"Myth, I think... I know why you always wear that mask when we go hunting."
"Oh really? Do enlighten me."
Myth was cleaning her sword after a long day of hunting krill. Her tiger mask was thrown haphazardly to the side.
"You're ashamed. You know what you're doing is wrong, and you're ashamed."
She thinks I don't notice how she seems to care so little for it despite claiming it her most beloved possession, second to her sword of course.
"No!" Myth retorted too quickly and I only grinned. "Why would I be ashamed? I'm doing the right thing. You on the other hand-"
I rolled my eyes. "Yeah yeah. I'm only in this for my little experiments, sure. But I'm helping, aren't I?"
"Barely..."
"Well don't you need the help? Have you seen the state of your cape?"
Myth looked back at her tattered cape, her winged light was barely clinging to it and Myth herself could barely fly with it in this state.
"It's fine!" she insisted. "Besides, all you do is cowar like a... Coward-! While I do all the hard work... I don't even know what Light does. They always run off alone doing who knows what!"
"Light works better alone. We both know this and they've always come to save you when you get krilled and I'm not around."
Myth huffed.
"I know why you always get hurt too," I continued.
Myth didn't reply, scrubbing stubbornly at her sword which had long been fully cleaned.
"It's the same reason you wear that mask... Ever since I discovered that they used to be light creatures, you've been acting differently. I'm worried about you."
She had stopped scrubbing her sword but she wouldn't reply. She stared off into the distance, her eyes blank.
"But you were always ashamed. Maybe deep down you always knew. Light knew before I did too, so I wouldn't be surprised... Light was never ashamed though, and I'm not now. We know what has to be done, no matter the cost."
"I know what has to be done too. I started this whole thing, remember?" Myth retorted but doubt creeped into her voice.
"Yeah yeah. Sure you do."
Silence.
"All I'm saying is you can't separate yourself from who you are." I pointed to the mask, lying slanted where Myth had thrown it so carelessly. "Do you want to be her? Do you want to fight with us?"
I moved my finger over to point at her own face. "Or do you want to be her? Be a coward like Nimbus and Enki?"
Then I shrugged. "The choice is yours, of course. I'll leave you to think."
And so I left her. I could feel her eyes on my back as I left. But I knew the next time I saw her she would be wearing that mask. Her mind was simple that way.
