Chapter 1: If only..

Chapter Text

“Sorry but it doesn’t look like you will get a quirk.” Midoriya stared at Dr.Garaki with tears in his eyes.

Inko hugged Midoriya as he cried. “I’ll be back with you in a few. Come back next week, we could run some tests. You may be a late bloomer,” said Dr.Garaki.

Silence played throughout the whole office. The only thing that was heard were the slight flickering of the dim light above them. Midoriya cried the whole way home.

Bolting straight to his room—all he could do was stare into his computer, replaying that All Might video. His favorite video.

The only video he watched.

If only..

The next week.

11:45..Monday

Midoriya was back in the doctor's office. Spinning in the doctor's chair.

“Alright Midoriya..I’m gonna give you a few shots, Are you afraid of needles?” Dr.Garaki  said as he prepped up the needle and grabbed the wipe.

Midoriya was deadly afraid, but he remembered how Allmight always kept a slime on his face, even during trouble and or pain.

“..No..” Midorya said with quivering lips as he spoke.

“Alright then,” said Dr.Garaki. The strong smell of alcohol filled the room, being piled on top of the smell of bitter medicine.

Midoriya kicked his legs back and forth as he waited. His knees were bruised with scrapes and stretches that stung with contact.

Within a bit, Dr.Garaki held Midoriya's arm gently. “Stay still for me..” he said, injecting the needle slowly.

Midoriya held his eyes closed tight, a small tear seeping through the closed lids. But, he was quick to open them. It didn't really hurt, he couldn't help but crack a smile and feel as brave as ever. He felt like Allmight in that moment, giggling a bit.

The doctor put on a bandaid for him before wiping another spot on his arm and putting the needle in. Midoriya didn't even flinch with this one. He remembers how much he was shaking in his boots, now it’s not even that bad. The bandage was peeled and put on his arm. Once again he wiped his arm. “Alright just one more..” This time, the empty needle extracted a little blood.

“Are you supposed to put the many needles into my baby?..” Inko asked with worry in her eyes. She was starting to think something was wrong with her son.

The doctor laughed. “Don't worry about anything. I do have to run a few tests after all. Why don't you guys come back over tomorrow morning?” Dr. Garaki.

Inko nodded and picked up Izuku, taking him to the car. The car was slightly warm and the seats were soft. The seat belt medal was cold to the touch.  “Mom…? Do you think I will get a quirk one day and grow up to be just like all might?” Midorya asked with puffy eyes. His nose burned and he stared at his mom as she buckled him into the backseat.

Inko did not respond, she stayed quiet. She didn't wanna tell her son yes and then have him grow up to hate her but she also didn't want to say no and get her son even more upset than he already was.

The times she stood at the door listening to him cry everyday after coming home room school. Smashing the things around him and whining about he didn’t have a quirk. It pained Inko to see Midoriya come out the room with puff in his eyes and a red face, trying to act like he was fine.

If only..

She stayed silent, acting like she didn’t hear him as her phone buzzed in her pocket.

“Great timing..” She muttered to herself She got a call from mitsuki. She slid into the drivers seat and let her phone rest between her head and shoulder as she moved out of parking.

“Hey, are you still at the doctors with izuku?” Mitsuki asked with that sweet tone of worry, the only time you heard her voice soft—Aka when she wasn’t fussing with Bakugo.

“No, I'm just on my way home now. Inko replied.

“So what did the doctors say about midoriya?”

“Well we are going to have to come back tomorrow for results,”

“Again?”

“Mhm..”

“I hope he is alright. Hey whenever you get back home, maybe Midoriya can play with katsuki for a bit, that'll probably distract him from the situation for the meantime.” Mitsuki offered.

“Mitsuki, you're so sweet..God I can’t imagine what I would do without you. Thank you so much.” Inko grew a smile of gratitude.

“Thank you I- KATSUKI WHAT THE-...I'm sorry I gotta go, bye!”  Mitsuki forgot to hang up. The color drained from Inkos face as she heard a string of curse words from the other line. She squealed and panicked searching for the hang up button.

Inko could have her still innocent son hearing such things. Izuku couldn’t care less about what they were talking about. He was just imagining the things he could do, the things he would be doing if he had a quirk right now.

Midoriya looked down and watched the tears drop on his seatbelt, and absorb the tears. The boy looked up with hazy vision, watching raindrop race one another to the bottom of the window. The sky was cloudy and thunder struck, making Izuku snap out of it.

When arriving home, they hauled towards the door in an attempt to make it through the rain without protection. Once getting into the house, Izuku ran upstairs with stomping feet.

“Zuku!” Inko called out, watching him slam the door behind him. A sigh left Inko’s dried lips as sge came up the steps to knock on his door. “Izuku..?” She cooed, opening the door to peek into the room.

Midoriya snapped his Allmight figure in half as he was full of pure anger. “Leave me alone!” He yelled with a cracking voice.

Inko’s eyes were heavy. She had been dealing with his speak about being a hero and spoiling him rotten with all of this Allmight stuff. For him to sit here sulking and breaking stuff was stressing her out even more than she already was. She loved Izuku but this was as stressful as it was dealing with a baby who couldn’t voice their needs and just cried and cried and cried.

Sge plopped down next to izuku. “Zuku baby..oh my goodness.” She said, bringing her face into her palm. Look, why don't you go ahead and play with katsuki outside.. We will figure this out baby.”

”I don’t want to play outside! Let me alone!” He stomped id foot on the ground and attempted to moved her out of the way.

Inko stood her ground and crossed her arms.

” I can’t have you acting like this. You are going to go outside and you will play with Katsuki.”

The boy softened up, his face going back to his regular color. He wiped the snot and tears from his face, reluctantly dragging his feet towards the front door.

”Don’t forget your raincoat, I don’t need you getting sick!”
