Work Text:
Deborah caught the flu. Ava is taking care of her.
This is not how they imagined the weekend with one of them not feeling well. It was the beginning of their vacation after the successful first season of Late Night With Deborah Vance.
Despite the almost tumultuous and abrupt ending of her show, Deborah managed to turn things around. She didn't want to blackmail Bob Lipka, but had no other choice, he was determined to fire Ava. The truth was, the blonde woman didn't just do it for Ava; she also did it because, besides being a woman, she was a comedian who loved her art. Of course there would never have been another option to save Ava, and she wanted to make sure that their Late Night retained faithfulness to the essence of what they made together.
Deborah had made a promise to Ava that night when she almost drowned because of a stranger; she would never again hurt the woman she loved. Never again. The oldest woman still thought about the humiliation and pain she had caused out of jealousy after seeing the redhead having dinner with a couple who, according to her, Ava had absolutely no chemistry.
In the end, Deborah acknowledged that when Ava had blackmailed her that there was no selfishness involved; there was resentment and sadness, but it was something she did for both of them.
There's no Late Night without a head writer, there's no Deborah without Ava.
Ava and Deborah fought so hard to build together, not just in the last year, but ever since they felt that it was worth fighting for, and none of this would have been possible without the redhead. Obviously Deborah had a successful career, had spent years on the road, and the fact that she had rebuilt her entire life on her own, after a lot of struggle, was undeniable. But everything had changed when Ava crashed into her world.
Deborah pushed Ava away more times than she would have liked, and nothing would make her do it again. Not even this stupid flu.
They are staying at Ava's.
Ava ended up choosing to live in the house she bought in Los Angeles, without any new subletter, — although she spends most of the week at Deborah's side mansion. The redhead received a good amount of money from the profits of the special “My Bad”, which she didn't want to accept, but Marcus told Deborah he knew what to do with the money as a gift.
The house was smaller, — but very cozy and warm. Ava initially thought that Deborah wouldn't get used to being without her amount of people working all the time, but her girlfriend was loving doing things on her own. Deborah still hasn't gotten used to being called a girlfriend but she loves it.
Deborah woke up earlier than Ava like usual. Almost every day she opens the curtains at the same time, 6 a.m. The view wasn't like the one from her mansion, but she was gazing at the sky with pure joy, because she was about to start another day with the most important person in her world. Deborah was lost in her thoughts, when she felt the presence of the redhead that she loves pressing a light kiss to her neck, which she quickly responded to with a soft smile.
“A kiss for your thoughts babe.” Ava said, still stretching. Her hair was a little messy, voice still deep from having just woken up. She was wearing only an oversized t-shirt and her white socks. Nothing more than that.
“Good morning honey. I didn't know you'd be waking up this early, but today, I made more coffee than usual.”
Deborah, on the other hand, was wearing her luxurious red silk robe over her expensive pajamas. She had noticed that Ava wasn't wearing her boxers, which was normal.
“I'll get dressed so we can have our breakfast.” She said, giving her girlfriend a quick peck on the lips, enjoying the taste of coffee.
“You know I don't mind, but okay, I'll set the table.” Deborah responded, getting up.
Ava returned fully dressed with a comfortable fit, wearing a white tank top, mid-length denim shorts, and her favorite Adidas sneakers that showed off her long socks.
As they drank their coffee, Deborah realized she was still bothered by being sick and becoming unable to leave the house, or write new things. They weren't social butterflies, but this wasn't how they wanted their vacation to go. Both of them were very committed to their work, or thinking about how to produce new material.
“Today I want to help you in the kitchen.” Ava hugged Deborah from behind, resting her head on the older woman's shoulder and leaving a trail of kisses.
“Ava, if you keep acting like this, I won't be able to finish our lunch.” She said faking frustration. “Could you pass me the tomato sauce?”
“Of course. Anything else?” Ava asked enthusiastically.
“Nothing at the moment, but could you please set the table?” Deborah said while finishing the pasta, which, by the way, looked very tasty and smelled delicious.
