Mis(t)fire

Summary:

"But, Y-Yuichirou-" Muichirou managed to gasp out in between heavy pants, his cheeks burning a bright red as a thin sheen of sweat coated his body. He could feel the slick sliding down his thigh agonizingly slow, almost as if meaning to piss him off. "H-He's an a-alpha," He reasoned.

Tamayo sighed softly, shaking her head as she pulled out the drawer in her desk. "It isn't often that identical twins, like the two of you, are assigned different genders. That being said, it isn't impossible for that rare phenomena to occur," She pulled out a bottle of emergency heat suppressing pills, popping it open to pour one out into the lid. "Your heat cycles must've been irregular if your sex had gone completely unrealized, Tokitou-kun. Do you have any idea what could've triggered it all of a sudden? Alpha pheromones can, but dormant symptoms like yours are hard to rouse. Perhaps it was a specific alpha's pheromones?"

Specific alpha pheromones, eh?

Like maybe... Shinazugawa Genya's?

"... Fuck."

Notes:

I'll add more tags as the story progresses if I feel they're necessary. The tags currently are what I have planned for the upcoming chapters.

Updates may be irregular at times as I balance between work and uni, but I'll do my best to get some quality writing out as often as possible.

I've seen a lot of GenMui on here, and I've been meaning to dabble in omegaverse dynamics, so I figured I'd give it a shot.

Also, for logistic purposes; Betas are the majority. Alphas are the runner-up, and Omegas are the minority. Twins, especially identical, are almost always guaranteed to have the same sexual assignment. In order to "successfully" mate, the Alpha would need to bite the Omega's pheremone glands, which are usually between the neck and shoulder, and knot the Omega. There are two kinds of suppressants, one suppressing the Omega's heat cycles, and the other suppressing the Alpha's rut cycles.

Expression of either gender can be dormant, though it is rare.

Thanks!

Chapter 1: Dreams

Chapter Text

Tokitou Muichirou never dreamed.

It wasn't peculiar to him, whatsoever, as this had been one of the many constant, prominent facts of his life. No matter how deep he slept, anxious he was, or significant a feat he accomplished that day, he never dreamed.

All he saw when he closed his eyes was mist.

Not that he minded, however. It was beautiful, almost tranquil. Considering the thoughts that flooded his brain so often on a daily basis, he needed the quiet that zoning out offered him. While he would get scolded by his teachers for staring at clouds during class time, there was no one around to tell him not to lie in the mist of his dreams.

It was a very serene quiet. The only time his brain would silence itself was when he slept. Muichirou didn't mind not having dreams. In fact, he found it relaxing.

"Muichirou!" A pillow slammed onto his head, Muichirou waking with a yelp as the pillow was pulled off of him. He covered his face, slowly opening his eyes and peering between his middle and ring fingers. Identical, teal eyes met his, albeit in that constant scowl his twin always adopted. "We're going to be late, Shithead. Get up, already."

Muichirou groaned, rubbing his eyes as he slowly sat up. Already, he longed to be back in the mist his brain offered when he was unconscious. "What time is it?" He asked softly, only for Yuichirou to scoff. "Does it matter? We're gonna be late. Hurry the hell up. I'll be waiting for you outside."

Bland was the only word applicable to Muichirou's day-to-day life. Every day was the same; Walk to school with Yuichirou, get through his boring classes, maybe stay after school for shogi, then go home.

Thus was the life of one of the prodigious Tokitou twins. Them both being alphas as well, and people being biased assholes, they were 'expected to do great things!'

How troublesome.

"Muichirou," The scarred, white-haired math teacher with anger issues called out to him as everyone started packing up. Muichirou was staring out the window again, not even paying attention when the bell rang, until he heard his name called. He turned his head to look at his teacher, Shinazugawa Sanemi, as he approached the younger boy at his desk. "You n' your brother are the only students doing exceptionally well in my class." Muichirou raised a brow. Was he about to get praised by his asshole teacher? He almost rolled his eyes. "Thank you, Shinazugawa-Sensei-" "I'm not done," Sanemi interrupted. He scowled a little, clicking his tongue before continuing. "My kid brother, Genya, needs tutoring. He's an idiot, he's incompetent, and I don't have the patience for him anymore. If you tutor him, I'll pay you."

