Work Text:

She got on top of him, choking him. He struggles under her, her hold only getting tighter.
“I hate you.”, it sounded drained of life. “I hate you.”, it sounded loud. “I hate you.”, it sounded full of anger. “I hate you.”, full of disappointment. “I hate you.”, full of hurt. “I hate you.”, it was said softly. He stopped struggling after the second one. His vision was fading, his voice raspy, though he replied. “I know.” Suddenly a drop fell onto his face, the cold water burning against his fevered skin. Then another one. He looked up, she was crying, her grip loosened. She stared down at him as if trying to register what was happening, what was she even feeling. More tears fell down her face and onto him. Without warning, his hand reached up to her and wiped away her tears. “You’re…crying.”
“Am I?”, for the first time in a long time, her voice had emotion.
Slowly, his other hand reached up, both his hands now cupping her face, wiping her tears away. “Yeah…you are. You’re actually crying.”
“…I hate you. I hate you so much.”
His thumb traces under her eye, catching another tear. “You already said that.” His voice sounded raw, either from the choking or the underlying emotion he felt. Maybe both. “Over and over again you said it.” Despite the words sounding harsh, he said it softly and his touch remained gentle.
“I’m sorry.” She whispered, almost confused as to why she said it. But the tears kept coming even though she didn’t fully understand why.
“For what, choking me?”, he said softly, still wiping her tears away with his hands.
Her grip around his neck tightened for a second before loosening. Her hands now just there as if she was trying to understand what she was feeling. “No…I don’t know why.”
He searched her eyes before his hands dropped to her shoulders, holding too loose for it to be a firm grip but too tight for it to be him letting go. It was comfort in one simple touch.
He whispers softly. “It’s okay…you don’t have to know why.”
“But I want to know why!”, she yells. Her breathing shaky, almost afraid.
“You don’t need to know right now. What matters is that you’re feeling something.” His grip on her shoulders tightens.
“…but what if I never feel it again? What if this last feeling I feel with you, will be nothing but pain?”
“And what if your next feeling is happiness? Or warmth? Or something as gentle as the clouds?” He cups her face again, his eyes softened looking into hers.
“At least you feel something, even if it is pain. That’s more than you’ve felt for the last year.”
“I want this feeling to be happy! I want this to be happy! I want us to be happy. I don’t want another feeling, I don’t want to let go of this.” She cups his face, tears falling again.
His eyes widened slightly at her words. His heart pounding in his chest as he leans into her touch.
“I-“
As soon as the moment happened, it ended. She was pulled off of him, the warmth disappearing as soon as it came. She puts up the fight, struggling as two guards pull her back. He stared almost startled by the sudden change before he stands upright. He takes a step forward and immediately another guard grabs him.
“Akira, I would recommend you don’t move, unless you want to make a bigger mess of things.”
Akira clicks his tongue before looking at her, she struggles the more she is pulled away from him.
“Please! Don’t make me forget! Please! Don’t leave, Akira!”
Akira’s heart dropped, he yanks himself forward, only to be pulled back but it doesn’t stop him from yelling.
“Tara!”

“Tell me it’s not true, Akira.”
.
“Akira.”
.
“Akira, please.”
.
“Akira!”
.
“Akira, please! D̶o̶n̶t̶ l̶e̶a̶v̶e̶ m̶e̶"

.

Akira shot up from his bed in the cold sweat. He rubs his head as his breathing slowly goes steady. He curses under his breath before getting up. He walks to his desk and sits down, staring at the paper from last night.

𝒟ℯ𝒶𝓇 𝒯𝒶𝓇𝒶

He picks up the ink pen and hovers it over the paper. For the first couple of minutes, nothing happens. Haunting silence fills the room as Akira’s hand hovers over the paper. After 5 minutes, he puts the pen back down. He puts his head in his hands and lets out a shaky exhale. He then gets up and gets ready.

“Akira.”
.
“Akira!”
.
Akira’s eyes snap back up at Soren, who is staring at him while he sips on his drink.
“You alright?”
“Yeah. Yeah, I’m okay.”
“…right. Anyways, I was saying I think we should go to the fair. I heard it’s ten times more exciting than the one from last year.”
“Mhm.”, Akira picks at his food. Soren looks down at Akira’s food and then back up at Akira.
“Okay, what’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Pfft- Don’t give me that shit. You know, we don’t have to hangout.”
“No, I want to. Let’s just get going.”
Akira wipes his hand on a napkin before asking for the check. Soren sighs before wiping his hands as-well.
🅣🅘🅜🅔🅢🅚🅘🅟
Akira’s feet hurt so much. They have been walking around for hours. Everything Soren saw he ran towards it, making this hangout feel more like a babysitting job. He was about to run after Soren again when he smelled something. Something too familiar.