“Sure! I'll bring your pills later.” Ava walked away and went to look for forks, dishes were already in place. Ava placed two glasses on the table, and turned around to grab their diet coke. “Do you have a headache, D?
Deborah wasn't used to having other people taking care of her, besides Josefina, of course. In recent years, she hadn't had much time to get romantically involved with anyone beyond casual, and she missed it; she just couldn't admit it. Now that fear doesn't exist. “I'm feeling a little better, thanks for asking.” She responded while she brought the food to be served.
After lunch, the two laid down in the living room. The place had a calm atmosphere, windows offered a view of some trees in the garden — the sun almost beginning to set.
The living room was set in a warm light and plants in the corners. The television was positioned in front of the white reclining and comfortable sofa. On the coffee table were two mugs with hot chocolate.
“If you want, you can sleep in our bed while I finish this episode of Severance.” Ava said while kissing her, not caring if she got sick too.
Deborah responded positively with a small smile, slipping away from her girlfriend's arms and going to bed.
Around half an hour later, in their bedroom, Ava was admiring Deborah's features. She was sleeping peacefully at first, but suddenly Ava noticed she was shivering and the redhead quickly checked her temperature with her hand.
“Babe? Babe, please wake up. Here's your medicine.” Ava stood up, reaching out to turn on the bedside lamp and get a glass of water. Deborah, still a little sleepy, sat near the headboard, her eyes half-open.
“Thank you Ava.” She said, still a little weak.
Deborah had already accepted the love her girlfriend had for her, and each day she made sure of allowing herself to be loved more and more.
The redhead saw how wet her hair was with sweat, and her beautiful blue eyes looked very tired. “Let's take a bath, I'll prepare the tub while you let your body temperature return to normal.”
Ava helped Deborah into the bathtub, sitting right behind her.
The water temperature was so cozy. Ava was washing her hair because she was too tired to do it herself.
“Ava, you don't need to take care of me like I'm going to break.” Deborah knew it wasn't true, and she regretted it as soon as she said. The oldest woman was trying to be more careful not to always be on the defensive.
“I definitely know you won't. I just want you to feel good. Just accept the massage I'm going to give you right now.” Ava stretched out her right arm, and picked up some bath oil.
Communication between them was priceless now. After secrets, lies, and broken hearts, they didn't want to waste any more time. Of course, they still argued, not only because of differing opinions, or because they are inevitably from different generations, but now everything needed to be resolved before they went to sleep for the health of their relationship. That was the agreement.
A few moments later, Ava started to trace lingering kisses down Deborah's neck. She continued after hearing a soft moan, then carefully lowered her hands to the breasts of the woman in front of her.
“Please don't stop.”
And as instructed, Ava continued, pinning Deborah's nipples with one hand while the other made circles on her stomach. With her mouth, the redhead distributed small bites on the older woman's left earlobe.
“I love you.” Deborah said softly, in a low voice heavy with love and lust.
Deborah had barely finished speaking when Ava lowered her left hand, making tortuously slow circular movements on her clit.
“Faster.” Deborah ordered.
And Ava happily obeyed. Like always.
With more circles and speed, Deborah felt her body tense, making herself apply more and more pressure against Ava, whose nipples were hard on the blonde's back. After moaning and breathing irregularly for a few moments, she came undone.
“I love you D. I love you so much.” Ava said smiling, hugging her and cuddling until the water seemed uncomfortably cold.
When the sun was almost settled, Deborah started feeling better. She was looking at some recipes, and asked if Ava would like to help her bake a cake.
“Deborah, I can go out and buy. It's literally just across the street!” Ava was answering some emails at their kitchen table, while hearing Deborah looking for flour.
“And what's the fun in that?” Deborah responded by grabbing some eggs, yeast, and flour. “Will you help me or not?”
“Of course, babe. Show me what to do." Ava stood up, leaving behind her laptop and some handwritten notes.
“Well, first you're going to take this and-”
Deborah didn't have time to finish. Ava approached just at the same time the blonde was turning around, making her lose the chance to explain step-by-step how they were going to make it.
“Deb-, I'm sorry, I don't-” Ava was now covered in flour.
