All Izuku Midoriya has ever known was pain. Pain from the fact that he will- or would have never been like All Might, saving people, doing what’s right. Even his childhood friend, his Kacchan, turned against him once the blonde realized he was a, quote on quote, ‘quirkless loser’.
The day Katsuki told him to take a swan dive off the roof is also the day he decided his dream of ever being a hero, even without a quirk, was hopeless.
But when he saw Bakugou getting attacked by that slime monster, something in him snapped. He impulsively rushed to help him, even if he couldn’t do anything against a villain with a quirk. His hero saved the day, and the rest is history.
When All Might sought him out later on and asked if he would be his successor, he began doing everything to be worthy of his power- and he succeeded.
—
It’s been a year since that fateful day. He mastered his quirk, made up with Bakugou, made new friends, and finally he was living the life he always wanted- saving people, and being a true hero. But now came his biggest obstacle yet: his feelings for Katsuki.
Yes, the guy that literally obliterated Overhaul and saved Eri, can’t even handle a crush on his best friend.
Ochako pat his back in pity, watching as he dug his hands deeper into his eyes. “What do I do, Ochako?! There’s no way he likes me back! I mean, come ON, we barely made up and FOUGHT like idiots instead of talking it out!” He whined, throwing his head back in exasperation.
Tenya, who was awkwardly standing nearby, pat his back. “Uhm. There, there. Well, you eventually did talk to him, and made up right? So, why don’t you talk again?” He adjusts his glasses. Shoto(where did he come from?) agreed. “You should. I mean, what’s the worst thing that can happen?”
“HE WILL HATE ME AND BE DISGUSTED.” Deku cries, gritting his teeth. “For All Might’s sake, why is using my QUIRK easier than this?!” Ochako had to bite her lip at his funny comment and stifled a laugh. “That’s what I told myself with Toga, the girl that literally tried to kill me! And look where we are now!”
Deku grumbled, and stood up, carding a hand through his messy hair. “I’m just gonna go train, man.” He shot a smile at the others, and waved as he walked away. “Thanks for the comfort, though.” The One For All user disappeared out of the dorm living room, walking past a confused Kirishima.
“Woah. He actually looks frustrated. That’s a first.” The red-head comments, staring at Ochako. The girl in question sighs. “Yup…”
—
Deku walked outside in his typical blue shirt and black shorts, staring at the training dummies like they personally offended him. He feels the familiar feeling of One For All coursing through his veins as his eyes begin glowing a bright shade of teal, his fist connecting with the poor dummy. It crumbles under the force of his punch, falling into a sad, broken heap on the ground.
Izuku sweats. Maybe he should’ve held back a little. Oh well.
He began performing familiar motions, kicking and punching at the air, whiplash occasionally shooting out to tear open the earth. The green-haired student didn’t hear the approaching footsteps, until he grumbled, throwing a particularly harsh punch forward.
His eyes shot as his fist got caught, the one taking the blow grunting. “Fuck- damn, that hurt. You can still fucking pack a punch, Jezus Christ.” Katsuki let go of his hand, rubbing at his wrist. Izuku panicked, bowing in apologies. “I’m sorry, Kacchan! I didn’t hear you.” He sweatdropped, and Bakugou only nodded, smirking.
“Need a training partner?” The blonde-proposed, doing a couple of stretches. Deku’s eyes did NOT linger on his arms. They did NOT.
Izuku tears his gaze away from the other’s arms, grinning. “Okay, but you better not hold back. Let’s just keep the property damage to a minimum or otherwise Aizawa-Sensei will kill us.” He snorted at the memory of what happened last time they trained together.
They had to clean all the classrooms for a WEEK.
Bakugou shuddered at the memory of what happened last time. What he witnessed in those classrooms… The explosive boy shook his head, and punched in his own hand. “Yeah. Don’t want to clean again…” The younger laughed. “That was HORRENDOUS. Do you remember that unidentified goop we found, that somehow was sentient?” The blonde grumbled and let out a (soft, with non-murderous tendencies) in the other’s direction.
“Oh, shut the fuck up. It ran away. I don’t want to think about it.” He smirks, getting in a fighting position. “Alright. No holding back, but! If you manage to pin the other down, you win. Deal?” Deku rolls his shoulders backwards. “Bet.”
Within the next second, they were both at each other’s throats.
Bakugou blasted towards Midoriya, the other barely dodging the blast aimed for his chest. He retaliated with a kick to the other’s gut, but the blonde blasted himself out of range. They went back and forward like that for hours on an end, sweat soaking their clothes. But despite the gnawing ache of exhaustion, their smiles never faltered.
Eventually, Katsuki slipped up. His blast aimed wrong, sending him wrong, sending him RIGHT in Deku’s trajectory. The green-haired boy took the opportunity to smash him down in the ground with an unforgiving kick, quickly pinning the blonde down.
They stared at each other for an agonizingly long and quiet minute, before Izuku flushed red all the way to his ears at their… interesting position. He quickly got up, scratching at his sweaty hair. He pulled the taller one up, sweat dropping at how battered and bruised they both look.
Luckily, they didn’t damage the training grounds too much.
Bakugou grabbed Deku’s wrist, a teasing grin on his face. “Cmon, you damn nerd. Wanna go to the roof and see if we can see the stars?” Izuku’s heart skipped a beat at the question, and he let himself get tugged along, staring at the back of Bakugou’s head.
At that moment, he made up his mind. He can’t keep hiding these feelings. Bakugou deserves to know.
And the blonde, unknowingly, just gave him the best scenario possible to confess.
