Chapter Text
She was nervous. Arizona was never really nervous. Sure, she had some authority issues, she was also nervous when she applied for med school, when she dated her first girlfriend and when she had to come out to her family. Actually, she used to get nervous a lot, but in recent years it had passed away, that feeling of nausea, the flipping of her stomach, the trembling and the sweating.
But now?
Oh, now she really was nervous. The thing is, she wanted a favour, a sex favour to be exact, a favour she wasn't sure would be accepted by the person she wanted to ask.
She paced around at home, she thought about it in the shower, during breakfast, while driving, and sometimes even in surgery. She was thinking about it a lot.
April knew she had a small crush on a girl from the hospital and with a lot of looking around and observing, she got it down to 3 people: a nurse by the name of Autumn, a cute red-head anaesthesiologist who started working in Grey-Sloan a few months ago and Amelia Shepherd.
April also asked Alex about it, back when he didn't know, back when Arizona hadn't said it accidentally in frustration to how Owen was treating Amelia, so back then he just told April to keep an eye on the blonde, because she might need help with it and the romantic side of things was not his thing.
He was a good friend to Arizona, a great friend even. They cared a lot about each other, you could even say he saw her as his older sister, who would put some sense in his stupid head when it was needed. As much as they loved and cared about one another, he could be there to push her limits, to help her make big decisions, to support her and she was there to guide him, to show him someone cared and someone loved him and to help with an occasional dilemma between him and Jo, they were both protective of each other.
But April was the one who could help Arizona with the latter, she was there to listen to her problems and give her actual solutions, whereas Alex would say, "Grow some balls, Robbins and just ask her out." So Alex knew, but he didn't say anything to April after that, it wasn't his place after all. April wasn't going to give up, though, she had to know, she had to help.
April was sitting on the couch in the attendings' room when the blonde came in. She turned on the couch, coffee cup in hand and saw her plopping down on the chair a few meters away, clearly tired.
"Come on, Arizona...You have to tell me who it is, please." April was giving her a small smile while she said it.
"What, not even a single 'Hello'?", the blonde said sarcastically, but still light-hearted. She knew April meant well, "What is it with you and trying to figure it out?"
"If you weren't so stubborn and just told me who you were crushing on, I wouldn't ask so many times." April was smirking a little when she said that looking at Arizona who just gave her a small smile, "Is it Autumn, the nurse from the ER? She is cute, but I don't think she is for you. But if it's her I totally support you.", she said quickly, while staring at Arizona to see how she will react.
"Nope, it's not her, I don't even know who she is." she laughed at the last part.
"Oh, then it's L-", she got interrupted before she could finish the name by the door being angrily pushed open by an angry neurosurgeon. Both women jumped a little at the intrusion and looked to the door to see Amelia fuming and scowling. She sighed angrily and sat down across from Arizona, who seemed to have lost the ability to speak. April noticed the change in the peds surgeon's face and body language and quickly turned to Amelia again.
"You ok, Shepherd?" It was a simple question, but she still said it slowly and with concern on her face.
"How can people be so fucking stupid? Seriously, how can you look someone in the eyes and act like a saint when you are just some stupid man who thinks only about himself? And on top of that, a patient who was doing well in post op just had a stroke and died. I hate this day, I hate this hospital and I certainly hate men. Stupid, insecure men." The brunette was waving her hands in the air as she spoke loudly and very angrily, "This day has been too long..." She finally sighed under her breath and leaned back in her chair, throwing her head back and crossing her arms over her chest.
April saw everything the blonde did. Arizona could only stare at Amelia, her eyes moved from her lips while she was talking, they lingered for a bit there and slowly moved down her neck and traced every inch of exposed skin when Amelia threw her head back and then started going lower-
"I guess this is about Owen, so I am not going to comment much on that. He can be a real pain in the ass relationship-wise, but he is a great friend, really. And maybe if you try to be friends instead of lovers, it will be easier?" April said calmly, also trying not to piss off Arizona by the discussion about Owen, but she also wanted to comfort Amelia, clearly she was having a rough day, "I am sorry about your patient, too. This job can be hard some days. There are times when we lose more than we save, but...at the end of the day, there are hundreds of lives we have saved as doctors, which is what matters the most, don't you think?"
Amelia breathed through her nose heavily and brought her head back up. Arizona, still staring at her, snapped right out of it and got up to pour herself some water. April was still looking at the blonde and how weird and obvious she was when Amelia spoke again. "Yeah, maybe you are right", she sighed again, more relaxed this time, "I should go, thank you though, I know Owen is your friend, but he is a fucking idiot." she said, standing up and giving April a small smile, which she returned and exited the room.
"Oh, my...it's Amelia!! You have a crush on Amelia, oh my God!" April loudly whispered from the couch. The blonde, in return, scrunched up her nose and leaned forward on the kitchen counter in the attendings lounge, holding herself up with her hands and exhaled.
"Okay, maybe I do, but it's nothing, alright? It's going to pass and life will move on." she pushed herself off the counter and turned around to walk out the door.
"Oh come on, you practically undressed her and eye fucked her right in front of me just now!" April said in a mocking tone, trying to tease the older woman.
"Wow, April, I didn't know you could use such words as 'fuck'." she joked and smiled softly at April, who just smirked and gave her a knowing look.
A few days had passed since the last time she saw Amelia when she was with April, so she decided that now was the time.
The favour in question, the sex favour, had nothing to do with her crush on Amelia. Well, maybe a little, but that's not important.
She and Callie were done for, they were divorced and now she was alone. She needed the intimacy of having sex with someone. Yeah, sure, getting an orgasm alone was still good, but not good enough, she needed a person.
There were a few women she picked up in bars, she had game and she was hot and very beautiful, but there was a need for someone she knew, someone she trusted.
She couldn't ask April for obvious reasons, nor Jo, although Alex would have been thrilled to see it, but that was not an option. Meredith was out of the question and she thought about Teddy once. They were friends and she knew about her crush on Amelia now and from back at Hopkins, she would also say yes, but she decided not to, so the only person left was Amelia.
Amelia, who had her weird sex thing with Owen going on, but apparently, things were not going well at all.
So there she was, in front of Amelia's office in the hospital, thinking hard on what to say when she goes in and what to do if Amelia says no, kicks her out, or laughs in her face or all three at the same time.
Nervous, nauseous and with trembling hands. She wasn't sure what to expect. Maybe she should have talked with April about it so they could come up with a proper solution or at least she could ask Owen about his feelings and intentions for Amelia to make sure the terrain is free. Or maybe she should have talked with Alex and he would have just pushed her to do it and make her think clearly again. Or even Teddy, she knew what to do in these situations and she knew Owen better than anyone else. She would be able to tell her if Owen was serious about Amelia or not.
There was still time to back out and turn around, but she had to do it.
'Come on, Arizona. Amelia is crazy enough to say yes, you just have to present the idea properly. You can do this.' she said to herself two or three times.
With her hand trembling a little, she knocked on the door of Amelia's office and waited for an answer.