She hadn't even finished speaking when Deborah let out a laugh, that loud laugh that shook Ava to her core.
Ava thought she was going to get a scolding, but it was the opposite, so it was her turn to get revenge by grabbing flour and throwing it towards Deborah.
“No! That's not fair! You little sh-”
Ava grabbed Deborah by her waist. The two of them were laughing, covered in flour, in the middle of the kitchen. They didn't need much to be happy, just being in each other's arms was enough.
The cake was left unfinished.
A couple of hours later, after the making out session in the kitchen was over, they went to clean up.
It was already night, almost 11 p.m. and they were lying in the bedroom facing each other, after getting ready for bed. They had brushed their teeth together while talking about new jokes and new late-night sketches. Deborah did her skincare routine while Ava talked about a variety of subjects, and her girlfriend loved it.
In Los Angeles the sky was already dark, but there were many lights in the background, which contrasted with the white walls and curtains of the room. Ava loves plants, so there were a few more around. Photos of the two of them were displayed in frames — awards shows, selfies, their trips together, just important memories showing unforgettable and happy moments. The best part about being a public couple was that they would always be there rooting for each other, and when one of them wins something, they'll give each other a little kiss and become each other's cheerleaders.
Deborah's flu symptoms seemed to be getting a lot better. She slowly approached Ava, who accepted the touch, closing her eyes when she felt the blonde's right hand sliding across her left cheek.
They began a calm kiss, they weren’t in a big rush after all.
Ava gently broke the kiss, pulling away to look deeply into the eyes she loved to see up close every day. “Deborah? I need to tell you something.”
“Go ahead my love.” Deborah replied stroking the redhead's hair and tucking it behind her ear.
“I finally finished my script.” Ava let out with a sigh. “And you were right, I needed to focus on other things. I feel really good.”
Ava observed carefully, searching for any trace of anger or insecurity, but found nothing. So she discreetly looked away.
“I'm proud.” Deborah said, and she truly was. “I was pushing you for your own good. Look at me.” Deborah gently held her girlfriend's chin, who was avoiding looking at her. “Ava, you can't just suppress your talent to fit into my world. That's not fair, and I already told you this, you're too good.”
Ava felt her chest swell with love. She loved that woman more than anything. They had almost destroyed each other, but they had also rebuilt themselves many times.
Words of affirmation for Ava not only boosted her self-esteem, which she had doubted for years, but also filled her with new goals. The troubled relationship with her mother improved. Nina Daniels didn't yet fully understand the paths she was taking, but she no longer appeared out of nowhere with more problems to her daughter's life. Thanks to Deborah's encouragement, Nina and Ava talked more often, and the redhead also ensured that her relationship with DJ and her grandson was a healthy one.
On AJ's first birthday, Ava bought him a little jacket, and of course, she cried when she saw him wearing it for the first time. Deborah thought it was very cute, so she set the photo of the two of them together from that moment as her phone wallpaper.
“You know I love you a lot, right?”
“Yeah, I really love you too Ava. Come here.”
Ava gently positioned herself over Deborah, supporting her weight on her elbows and started tracing kisses. The redhead delicately unbuttoned the top of the older woman's pajamas, holding her breath when she noticed Deborah without a bra, as if it were the first time. Ava was grinning and showered her with more kisses and took off the bottom part of her girlfriend’s clothes. Deborah helped by lifting her hips.
Ava gazed with devotion and lust. “You’re the prettiest woman alive.” Her plea was evident in her voice. “You’re so beautiful that I can hardly ever take my eyes off you.”
“Stop teasing me.” Deborah whined, squirming underneath her woman.
Ava chuckled low and slow. Finally, finally, she situated herself between Deborah’s legs.
The redhead licked a hot stripe along Deborah's slit, and all words or capacity for proper speech left her mouth. Everything she knows, everything she feels is just Ava licking at her and drinking her in like a woman starved. Deborah lifts a hand to her mouth to stifle a moan, when Ava’s hand shoots up and grabs at her wrist fast, pulling it back down to the mattress they’re lying on.
“You don’t have to hide it from me.” She whispered, lips shining and eyes dark with lust. Ava left Deborah’s knee over her shoulder and when she dived back in again, the angle was deeper and more intense.
