with the sun shining through her translucent curtains and right to her, cheng xiaoshi woke up to a bright glare. geez, what’s a girl gotta do to sleep in for once? she would just turn around and face the other way, but that wasn’t really an option right now. cheng xiaoshi couldn’t possibly move and both disrupt lu guang and stop cuddling her wonderful girlfriend.
so instead, she just put up with it, hoping that she could tolerate it enough to fall back asleep. but alas, she couldn’t. maybe she should just get her day started then-
“mmm… cheng xiaoshi?” a sleepy voice muttered. rubbing her eyes, lu guang looked up at her groggily, and the second their eyes met, she smiled. “good morning. how’d you sleep?”
“i slept fine,” cheng xiaoshi answered before letting out a loud yawn. “what about you?”
“i slept fine too,” lu guang replied, nuzzling into the crook of her girlfriend’s arms. god, just how much more adorable can she get? “are you gonna get up or sleep some more?”
“i wanna sleep in, but we also need to go grocery shopping. we’re out of tea and coffee.”
lu guang groaned. “can’t we go tomorrow?”
cheng xiaoshi chuckled. “i could since i only drink coffee in the morning, but you drink tea like, three times a day. i don’t think you can handle it.”
“i hate that you’re right,” lu guang groused. “ugh, ok, let’s get up then.”
with that, the two got out of bed, getting their day started. they brushed their teeth, washed their faces, and all that other morning-care stuff before heading downstairs. cheng xiaoshi started making their coffee, getting some extra sugar out for lu guang. it might not seem like it, but she has a secret sweet tooth, and cheng xiaoshi finds it absolutely adorable.
“where else do we need to go today?” lu guang asked as she began to make breakfast.
“um, nowhere, just the grocery store. why?”
“well, i thought it’d be nice if we went out for a bit afterwards.”
cheng xiaoshi’s ears perked up. “you mean, like a date?”
cracking some eggs, lu guang hummed and nodded. “yeah, we’ve been really busy lately, so we haven’t gone out in a while. we can do some shopping, walk around, get some takeout, and then watch our shows till we fall asleep. doesn’t that sound nice?”
man, cheng xiaoshi is so, so, so in love with her. “ye- yeah, that sounds great.”
lu guang giggled. “it’s a date then.”
the two went on with their tasks at hand in a comfortable silence, the pitchy chirping of the birds being all they could hear. nothing was needed to be said when all cheng xiaoshi needed was lu guang next to her every morning and every night.
once breakfast was ready, the two sat down on the couch and put on one of their comfort shows. curled up together, lu guang rested her head on cheng xiaoshi’s shoulder, and it was just so cute. everything she did was, and it took everything in cheng xiaoshi not to kiss her silly. well, maybe she’ll do that later, not when they’re peacefully eating breakfast.
afterwards, they headed back upstairs and got changed. cheng xiaoshi figured that maybe she should dress a little better than usual since they were going on their first date in a long time rather than just throwing on whatever was clean. so she opted for some black cargo pants, a tight t-shirt with a star graphic on it, and some silver jewelry.
“you ready yet?” cheng xiaoshi shouted from the bathroom as she brushed her hair. lu guang always did take a bit longer to get ready, but she didn’t mind. for her, she’d wait for all of eternity. adding some final touches to her makeup, cheng xiaoshi heard footsteps inching closer to her, which had to be none other than lu guang’s.
“you ready to go?-” cheng xiaoshi froze. in a black maxi-skirt with white lace details and a white tank top to match it, lu guang looked absolutely stunning. from her hair clipped up in a half-up half-down to the silver that complemented her outfit wonderfully, she was breathtaking. she always is, and cheng xiaoshi will always see her as nothing less than beautiful.
“wow,” she gasped, utterly speechless, “you look… amazing.”
her heart swelled, and she couldn’t take it anymore. practically jumping onto lu guang, cheng xiaoshi hugged her tightly, squeezing her with all the love in the world.
“ugh, you’re so pretty, i don’t want to go out anymore! i wanna keep you all to myself!”
lu guang rolled her eyes. “don’t be so dramatic, and let go of me. we need to get to the grocery store on time for all their morning deals.”
“fine…” reluctantly, cheng xiaoshi did as she was told before smoothing out lu guang’s outfit and kissing her cheek. “you look beautiful, lu guang. you are beautiful.”
lu guang didn’t respond, but she didn’t need to when her lovestruck smile and red blush did all the talking. cheng xiaoshi will always hate waking up early for the rest of her life. all she wanted to do was sleep in and get a much needed break. but times like these with lu guang, whether or not they’re going out, make mornings all the better.
she hopes that she’ll get to spend every morning with her lovely girlfriend for the rest of her life.
