Power came from strength, of course, and Aldrich had proved time and time again he could man-handle Matthias into submission, pin the beautiful boy beneath him and do as he pleased. But the more enticing form of power, one that Matthias barely had a shred of, was the power of rank. In their culture, Aldrich was one of the highest ranking men around, his stature and prominence letting him get away with far too much.
Like being able to treat Matthias a nobody - as his own personal plaything.
Whether it be by his strength of the innate arcane ability deep inside him, Aldrich could overpower Matthias with ease. But he loved just as much to dominate him by words and thoughts alone. Let his pet know just how useless fighting back was. Make him see how futile resistance is. The best part was, Matthias knew this. Oh, he could fight back and claw and scratch… to an extent. But if Aldrich got tired of his defiance, all he had to say was “Kneel or I’ll throw you back to the wolves you crawled away from” and Matthias would have no choice but to kneel. He couldn’t go back - it would be death, for him and his younger brother. Aldrich was salvation. Aldrich was protection.
Aldrich was a monster that Matthias lived to serve.