—
They were lucky- the door was unlocked and there wasn’t anybody else besides them. The One For All user drops the blanket on the ground, laying down on it. (they went to go get blankies!) Bakugou dropped down next to him, stretching his tired muscles.
Izuku stared at the stars, snorting. “You ever wonder about how we’re so small compared to the universe? I mean, we’re just 1 solar system in the milky way, which is made out of millions of solar systems and the milky way is a nebula, and nebula’s also create-” “Shut the fuck up and enjoy the silence, damn nerd.” Deku quickly shut his mouth, flushing red.
But Katsuki did have a point.
The stars were exceptionally beautiful tonight, sparkling bright against the dark sky. Deku could even make out some of the constellations, like Ursa Major (or Great Bear like non-geeks would say).
Their hands brushed. Neither of them pulled away.
Midoriya kept his eyes on the beautiful view above them, but his hand shakily reached out, grabbing Bakugou’s. The man in question briefly froze, but laced their fingers together, scarred and rough meeting soft and smooth. (Bakugou needs to use lotion so his hands don’t dry out. That's why they soft trust)
Deku swallowed, and opened his mouth. “Kacchan, I-” “Deku, I-” They started at the exact same moment, and immediately bursted out into giggles. “No, you go first, idiot.” Bakugou snorted, putting his arm under his head. Deku was about to refuse, but… just this once, he’ll start.
“Kacchan, I-” The One For All user started, but fell silent yet again. He groaned. “Talking is hard!” Bakugou snorted in response. “Fuck yeah it is.” Deku took a deep breath, and turned to stare at Katsuki.
Their eyes met, and Izuku knew. “Ever since we were little, even with everything that has happened, even with how we fought, you’re still my friend. Life sucks, I know that, but you make it more bearable, and I-” His eyes darted away.
“I- I like you, Kacchan. I like your explosive side, your sadistic side, even the one that makes insensitive comments.” Katsuki kept his gaze even when he looked away. Deku felt the blonde’s hands getting increasingly clammy.
Bakugou swallowed. “Deku, I- I’m not good. With words. Never have been. It’s easier just to curse and kill and scream and be angry than to actually feel. But you… I-” He gritted his teeth in frustration, cursing loudly.
“I- I’m better with actions.” He turned towards Deku, cupping his cheek and clumsily smashing their lips together. It wasn’t gentle- they were both inexperienced, but it was clear that Bakugou was at least trying to be gentle.
Izuku melted into the kiss, wrapping his arm around Bakugou’s waist and tugging him closer, the cold night air nipping at their sweaty skin. The blonde opened his eyes and pulled back, covering his mouth with his free hand. Deku had a dopey smile on his face.
“...Is that a yes? To my feelings?” His eyes sparkled and Katsuki, if that’s even possible, became even redder. “........Yes. Yes. Fuck you, fuck you, fuck you-” He bit Deku’s shoulder, the bitten one crying out in surprise. “No, hey, back off- Stop biting me!” Izuku hit his head. “Great job at ruining the moment!”
Katsuki pulled off of his shoulder and grumbled. “...Are you my boyfriend now, then…?” Deku stared at him. “...FUCK yes.” The younger replied. That’s the first time he heard Deku curse. And by the lords, he found it HOT.
He’d never admit that, tho.
They passed the rest of the evening, cuddling and kissing and finally being seen.
—
The next morning, Ochako knocked on Deku’s door, humming. “Wake up! We made Katsudon for breakfast!” Some rustling and stumbling noises were heard from inside, and moments later, a disheveled- BAKUGOU?! Opened the door.
Her jaw dropped. “Holy shit, Izu, you managed to bag him.” The boy in question had his scarred arms wrapped clingy around Bakugou’s waist, groaning. “Shutup. We’ll be there in a second.” Bakugou shut the door without another word, and turned around in the other’s arms.
“...Fuck. She's gonna tell everybody else.” Bakugou cursed. Izuku grumbled. “Don’t care. Didn’t ask. I’m hungry.” He finally untangled from the taller, and pulled on a new shirt, throwing an oversized one at Bakugou’s face. “Put this on. It fits you.” (btw they showered together b4 going to sleep yesterday dw)
Bakugou pulled his shirt off and quickly put on the clean one, grunting out a gruff ‘thanks’. Deku nodded and walked out of his dorm, the blonde close behind him. The taller grabbed his hand, and they continued walking until they were right in front of the doors of the living room.
“Are you ready?” Katsuki mumbled. “No.” Deku snorted out, but pushed the doors open anyway.
“CONGRATS ON BEING GAY WE SUPPORT YOU!!!!!” Kirishima screamed the MOMENT the door opened and they appeared, holding up a pride banner. Flags were hung up everywhere, and Denki was hanging up a gay pride flag.
Everybody was cheering, congratulating them. “Took you two long enough!” A familiar voice spoke behind them. They snapped their heads around. “ALL MIGHT?!” They both screamed, Deku’s face going red.
The old man grinned, patting his successor’s shoulder. “Congrats, my boy!” He then turned towards Bakugou. “Hurt him and I’ll make sure to break your legs with my last strength.” That uncle definitely wasn’t joking about that…
Katsuki sweat dropped and stepped a bit behind Deku. Izuku flushed redder at the threat his father figure made. How embarrassing. Todoroki appeared behind them, offering them both a steaming bowl of katsudon. “Happy gay day. Or something. I don’t know.” It smelled HEAVENLY.
Deku stared at his boyfriend(his boyfriend! How neat is that?) and walked over to the table, sitting down and immediately digging into the katsudon. Bakugou watched him wolf it down, and dug into his own.
Their friends surrounded them, all grinning, cheering, and laughing like a big happy family.
They both had never felt better.
