The stars shone bright through the trees of the forest as Tav sat by the small fire that burned in the middle of the small tents. The children that her and Halsin had taken in and build this little life with were all sound asleep in their own tents making the surroundings a comfortable quiet. She poked the fire with a long stick as she saw they had started to burn out. She stared up at the moon that had just made her appearance out of the clouds and its light bled across the grass.
She Jumped a little as a large hand touched her shoulder, before a gruff, hearty chuckle made her relax and turn her head. “Oh, my love” she said softly as she looked up art Halsin with a smile. He returned it with an equally wide grin that made her insides feel all gooey inside. “Are they all rested?” he asked as he stroked her hair back so that it was out of her face, she nodded “they have been restless over the last few days especially with the party and us being away”. He laughed and nodded “they are definitely a handful…but nothing we cannot handle”.
She sighed softly and watched him leaned down before finally sitting down next to her on the tree stump. She leaned in and laid her head on his shoulder before pressed a gentle kiss on it. “These last few days have been wonderful…now we get to live our life in peace without the means of curses or tadpoles or…anything else horrible”. Halsin laughed deeply and pulled her onto his lap by her waist, “I agree my heart…I enjoy the peace but…we may not get anymore quiet with the children”. Tav let out a giggle and nodded before turning her head to face his and rubbing her nose against his cheekily.
“They are quite something…but we are their safe haven, and I am more than happy to sacrifice quiet to give them a safe and happy childhood.” She said softly as her head leaned against his broad chest. “I love you…” she sighed before looking up at him. Her eyes met his and saw them crinkle as he smiled, the way she loved. “And I you” Halsin said softly as she felt him pick her up bridal style and walk over to their tent. “Time to get some sleep I think, another fun filled day tomorrow I bet”. Tav let out a quiet laugh and relaxed in his arms.
The tent they both shared was only a little bit bigger than the children’s ones but was filled with pillows and blankets and furs making it a soft plush space to relax. There was a little pile of books that she loved to read and half done wooden statues that he was whittling for the children, little ducks and rabbits and even a little bear. She stretched her limbs as he placed her down on the soft furs and loved how nice it felt against her skin.
Halsin smiled as he kneeled and pulled her shoes off before giving the top of each of her feet a small kiss before letting go and taking his own shoes off with a sigh. “Do your feet hurt at all, love?” he said with a slightly concerned smile of his face. She smiled and shook her head “no they feel fine, I’ve not been on my feet too much these last few days, but I could always use a massage on them if you are kindly offering?”. Tav gave him a sly grin and pointed her toes out for him.
Halsin rolled his eyes and chuckled in that way that made her spine tingle and took her feet onto his lap and rolled the ball of her foot with his thumb and she let out a soft whimper as the tension, she didn’t even know she had, leave the muscles off her feet. “You really do have magical hands…even without your spells.” He grinned and chuckled before shrugging “you might be right”.
Tav smiled and made small little grabby hands towards him and grinned as he laid down next to her but kept himself up a little bit with an elbow. She gently reached up and ran a hand through his hair as she stared up at his eyes. Her fingers made their way to the red pattern that swirled around the side of his face and he let out a shaky sigh and kissed the pulse of her wrist so softly she almost didn’t feel it.
