bleed this time if I don’t come home.”

Gawin tidied up the dining table and put all the dirty dishes in the sink and then washed everything that was dirty. He’s not sure how important the task will be this time, but it’s better not to leave his condo in a messy and dirty state.

DSI (Department of Special Investigation)
Lak Si - Bangkok

Gawin got out of the car and pressed the remote to lock the door, then entered the DSI headquarters with his firm steps. He put the remote of his car in his jacket pocket, then got into the lift and pressed the number button of the 4th floor ㅡ where the meeting was located.

Gawin glanced at the watch on his left wrist while tapping on the sole of his shoe on the lift floor ㅡ not daring to tell his Mom if he had to join an impromptu meeting this morning. He wasn’t ready for his ears to really bleed from hearing his Mom’s nagging ㅡ which could even last longer than a series episode.

Gawin immediately got out of the lift when the lift door opened, and walked quickly towards the meeting room, then opened the door carefully.

“Sit down, Fluke.”

Gawin went into the meeting room, then closed the door and sat in a chair while facing the big screen in front of him.

“This is Way-Ar Sangngern commonly known as Joss Wayar. He is currently the biggest mafia boss in Thailand, as he succeeded his Dad ㅡ who died four years ago.” Gun turned his head and looked at the members under his leadership ㅡ there were Singto, Krist, Boun, and Gawin. “Our Senate Chairman, Mr. Arthit ㅡ died because of him.”

“How come?” Gawin frowned, “Don’t all government officials have their own security systems?”

Gun smiled. “It is our duty to unravel the case of Mr. Arthit death.”

“Is there a definite answer as to who killed Mr. Arthit?” Gawin stroked his chin. “There is no news from the media regarding Mr. Arthit’s death.”

“Joss Wayar is from Nakhon Si Thammarat and has almost complete control over a drug trafficking network in Thailand.” Gun shifted the image with his remote. “He is the number one most dangerous man in Thailand now.”

Gawin raised his eyebrows as he looked at Gun. “So, do you mean Mr. Arthit’s death had anything to do with the drug trade run by him?”

“The exact reason for Mr. Arthit’s death I can’t confirm yet, but what is clear is that Mr. Arthit’s death has something to do with him.”

Gawin leaned back on the chair. “If that is the case, then we cannot use violence when dealing with him.”

“Joss Wayar owns and runs nearly a hundred bars all over Thailand now.” Gun tapped his finger on the table. “And all those bars can only be entered by rich people or high officials of our country.”

“It’s too risky.” Singto took a deep breath while grabbing his hair. “Death is the closest thing to us if we deal with him.”

“The DSI recruited you all for a reason ㅡ you were chosen not only because you were strong, but also because you were smart in designing and strategizing and making decisions.” Gun leaned back on the chair. “I know you guys already have an idea of what kind of strategy to use to unravel the case of Mr. Arthit’s death.”

Boun turned his head and looked at Gawin, then shrugged.

“Have any previous members of the DSI ever dealt with a case related to him?” Gawin asked ㅡ assuring, “We need to know first how the previous seniors did their job in handling his case.”

“There’s a folder in front of all of you, and you can read profiles of anyone who’s ever been on a mission related to the Joss Wayar Sangngern case and why they didn’t go back to the DSI.”

Gawin took the folder from the table, then read the entire data of senior DSI members ㅡ who had previously carried out missions, and frowned. “Jiratchapong Srisang betrayed the DSI and became Joss Wayar’s subordinate?”

“Damn...” Krist shuddered, “Died, and the body was in front of the victim’s house without any clarity about who delivered the body.”

“What the hell is this...” Boun closed the folder and looked at Gun. “I don’t want to deal directly with him.”

Gun shrugged. “It is a pity that this case had to be dismantled by order of His Majesty the King.”

Gawin closed the folder, then massaged his temple ㅡ suddenly dizzy. “If we use violence, then our death will be the next thing for the DSI.”

“I think you all understand what kind of strategy to use to solve this case.” Gun glanced at Gawin. “Or do you have any other ideas or strategies for this case, Fluke?”

“Do you have any additional information about all the bars he has?” Gawin looked at Gun in disbelief. “We need to know where and which bar is closest to him.”

Gun shifted the image with his remote and stared at the big screen in front of him. “Joss Wayar lives in a large and luxurious mansion near Khanom Beach, and at the back of the mansion there is a small pier that connects the mansion and Joss Wayar’s small island.”

Singto rounded his eyes wide ㅡ shocked. “Hell nah...”

“And not far from that beach is the only big bar in the area, and it belongs to hom.” Gun turned his head and looked at Gawin. “Do you have any idea what kind of strategy you want to use, Fluke?”

“Look ㅡ instead of me, P’Singto, and P’Krist entering the bar, it would be better for Fluke to enter the bar.” Boun pointed to Gawin. “Fluke has a tall ㅡ stocky posture with his typical American male face.”

Gun raised his eyebrows and squinted. “Then?”

“If Fluke went into Joss Wayar’ bar, then no one would suspect him. The guards there could think of him as a tourist and not a local who looks unable to get into the bar.”

Gawin immediately put on a confused face. “You want to make me a victim?”

Boun shook his head quickly, “Because your face is convincing as a person capable of entering a luxury bar, Fluke.”

“How, Fluke?” Gun folded his hands on the table. “We must immediately disassemble this case so that we can focus on other cases.”

Gawin took a breath and exhaled slowly while tapping his fingers on the table and looking seriously at Gun. He is not sure if he can carry out this mission, because dealing directly with the target is not his job.

“C’mon Fluke~” Krist nodded as he looked at Gawin, ”Only you are the best fit for that.”

Gawin took a deep breath, then exhaled slowly and nodded slowly. “Okay.”

Singto, Krist, and Boun breathed a sigh of relief. “Thank you, Fluke.”

“Alright.” Gun straightened up. “I will ask the security division to delete your databases before you all leave for Nakhon Si Thammarat.”

Gawin immediately raised his head with his arms crossed and closed his eyes ㅡ suddenly he felt very tired even though the mission hadn’t started yet, but for some reason this time it felt like death was very close, because he had to go down to carry out this case.

“Fuck you, Joss Wayar...” Gawin whispered ㅡ vengefully, “I hope death will touch your life first.”

Gawin opened his eyes slowly and stared at the ceiling of the meeting room ㅡ his hopes of living a peaceful life without touching death were now shattered because he had to handle Joss Wayar’s case ㅡ absolutely disgusting.

“Fluke, you can choose which facilities you want to stay at and use while in Nakhon Si Thammarat.” Gun shifted the image with his remote. “You can see the big screen in front of you.”

Gawin turned his head and stared at the big screen in front of him, then shook his head in disbelief that he, too ㅡ would end up using the DSI facility outside headquarters. He usually only sets the strategy and orders the other members who will carry out the mission so that the mission runs smoothly, and now ㅡ he also has to participate in the mission, not just set the strategy.

Joss Wayar’s case really tested his relationship with his Mom, because this time it would be more difficult for him or maybe he wouldn’t be able to return home to his Mom for a long time ㅡ how annoying!
