Work Text:
Miu exchanged a look with Saki before looking forward again.
“Um… are you okay?”
“Oh, yeah, sure. I just wonder - what does this have to do with polluting the earth?”
Renn was a woman now.
Got hit by something by a Banki, and now he was sitting there pulling on his way too tight shirt, and seemed entirely undisturbed by what happened.
“Uh— Renn—” Sousuke looked at Renn, confused. “What is going to happen now?”
“Just— the usual. Have to fight the Banki when it shows back up.”
“We can’t stay like this, Renn!” Saki chimed up, jumping closer. “We should go shopping”
“Oh, that’s be great. I was always curious about the logistics of feminine clothes shopping.”
“Always curious?” Sousuke tilted his head to the side.
“I don’t think it’s any more complicated than shopping for clothes otherwise,” Hant also looked completely baffled, but Renn just bounced forward.
“Saki! Miu! Would you accompany me and help me? Oh! And to make things simpler - I feel you should refer to me as a woman. It would cause less problems.”
He— no she, she asked to be called that, she looked like all of this was very normal. So Miu nodded, walking over and linked her arms with Renn’s.
“But we cannot call you Renn. How about Rena? Miss Rena~?”
“Ah that’s— that works until this lasts. Yes.”
Saki also bounced to Rena’s other side, linking her arms together on the other side.
“You guys figure out what to do with the Banki. We are taking Rena shopping.”
Rena is very energetic - while Saki and Miu both typically wear practical clothes, neither of them have much of a problem having her look through multiple outfits.
Rena liked loose clothes, flowy skirts and still sticks to blue because of course she does. She also finds a hat with flowers on, and she stops, staring at it.
“What’s wrong, Rena?” Miu asked, unsure, and Rena shook her head.
“This is too expensive.”
“It’s okay, it’s okay. Miu did say she is paying for your outfits! And they are rich!”
“Saki, stop offering my money too much!”
“You offered it first!”
“I wouldn’t want to impose too much,” Rena interrupted their bickering, her eyes fixed on the hat. “It just feels like a waste, especially as— I won’t really be able to wear these outfits again after defeating the Banki.”
There was a shade of… something in Rena’s voice.
Was it—
Saki and Miu exchanged a look, and Miu grabbed the hat out of Rena’s hand, pushing it into her head.
“Come on. Don’t be like this. Let’s just enjoy buying whatever you need to buy.”
And Rena smiled.
Rena’s smile was really pretty.
“This isn’t really practical. I understand why you don’t wear clothes like this a lot.”
She was sitting in the back of Ginjiro, crossing her legs, her dress falling to the side, and everyone was kind of staring.
“If someone is a good fighter, it doesn’t matter what they wear,” Hiroto muttered, he clearly was trying not to stare. Or at least pretending he wasn’t.
He wasn’t pretending very well.
“Maybe,” Rena nodded. “But it’s mostly— doing repairs on the Engines and our equipment… it would just ruin these clothes wouldn’t it?”
Rena’s hair was a bit longer after being hit - only to her chin, but it was very much longer, and she put her hair behind her ear nervously.
And then Hant bounced closer, throwing a hand around her shoulder, beaming at him.
“Don’t worry about it, Rena! Miu and Hiroto would surely treat you well and buy you more!”
“Hey–”
“Now wait—”
“Exactly!” Gunpei agreed, walking to Rena’s other side. “It’s only chivalrous isn’t it, to treat a classy lady right. You are some kind of a heiress to begin with aren’t you? It only fits you! It’s only proper isn’t it, especially as they had good education doubtlessly with their upbringing.”
Rena’s eyes darted between Hant and Gunpei before looking over to Sousuke, who had been quite quiet for now.
And then a big grin grew on Sousuke’s grin, and he rubbed his nose with that oddly charming habit of his.
“This is absolutely great! You really are the prettiest here now, aren’t you?”
“What do you even mean?!”
Saki was the one who pulled on Sousuke’s ear, making him yelp and verbally backpedal, while Miu turned away, sulking.
And while Sousuke insisted that is not what he meant, it’s jut he never saw their Blue like this and it’s a lot, and please Saki have mercy you are pretty, you are very pretty, Rena smiled to himself, looking down, a small blush on her face.
Then BOMPER had to break the mood.
When the Banki came back, Rena left her hat in Ginjiro, and put on her Go-Onger jacket over her shirt, but left her dress on, as she walked out to fight.
And of course, they won, and then—
…
Renn was still wearing Rena’s clothes when they won, and he was quiet, before he sighed, and nodded.
“Well, then. It’s over. I’ll go change.”
And with that, he just walked back to Ginjiro.
The rest of them exchanged looks, before following him - and there he was, standing in the back of Ginjiro, holding the fancy hat in his hands and—
…no, it was wrong, wasn’t it? Thinking that felt somehow wrong now.
“This skirt and shirt might have gotten too ripped now, probably can’t take it back to the store. It’s all the fighting. But this hat, you can probably take back and get money back for it—”
Miu reached out, pushing the hat back to Renn’s chest.
“Keep it.”
“But—”
“You liked being Rena, didn’t you? And not like Hant with his crossdressing. I don’t think he’d like being a woman.”
“It sounds like a nightmare for me,” Hant agreed, scratching the back of his head. “But you look really pretty as Rena!”
And Renn smiled, looking at the hat, fingers curling over the ribbon that was decorating it.
“Just — this is just a hat.”
“A hat that looked very pretty on you.”
And with that, Renn just put the hat back on, her smile not disappearing.
“You didn’t seem very happy about the name Rena, though.”
“Ah, no, that’s not it. I think I do like the ring of it.”
And with that, Rena stood back up, walking to the kitchen area.
“Are you two staying for dinner? You better be,” She asked the Wings, who rolled their eyes a little.
“We got things to do,” Hiroto said, and Rena just tutted.
“Don’t argue with Mother. Don’t let them leave.”
And just as she asked for, the rest of them pretty much crowded the siblings, dragging them deeper into Ginjiro.
There was really no escaping dinner, once Mother decided she was going to treat everyone.
