Chapter Text

Abaddon walked the long corridors of the large hotel, his head hung low Deep in thought ghost phased trough walls in front of him, but he didn't pay mind to that..

It had been almost a month since Nathan took him in, a decision he still didn't understand

He had broken the dryer earlier that day, he knew Nathan didn't have the heart to scold him, he wasn't worried about that

He missed the feeling of being spun in the contraption, the pain he felt was rather pleasant...

"Are you sorry?..." His eyes widened as he heard a small voice, seemingly coming from nowhere, he stopped in his tracks, freezing up as a cold feeling ran up his spine

The voice felt familiar, he knew who it was but.. He hadnt spoken ever since the fall

"What do you mean" Abaddon mumbled back as he slowly started walking again, taking cautious steps

"For stealing my life" A small childs voice replied as Abaddon reached the end of the hallway, taking a seat on the staircase in front of him, leaning on the cold metal handrail right next to him

"..." The demon refused to reply, his small hands grabbing onto the edge of the stairs

"Why?" The shaky voice asked "Why did you steal my life, my body...."

Abaddon looked down onto his hands... or where they really his? He flinched as he hear loud church bells ringing in his ears, the demons eyes filled with tears as he instinctively covered his ear, these bells rung loudly it wasnt like anything he heard before....

The noise wouldnt stop... He clutched his head, sharp nails digging into his skin.... He sat there, not making a noise for what felt like eternity untill..

The loudy ringing stopped... Breaking the silence, the frail voice spoke carefully "You dont diserve this."

Abaddon pulled his knees up to his chest, resting his forehead on them, sobbing quietly, tears rolled down his cheeks

-few hours later-

Abaddon headed down to check on Nathan, his big blue eyes puffy As the small boy stepped into the room where his guardian sat

Nathan heard the sound of his shoes on the hardwood floor, turning his head over to the door

"Hey bud, do you need something?" Nathan asked, smilling softly Abaddon just sook his head, looking down at the gold colored buckles on his shoes

"Hey?.. Are you okay?" With a worried look on his face he quickly stood up from his chair walking over to the pale boy As Nathan stood in front of him he took a small step back, keeping his gaze on the floor

"I broke the dryer" Abaddon murmured quietly, regret in his tone

Nathan sighed, swiftly picking up the small boy, he walked out the room, talking to Abaddon in a soothing voice, he felt that it wasnt the right time to scold him

They entered the kitched and Nathan gently placed Abaddon on one of the chairs,

"Would you like some froot loops?" Nathan asked, looking down at the small child

He nodded quietly, deep in thought, fidgeting with the edge of the table cloth

Moments later Nathan placed a small bowl in front of him, turning around to grab Abaddons cup from the upper cabinet over the sink

The cup was old, from around when Nathan and Kathrine were still kids, when Nathan moved out he brought it with him as a keepsake

But now his ward was the one drinking out of it, even though the cup was for children, Abaddon didn't mind having to drink out of it

After pouring a cup of juice for the small demon, Nathan looked at Abaddon, smiling softly at the boy frantically scooping spoonfuls of cereal into his mouth

"Hey bud, imma step out for a bit ill be right back" Nathan said as he quickly stepped out of the room leaving Abaddon alone in the kitchen Abaddon stood up quickly, his eyes set on one of the kitchen drawers, where the knifes were kept , his small hands swiftly pulled the cabinet open, grabbing one of the knifes and shoving it into his pocket He didnt know what he was doing, not thinking once about his actions, he sat back at the table and acted like nothing happened as Nathan stepped back into the room

Abaddon quickly finished the froot loops and drank the juice Nathan gave him

Nathan sat down beside him, reaching over to ruffle His shoulder length brown hair as he looked into his doll like blue eyes, noticing that their unusually puffy

"Bud..." Nathan said in a worried tone "have you been crying?" he asked gently knowing that the boy would never admit to doing so

"No..." Abaddon replied, his eyes wide as he studied the soft expression on Nathans face

"If something is wrong, you can tell me" Nathan attempted to comfort him

Abaddon slowly stood up from the table, hopping down from the chair, not bothering to push it in. Walking out slowly

Nathan stayed behind, cleaning up after him, wiping down the spilled milk from the table and putting the dirty dishes in the sink

He was worried about the boy deciding to call his sister for advice, she knew more about kids then him, even though the 'child' in this situation was a 10300 year old demon

Abaddon climbed into the vents, exiting into a blocked off room only he knew about, he firstly found the room by accident , the door had been sealed off during the renovation where the prison had been turned into an asylum

The demon kept most of his belongings there, thankfully the small light bulb in the room still worked, he quickly turned the light on and reached in his pocket to place the knife on a box he used as a makeshift table

Sitting on a pillow in one of the corners of the small dusty room, his back against the wall

He heard whispering coming from beside him, the young boys soul spoke again in an angry tone

"Gosh your so pathetic, the man was trying to comfort you and you just walked away, your just making him feel bad for you, he probably hates you. Dont be surprised if he locks you out of the hotel one day"

Abaddon tried to disract himself from paying attention to the voice, but failed

"He wouldn't even care if you slit your throat in front of him, he probably keeps salt with himself just in case, i dont even understand how he could want you around"

The old light bulb flickered, the edge of the knife reflecting the light, catching Abaddons attention

"You should just slit your wrists and bleed out" the voice said in a serious tone, sending chills down Abaddons spine

Abaddon covered his ears, humming quietly trying to distract himself from the voice and the calling of the knife he stole

The night went on, Abaddon sitting pulling his hair and rocking back and forth, the young boys voice kept tormenting him, saying worse and worse stuff as the sun came up

Abaddon looked over at the clock he took from one of the rooms, it was 8:38 am, the demon didn't usually leave his secret room untill 10:00 but he couldn't just keep listening to the voice, it was driving him crazy

Slowly climbing out of the room through the vents exiting in the lobby he went to look for something to do to distract himself

The voice finally stopped tormenting him, as he exhaled the sound of church bells begun ringing in his head again, startled the boy froze up quickly, his hands beginning to shake as he walked to the kitchen to pour himself a glass of water

Dragging a chair to the sink, he stepped onto the soft cushioning in his shoes, dirting up the green fabric

He reached into the sink to rise out his cup, the bells still ringing in his ears

"Buddy? What are you doing?" Nathan slowly stepped into the room still in his pajamas, he must have heard him in the vents, Nathan doesn't usually wake up until 9 am

Started, Abaddon turned around quickly as the sound of the bells stopped abruptly

He exhaled out of relief, seeing Nathan brought him a sense of calm

"Its like 8 in the morning" Nathan stepped closer to the demon, rubbing his eyes

"Im sorry" Abaddon said as he stepped down from the chair, placing the empty cup onto the counter

"You dont have to-" Nathan begun to say but the boy cut him off

"I didnt mean to wake you, im terribly sorry" his eye begun to water as he pushed the chair in, looking up at Nathan with those big blue eyes of his

Walking over to Nathan, the tormenting had caught up to him, it didnt take much to convince him that the man that had taken him in was actually just acting, actually despiseing him in secret

"Its fine, really.." Nathan said, confused by the sudden change of attitude, looking down at the boy, he looked rougher than usual, his usual dark circles more noticeable

He stepped closer to the boy, picking him up gently, his body felt cold...

As the day went on Abaddon spent most of his time drawing, the young boys voice occasionally would speak to him, like some sort of intrusive thought

Nathan had bought him a crayon set, even though he would have rather been outside, looking for bones, he couldnt bring himself to go outside in fear of being locked out

He knew that his guardian wouldn't betray him like that, or did he....?
