Work Text:

Wednesday was crouched down a soft patch of grass outside, unbothered, organising parts in what appeared to be a particularly long briefcase.

“Wednesday!” Enid exclaimed worriedly, sprinting over to the lawn where Wednesday was still sorting through her briefcase.

Immediately, Enid continued,

“Are you okay? What happened? Where are we!?” She rattled the questions off one after another, not even bothering to wait for an answer.

“One question at a time, Enid.” Wednesday said flatly, shifting her head to face the girl standing behind her.

Enid didn’t listen, she was far too scared.
Panting anxiously, she continued once more,

“We just poofed out of thin air! What happened to the others? What happened to Nevermore? What happened to our dorm? Wha—“

“Enough, Enid.” Wednesday closed the briefcase and stood to look Enid in the eyes.

“Breathe.” Wednesday ordered. And like an obedient puppy, Enid obliged. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths to collect herself before she returned to staring back at Wednesday.

“Don’t disturb yourself with the details, everything is fine, we’ll be out of here in no time.” Wednesday was suspiciously calm considering the situation, but Enid thought nothing of it. After all, Wednesday is always a little suspicious.

Just then, Wednesday turned away from Enid, briefcase in hand, and started walking. Enid followed after her.

“Where are we?” Enid asked curiously. Thankfully, she was a lot calmer than before.

“Utah.” Wednesday replied bluntly.

“What are we doing in Utah?” Enid asked again.

“I have a job to do.”

Enid furrowed her brows as she sped up to match Wednesday’s pace. Just as she was going to question Wednesday’s suspicion, Wednesday interrupted.

“We’re here.” She said, stopping abruptly in front of the huge building.

Taking in their surroundings, Enid probed once again,

“Is this… a university?”

“Yes, now follow me.” Wednesday answered, proceeding into the large doors.

Enid followed idly behind, occasionally shooting a quick glance at the students walking by.

Eventually, they landed on a rooftop.

“Um… Wednesday?” She started, “what are we doing on the roof?” She finished.

Wednesday didn’t answer her question. Instead, she set the briefcase on the floor and started to unpack the items inside.

First came the stand, then came the gun.

“Try not to freak out.” Wednesday said firmly, leaning in to position the gun.

“What are you doing?!” Enid shouted.

“I said don’t freak out.” Wednesday retorted.

Enid was about to defy her request and ask her what the hell was going on, until…

BOOM.

Wednesday took a shot.

“ah!” Enid screamed, squeezing her eyes shut and covering her ears in shock.

The almost deafening sound rang in her ears like a bell as she opened her eyes to
witness the gruesome sight below them.

Charlie Kirk had been shot dead.

“WHAT THE FU—”

Wednesday smacked a hand over her mouth.

“We have to leave, now.” She said in a hushed tone but still keeping her previous unbotheredness.

Removing her hand from Enid’s face, Wednesday hurriedly packed the gun back into the briefcase and snatched Enid’s hand.

“Come on.” Wednesday urged.

Hand in hand, they ran down from the rooftop, across the university, and out through the back entrance.

Finally, they ended up at a nearby bus stop.

As the two were done catching their breath, Enid yelled,

“What the fuck was that Wednesday!? You just killed a guy!”

“No, I killed Charlie Kirk.” Wednesday countered.

“Who??” Enid asked with genuine, unfiltered, concern.

With one last breath, Wednesday answered, “Don’t worry about it.”