Ah, that makes more sense.

Muichirou nodded. "I don't need payment, Shinazugawa-Sensei. I wouldn't mind tutoring your brother." Sanemi stared blankly at him for a moment before shrugging. "Suit yourself, then. I'll write down the address for you. I don't care what days you come or how long you stay, just make sure the dumbass understands what he's looking at before you leave."

"Shinazugawa Genya," Muichirou mumbled to himself, having repeated the name while on his walk to the Shinazugawa household. Not for any particular reason. He just didn't want to forget it so he knew who to ask for. He lifted his hand and knocked on the door, holding his book bag with both of his hands.

The door opened after a few seconds, Muichirou having to crane his neck upwards to get a look of who answered the door.

He was a tall (at least compared to Muichirou), slightly more tanned (again, in comparison to Muichirou) boy with a familiar, jagged scar running across his face, a mohawk-like haircut with some hair framing his neck, and those same, wide, purple eyes that his brother had. The taller boy looked down at Muichirou, the latter slightly dazed by his appearance.

He's cute.

"Uhm... Yes?" The taller boy asked, not expecting to have been met with silence after opening the door. Muichirou blinked a few times before clearing his throat. "Hello," He greeted softly with a slow bow of his head. "My name is Tokitou Muichirou... I'm here to tutor a... Shinazugawa Genya?"

"Uhhh... Yeah, that's me." Genya raised a brow, rubbing the back of his neck. "But I wasn't expecting a tutor."

Muichirou tilted his head a little, quirking a brow in confusion. "Shinazugawa-Sensei sent me. He said you needed help. Did he not tell you?"

Genya frowned a little at his words, letting out a small sigh in disappointment. Muichirou flinched at his reaction, wondering if he'd said something off-putting. "That... sounds like him," Genya muttered, running his fingers through his hair before opening the door a little wider. "Come in. My mom and siblings aren't home yet, so it'll be quiet for now."

Muichirou followed Genya inside, who kept awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. "My bedroom's upstairs. Did you want anything? Maybe some tea or-" "No, thank you. I'm alright," Muichirou interjected softly. Genya nodded, gesturing for the younger boy to follow him up the stairs and into his room.

Muichirou pulled his book bag off of his shoulder and set it beside a small desk adjacent to the bedroom door. "Do you have a fan in here?" He asked, feeling a little warm after stepping into the house. Genya nodded, flipping a switch to turn on the ceiling fan.

"Do you have any particular subject you're struggling with?" The younger boy asked, watching as Genya joined him at the desk after pulling up a second chair. "I guess some math review wouldn't hurt. Sanemi's always on my ass for that subject."

Muichirou nodded. "Alright, then. We can focus on that before we do anything else-" "Hey, uh... Are you... wearing cologne, by any chance?" Genya asked slowly, sniffing the air. The teal-eyed boy furrowed his brows a little in confusion. "No, why?"

The older boy sniffed the air again. "I dunno... Something smells... nice, I guess?" He looked back at Muichirou, locking eyes with him. "Are you an Alpha?" He suddenly asked. This made Muichirou blink a few times confusedly. "... Yes," He answered slowly, as if that should have been obvious. "Are you?" He retorted, though there was no malice, just confusion on the reasoning behind such a random question. Genya nodded. "Yeah. It must be my imagination, then. Sorry, we can get started."

Muichirou was back home at around 8:30 PM. It wasn't like he had a curfew or anything, as his parents knew he was trustworthy, but Yuichirou hated when he got home late without prior notice. After an earful from his grumpy twin, Muichirou slipped into bed and pulled the covers over himself. He rubbed the skin between his neck and shoulder, feeling something comparable to a pinching sensation there since he'd left the Shinazugawa household.

