Work Text:

You’ve had discovered Henry’s fear of heights over time. The time when you had a theme park date, you practically begged him to get on the ferris wheel with you to see the beautiful sunset from above. How could he ever say no to you?

You felt that he was nervous, Henry kept on asking the staff about how safe the ride is, were there any casualties ever before and so on. But I mean, everyone questions the ride’s safety here and there right?

Wrong.

Seated across each other, you see Henry gripping tightly on both sides of his side of the ferris wheel cabin. He tries to keep a cool facade, but you can see him sweating despite the cool weather.

“Are you okay?” You managed to ask, shifting in your seat which results for the cabin to slightly sway.

Henry answers stiffly, “Fine. It’s totally fine. Somewhat.”

You examine him for a while, then glancing over to the view under. Looking at him straight in the eye, “Are you… afraid of heights?”

Your voice might’ve accidentally sound like you were judging him but in all honesty you were curious. Henry lets out a deep sigh, “Is it wrong to have a fear of falling from, I don’t know, how tall is this ferris wheel again? You know what, I don’t want an answer to that, it’ll just creep me out more.”

His knuckles are now white, clearly holding onto his life. “You should’ve just told me before.” Getting up from your seat, you move to sit beside him. Letting go one of his hands from the other side of his cabin seat for you to sit down, Henry clenched his now free hand into a fist.

Taking his hand in yours, you give him a comforting smile. “Don’t look down, just keep your eyes on me. But at the same time, I don’t want you to miss out on this view.” You chuckled lightly.

Without even realizing it, the cabin had reached the top of the ferris wheel, getting the beautiful view for you and Henry’s eyes to see.

You both stare at the sunset unfolding in the sky. Turning the atmosphere into a pretty blue and orange gradient where purple meets in the midst.

Henry swears that he sees you gaping at the view, you’re so precious to the point that he will get on as many ferris wheels as he can as long as it means he can see your cute face like that again.

He looks forward to that next time.

But instead of ferris wheels, his ‘next time’ of facing heights was cliff climbing to get a final sample of a dinosaur egg. Henry, Zora, LeClerc and you were tasked to retrieve the sample while Duncan and Martin stayed behind.

Getting into the Quetzalcoatlus’ nest was easy. Getting out was not. The syringe filled sample got out of Henry’s hands, dropping to the ground. Zora was doing her best to distract the angry mom while you tried to grab the syringe without the stupid dinosaur stepping on your hands.

Not long after, LeClerc helped to get the dinosaur out of its nest as a distraction. Then while Henry was trying to grab the syringe that slipped, you and zora held onto his rope with all your might.

“It’s going to snap!” Zora exclaimed as Henry moved to grab the syringe sample. Anymore big movements from him could lead to the rope snapping. “Henry stop fucking moving!” You yelled.

Moving to the closer edge of the cliff, you see him dangling and trying to get the syringe back into his hands. Keeping your hands steady on his rope, Henry finally catches the syringe and you suddenly hear a beeping noise.

“Oh for fuck’s sake.” The syringe flies from his grip and expands a small parachute. Just seconds after, you hear his rope snap. You panic, “Henry, grab my hand!”

Stretching out your hand, Henry tries to balance his upper body on the rock he’s on. When his arm stretched out to your, the rock breaks and he falls.

Screaming out his name, Zora runs to your side. “Let’s go down to see if he’s alright, yeah?” She rubs your shoulder in a comforting way.

You have never gotten down from a cliff that fast before ever in your life. It almost felt like a free fall on how fast you were going down.

But then you see him, on the ground, groaning. You let out a breath that you didn’t even realize you were holding, thankful that Henry’s alive.

Running up to him, you kneel by his side. “You okay?”
He blinks at you and winces, “You think?”

You stifled a giggle. From the corner of your eye you see a certain syringe barrel floating down from the sky with a parachute. You and Henry sighed in sync.

Letting your head rest on his chest, you listen to his heartbeat to prove that he’s really alive. “I’m never letting you anywhere near heights again.” Closing your eyes, you whisper loud enough for him to hear.

“Atleast not in an island full of dinosaurs without any safety precautions.” Henry lifts his hand to your head, caressing your hair.

Hearing the others footsteps makes you stand up. “Can you move?” You ask Henry while lending him a hand.

He groans from the pain of trying to move abruptly, you cringe at the sight of him in so much pain. If you could guess it was about approximately a 30 feet fall from the cliff.

Henry relaxed his body for a moment on Zora’s orders. She claimed that it was appropriate to take a break for a few minutes while we wait for Henry to be stable enough to get up.

Sitting on a rock beside him, you hold his hand. “Don’t ever scare me like that ever again.”

He gives you a sad smile, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to.”

Shaking your head, you squeeze his hand. “Don’t apologize. I’m just glad you’re okay.”

“Maybe a few broken bones here and there. But we can fix it once we get out of here.”

But will you even get out of here? There were so many risks and danger on this island. Maybe you’re never gonna get out at all. What if nobody finds you? What happens when the rescue team fails? What happens then?

Henry’s hand cupped your cheek, startling you. “We’re going to make it out alive, together.”

His gaze deep into your eyes that was once filled with worry and doubt is now filled with the tiniest spark of hope.

“Yeah, we’re going to make it out.”
