Chapter Text

The battle had just began as the Prince begann to charge into battle leading his men into the fight, following Oxford's troops, the moment

It is difficult to see him now, after he has vanished in the chaos of combat, engulfed in the masses of fighting men, horses and weapon.

Warwick sighed.

He had promised his daughter and Queen Margaret to bring him home alive, safe and sound, well and without the slighest sign of a scratch.

However it seems the Prince is tempting fate with his foolish actions, almost asking, no begging to be killed or least grievously injured by recklessly charging forward

Riding forward, desparately searching for the heir to the throne, Warwick curses him himself for having underestimated the boy's determination to prove himself on the battlefield. How naive he was to believe Edward would content himself with merely riding behind him, closer to the rear then the center of the action.

would be satisfied to witness the fight from the safe distance protected by his soldiers.

Of course he wants to fight for his inheritance, his father's throne.

Of course the boy, wants to show himself as a daring warrior. prove his bravery and courage, show off his skills and force.

Most boys of his age have this more or less reckless hunger for honour and glory on the battlefield, and Edward, who has spent the majority of his life in exile, as the son of a deposed King, feels this reckless urge even more.

His past must have

As if the fiery spirit of his grandfather, that his father had put asleep, had been awakened in Edward.

He needs to find him, before he manages to get himself killed.

As the Prince of Wales, he will be Yorkist's main target. Young and experienced, idealistic and reckless he will be easily influenced to a foolish action, he will believe to be heroic, but that is objectively, absolutely nothing less then suicidal,

He ignores, almost carelessly the fighting before him.

Should something happen to the Lancastrian Prince. He will be dead either way. Queen Margaret will make sure of that.

The closer he gets to the scene of action, the more he witnesses the unfolding

Gloucester pushes back aggressively. It doesn't look well for them.

Their troops retreat. He sees Oxford' banner shaking, as his men fight back fiercely against the Duke's onslaught. He could almost be proud of his former ward, only if he would not put the skills to use against him. Warwick had taught him well.

How unfortunate it is he has chosen the wrong side.

Or is it unfortunate that Warwick has chosen wrong side

Warwick is a liar when says that he never thought about changing sides again.

With George as the Yorkist claimant, his son-in-law would be King and his elder daughter Isabel Queen, if the Yorkist won.

But he can't forgive George's betrayal at Barnet. He can't forget

A good reason, why he hadn't burned Clarence's letters. It is tempting, especially after facing so much distrust and contempt from the old Lancastrian Lords to declare himself for his son-in-law.

The Yorkists have allied with the Earl of Northumberland, one of his greatest enemies.

No

George enjoys little support among the English nobility, at least one third of his army is composed of foreign mercenaries.

Edward, despite being four years younger, will one day make a better King.

He is intelligent, thoughtful, even if sometimes he tries to act reckless.

He has less trust in his younger brother.

More then once, he heard his brother complaining.

Talking how everything had been better under Edward IV, completely forgetting how Edward had insulted him, by

Warwick has made his choice and now he has to make the best of it.

Should it turn worse, he will flee.

But first, he has to find the Lancastrian heir and escape with him.

"The Prince needs sent reinforcements. He is unprotected."

His brother Montagu approaches him and opens his bevor.

Otherwise I fear....

I will support him, forgetting that just minutes ago, he suspected his brother's loyalties.