𝑻𝒂𝒓𝒂.

Akira turns around, his breathing heavy even though he barely moved. Nothing. There was nothing there. His hands clenched into fists, his skin ran cold, and he felt his vision start to blur. He needs to get out of here. Without thinking, he ran. Ran as fast as he could.

“Akira.”

Run.

“Akira.”

Don’t stop.

“Akira!”

She isn’t here.

“Akira!”

It’s not her.

He slowed down before coming to a stop. He lets out a shaky breath as he feels his eyes water. He looks around, where was he? He’s at a park. The sky was a mixed of orange and pink, the clouds looking like cotton candy. There was a picnic table and a big tree that casts over the table. Yellow flowers surrounding the tree. He takes in the scene before walking over to the tree and sitting down under it. His knees go almost to his chest and he wraps his arms around his knees. He closed his eyes and started to take deep breaths.

“Akira!”

Ignore it.

“Akira.”

It’s not real.

“Akira!” Hands grasped his shoulders and he lets out a gasp, immediately grasping the person’s wrists.

“Wow, wow, Akira, it’s me, Soren!”, Akira stares at Soren for a couple of seconds before letting go.

“What the fuck, man?!”
“I’m sorry! You weren’t answering me! Plus, you ran away, I was worried.”
.
“Sorry, I’ve just been stressed.”
“…this is about Tara, isn’t it?”

Akira’s body shudders at the name, like he couldn’t help but tense up. Soren sighs before sitting down with Akira.

“Look, Akira, it wasn’t your fault. It’s not your fault she died. You shouldn’t be dwelling on the past, you survived that crazy institution. You deserve peace. I don’t think Tara would like to see you like this.”
.
.
“Soren, there’s something I haven’t told you.”

🌌 𝒟ℯ𝒶𝓇 𝒯𝒶𝓇𝒶 🌌
“The sight is amazing, right!?”, Tara exclaimed, soaring through the sky. Her hair finally loose as her butterfly wings soar through the sky. “I don’t know why you don’t fly at night more often!”

Akira scoffs, his owl wings flapping behind him. “Because if someone catches us, this night flight will turn into a massacre.”

“Ugh! You’re no fun! Lighten up!” Tara soars backwards, laying on her back as if she was swimming. “Look at the beautiful stars.”

“Yeah, so beautiful.”, Akira never broke his stare from Tara.

“Akira?”

“Yes, Tara.”

“Promise me something.”

“What is it?”

“Promise me…that we’ll forever be together. That no matter what happens, you’ll never forget me.”

“Forget you? Oh Tara, that’s impossible. Even if we are galaxies apart, I would never even stop thinking about you.”

“…Akira.”

“Yes?”

“…I forgive you.”

“…what.”

“I did this for us! I did this so we could have hopes, desires, dreams! I did this all for us!”
“You didn’t do this for us. You did it because you didn’t want to suffer alone.”
“Don’t act like you wouldn’t have done the same thing if you were in my position, Tara.”
“Akira. I would have never-…I would have never done this to you. Not to anyone.”
“Why?! You could have everything!-“
“I did have everything! I had you!”
Tara scoffs, looking away for a second, shaking her head as if she couldn’t believe this was happening. She looks back at Akira, speaking with battered breath. “I had dreams I never once understood. I have always felt empty until I meet you. Once I…lost everyone, and when you left, my dreams left with it. My hope carried on, so I spent the rest of my life searching for you. My desire was to find you and now I have. I just…never thought it would be like this. That everything would change. Maybe that was my fault. My dream was never freedom, it was just all of us. All of us chilling by the fireplace once last time.”
“…you would have done the same thing.”
“Akira, I would have given up my own wings just for you to soar the clouds safely.”
Akira.
“Akira.”
“Akira!”
“I love you, Akira.”
“I hate you, Akira.”
“Akira, I would have given up my own wings just for you to soar the clouds safely.”
“Doesn’t the view look beautiful, Akira?”
“I’m sorry, Akira.”
“I forgive you, Akira.”
“Akira?”
“Akira…”
“Akira, please!”
“Akira, you…feel so familiar.”
“Akira, please! Don’t make me forget again!”
“Akira, don’t leave me!”