Deborah's whole back arched off the bedding, hands grappling against the sheets. The heat inside her as she’s panting heavily, breath hyperventilating its way out of her tight chest.
When Ava sucked at her clit, fingers coming up to rub deep inside her, Deborah screamed. She tried to keep her blue eyes open even though they wanted to slide shut. Deborah's consciousness was a tenuous thing that fades in and out, only to snap into crystalized clarity when Ava finds that amazing spot inside of her.
Ava paused for a moment to make a request. She said breathlessly. “Deborah, look at me.”
The air above them crackled with fire. Something in Deborah finally bursted and overflowed from the brim with sticky liquid heat from her as she came hard, shaking and saying Ava’s name without breaking eye contact.
The oldest woman flopped back onto the bed, boneless and sated, almost felling herself floating. She hissed as the oversensitivity kicked in, and grabbed at Ava’s shoulders, neck, every part of her she could reach to pull the other girl up towards her for another kiss.
Deborah tasted herself on Ava’s lips. And definitely not the first time. It was salty and slimy but that didn’t stop the sharp stab of arousal that pulsed through her.
“Tell me what you need.” she whispered against Ava’s lips.
“You.” she gasped. “I always just need you.”
"You're such a good girl, Ava." Deborah said, now with her eyes closed and a huge smile on her lips.
Deborah was not yet fully recovered, but reversing their positions, she quickly undressed the redhead, and the older woman loved admiring her girlfriend's body, exceptionally her hips. She was lying on top of Ava, letting her woman pull her closer as she kissed her neck, hands slowly traveling up Ava's thighs, taking in every inch of skin.
Ava was on the verge of being emotional, the youngest woman kissed her possessively and passionately.
And Deborah received them all, kissing her back with equal emotions, meeting her halfway.
“I will always want to be wherever you are.” Ava whined against her lips as they gazed into each other’s eyes. The blonde one slid her fingertips up Ava’s inner thighs, making the redhead whimper slightly as she opened her legs wider for her. Deborah pressed her hand against her girlfriend’s pussy and took a sharp breath at how drenched she was.
“Goddamn, you’re so wet for me.” Deborah breathed against her ear. Ava had her arms around, fingers digging into her girlfriend's back.
“Don’t make me beg.” Ava almost growled.
Deborah groaned, burying her face in Ava’s neck to inhale her scent as she pushed two fingers inside her. She slyly sucked on the skin of the redhead neck as she started moving slowly yet deeply in and out.
It wasn’t enough for Ava. Deborah slid a third finger inside her, teased by the moan she let out next to her ear. She wanted to please the redhead more and more.
“Fuck fuck fuck-.” Ava hissed, holding the blonde even tighter against her. “Don’t stop, please.” She whined in that particularly obscene way. Deborah nipped at her jaw and started fucking her hard, moving her body as if to give weight to the thrust of her hand.
Ava pulled Deborah's head back by her hair to kiss her hard. They giggling at themselves as Deborah leaned her forehead against Ava’s, looking into her eyes as she fucked her harder, her whole body tense as she tried to give everything her redhead wanted.
“I’m- I'm so close-” Ava whimpered in the blonde's ear, her small nails digging into Deborah's back. “Please!” Her plea was broken by a moan, and Deborah kept going as hard and fast as she had been until Ava gloriously came around her fingers. Deborah nuzzled her nose softly before kissing her tenderly. Then, she gently pulled out of her girlfriend and sucked all fingers clean, wiggling eyebrows to make Ava laugh.
She succeeded as always, they will always make each other laugh, and Deborah stole another kiss.
“Mmmh” Ava mumbled feeling completely exhausted, sleep was already approaching fast. “Cuddles.” She simply murmured with a hoarse voice, rolling on her girlfriend's side.
Deborah kissed her shoulder and pulled the sheets on top of them, spooning her tightly, burying her face in Ava's hair. They can change the bed sheets tomorrow.
“Thank you for today, Ava. Have sweet dreams my love.”
They both fell asleep almost instantly.
