Maybe my soulmate died

Summary:

Himiko was born without a soulmark.

But one day she meets an odd girl that walks her home in the rain. Himiko decides to ask if she wants to come in, even if it won't mean anything, and the auburn haired girl says yes.

Notes:

I might do something else with this or make another longer version someday.

I got inspired by this song with the same name

Work Text:

“Himiko, where's your mark?” All the girls in class look at her and stare at the young blonde girl sitting at the back of class. It makes her uncomfortable and she has to look away.

“I don't have one”

“Huh?” one of the girls frowns in confusion at her while the red head next to her rolls her eyes.

“Of course you do, everybody does Himiko” those words sting and make her eyes water.

“Then maybe my soulmate died already” She gets up to go to the bathroom while the other girls give her hushed remarks behind her back.

“Oh, that's so sad”

“Poor Himiko”

“That must be so lonely”

She ignores them and exits the classroom before going to the bathroom to stare at her reflection, and her perfect unmarked skin that tells her she will always be alone.

As she goes through the aisles Himiko looks for something that catches her eye, but there's almost nothing. So instead she goes to the next aisle to pick up a few onigiri and a cheap drink.

She pays at the register and tells the cashier to keep the change. But when she steps out the door the smell of petrichor and sound of rain flooding the streets fill the air.

Himiko lets out a heavy sigh and is about to step into the rain, but the sudden sound of something popping up and overshadowing her draws her attention.

“Huh?” She turns around and sees a girl her age holding up an umbrella for her.

“Need an umbrella?”

She avoids looking at them directly, and nods.

“Well you can take mine, I have a spare” The other girl holds out the umbrella for her, and she hesitantly takes it.

“Thank you,” The other girl gives her a warm smile that makes Himiko's eyes flick away from her. She can feel herself already getting attached to them because of their kindness.

I fall in love too easily. But no one wants to do the same with her.

She begins to step out into the rain and leave the other girl behind. She doesn't want to bother remembering what they look like. It's not like they are going to ever see each other again.

But when she doesn't hear the other girl leave or open another umbrella she turns around to look at her. That girl is just standing there and looking at the rain and clouds with a smile on her face, like she's content with what she did.

She doesn't have another umbrella.

It's none of my business.

Himiko, takes another step to leave and forget all about her. But she stops and sighs before turning around and walks back to that kind girl. She gets a confused look from that dark eyed girl when she holds out the umbrella for her to get under.

“You were lying about having another umbrella weren't you?” The other girl doesn't answer for a moment before nodding.

“It's fine, it should let up soon” Himiko looks over at the other girl who obviously knows that isn't true.

“You could just walk me home so we can share it,” There's a brief silence between them as all they hear is a pitter patter of rain. When the other girl nods it makes her heart feel a bit lighter.

“Okay, where do you live?” She doesn't ask for her name, probably because she wants them to stay strangers.

“A few blocks away from here, it's not that far” The other Auburn haired girl smiles at her before nodding and gets under the umbrella with her.

This reminds her of all those trope ridden scenes in the shojo manga she would read. Where the protagonist and love interest would share an umbrella and forced to be close together.

But this isn't one.

Himiko and her remain quiet as they both walk through the rain together for a while until they reach a bus stop. She can see the other girls gaze lingering on it for a moment, one that tells her what the other girl wants to do, but strangely she doesn't say anything as they pass by it.

She was expecting her to try and leave any chance she got, but didn't.

That small choice makes her chest feel warm. Her eyes flick to her pink cheeks, ones that make her regret how easily she falls for others.

When they finally arrive at her place after a few minutes Himiko stares at the front door and thinks about the girl next to her, a kind and beautiful girl. One that walked her home.

She decides to take a risk. One that is going to hurt her, just like everyone else when they find out she doesn't have a mark.

“Would you like to come in?” She knows that this girl probably has a soulmate already and doesn't want to, but they're nice and maybe she can be a passing thought for just a moment to them.

Maybe for one night she doesn't have to go to bed cold again.

“Oh, um, I—” The way she nervously scratches at the back of her head tells her that thought was to good to be true.

It was too good to get my hopes up.

“Y-yes, I'd like to” but when she hears those words they make her heart flutter. Nobody has ever said yes to her before.

Himiko smiles and pulls a key from her pocket to unlock the door.

Thank you” She whispers quietly to herself as the door opens, and not even a full minute later they are tearing off each other's clothes as their lips smash against each other's. They fall back into bed together and the feeling of this girl's skin against her own warms her heart and fans her desire.

Then after she takes her panties off those fingers press inside of her and pulls a moan out of her. The pleasure makes her feel drunk and she bites at the stranger's neck to taste her blood.

“More~” The whimper she gets back is lovely and the eagerness of this other girl for her to do it again is perfect.

Her hand runs against the back of the kind stranger's neck and the feeling of her soulmate mark makes this perfect moment taste bitter.

“You're so beautiful." But the kisses to her pulse and those sweet nothings spoken make her heart melt. Himiko can't stop from wanting more of her, even if this girl isn't meant to be with her.

With every bite and nip across her bruising flesh Himiko can feel herself getting closer to her climax and it's bitter sweet because that means what they have will end soon.

I don't want it to end

“You're so cute, I love your eyes” but those words and every kiss and lick against her fangs makes her want more from her, from this girl who can't belong to her.

Because she wasn't born like everyone else.

But when that girls next bite breaks skin Himiko cries and sobs as the other girl gives her blood a small lick before pulling away.

“You okay? That wasn't too much right?” This time she actually looks at the girl in front of her with blood stained teeth. Those brown eyes that look at her lovingly and that auburn hair framing her face perfectly.

Her eyes water from the desire and affection coming off of the other girl. She can't resist pulling her back down into a kiss.

“Yes, I'm fine, just don't stop, not tonight, I want everything you have to give me”

I just wish you were mine so I could keep it all.

But at least she can hold her for the night, just one night, and the way this cute stranger makes her come undone makes her do everything to make sure this is a perfect night for the both of them.

Every touch, kiss, press and scrape of teeth, bruising suck is given like they are soulmates.

Even if it all means nothing in the end, because she isn't hers, and never will be..

Never.

But when they lie in bed together exhausted and about to fall asleep this stranger says something that only a mad person would do.

“Can we, can this not be a one night stand?” Himiko looks incredulously at the other girl, because why would she want to be with someone like her.

“But what and your mark?”

“I don't care if it's not you on my neck, I want to spend more time with you” That auburn haired girl looks away from her before smiling.

“I….I had fun with you tonight and I don't want that to end if you don't want it to either” Himiko can only stare at the odd girl who would give up the possibility of their soulmate for her. “I think you're a lovely person and I hope you feel the same, if not I understand” Himiko tucks a few strands of the messy hair sticking to the strange girl's sweaty skin.

“Okay, it doesn't have to be just for one night.” the strange girl smiles happily as her eyes begin to close.

“Thank you”

She still hasn't asked for my name.

Then they finally fall asleep until morning comes, and when Himiko wakes up first she finds the strange girl sleeping and facing away from her.

She must have moved in her sleep

Himiko decides to run a hand against that short hair hanging over the back of her neck, but the sight of red peeking out catches her attention.

Is she bleeding? Did I bite too hard?

She moves that hair on the back of her neck to check for injuries but freezes because it's not a normal wound, it's this girl's soulmark.

One that says only one word in a bloody red that looks like it is etching itself into her skin over something else.

Himiko .