Maybe he overexerted his shoulder at some point today. He wasn't quite sure, but this hasn't happened before.

Whatever. At least he was in bed, now. Maybe rest would help.

Maybe some time in that comforting mist would be of use.

"Tokitou-san," A gentle, familiar voice cooed out.

Muichirou slowly opened his eyes, the moonlight above them shining down on a small pond, cherry blossoms slowly falling into the still water. He was resting against someone, their body providing a comforting warmth that only made him nuzzle into their shoulder.

A small chuckle escaped the person's lips. "I  didn't think you'd be this tired... Should I take you to bed?"

Muichirou slowly looked up at the person he was clinging to. Genya smiled gently down at him, gaze filled with adoration.

It was a sight only Muichirou got to see.

"Only if you come with me," He huffed, pouting a little as he moved his head upward a little to rest his chin on the older boy's shoulder. Genya laughed softly, moving his arm to wrap around Muichirou's waist, pulling him closer, which the hashira didn't mind at all. "You always get so clingy after missions, Tokitou-san." "Muichirou," The shorter one corrected, stubbornly. "You can drop formalities when we're alone." Genya cleared his throat. "Muichirou," He repeated softly, making Muichirou's heart flutter as he smiled against Genya's chest. "I just miss you is all... Can you blame me?" He looked up at the taller boy, knowing just how flustered he could get.

As predicted, the blood rushed to Genya's cheeks and he averted his gaze almost shyly. "I... I guess not..." Muichirou placed his hand on the side of the scarred boy's face, gently turning his head to force him to look in his direction. "You're so adorable when you get red, Gen," He murmured out softly, slowly leaning in to press his lips against his.

It was a slow, passionate kiss. Even though this wasn't the first time they'd kissed like this, it still never failed to make Genya's heart beat a thousand miles per hour. After the first few, initial seconds of shock, Genya slowly wrapped his other arm around Muichirou's waist. The young hashira responded in tandem, wrapping both of his arms around the taller boy's neck before hoisting himself onto his lap completely. Genya let out a small yelp in surprise, though he didn't pull away.

Muichirou's tongue slowly glided along his lips, to which Genya hesitantly parted them to allow the hashira's tongue into his mouth. After a few moments of heated tongue wrestling, Muichirou pulled away. A string of saliva broke between their mouths, and Genya almost immediately shoved his head into the hashira's neck, dragging his tongue lazily over a healing bite mark on the flesh between Muichirou's shoulder and neck. "You're so hot," Genya mumbled against his pale skin, nibbling gently against his neck. Muichirou blushed slightly, feeling the heat starting to rush to his core. "Need you, Gen," He whined out meekly, Genya letting out a soft groan against his skin in response.

"Already bit you, Mui," The older boy mumbled, looking up at the hashira with a mischievous grin. "You trying to get me to bite you more? I can if you ask nicely." Muichirou pouted, gently hitting Genya's shoulder with the palm of his hand. "Don't tease me!" He huffed out. Genya chuckled again. "You say that, but your pheremones are going crazy, right now..."

Muichirou panted softly, closing his eyes to focus on breathing in the addictive scent of gunpowder and fresh fruit that Genya's pheremones gave off. It was an odd combination of smells, of course, but Muichirou couldn't help but get fucking high off of it.

"S'cause I love my alpha... My Genya..."

Muichirou woke up in a cold sweat, his eyes shooting wide open as he sat up. His breathing was rapid and heavy, and beads of sweat had formed on his hairline under his bangs. He looked around, confirming his surroundings before taking a deep breath and exhaling.

He was in his bedroom. Thankfully, alone. Yuichirou would've thrown a pillow at him by now if they'd still shared a room, telling him to shut up and go back to sleep.

His heart was beating really fast. That dream felt too real, like a memory he didn't remember having.

Dream?

Muichirou paused.

He had a dream?

About him? Shinazugawa Genya? The guy he was supposed to be tutoring? The guy he barely met today?

The silence was deafening, the only light coming from the moon and stars piercing through the window.

He didn't sleep much the rest of the night.
