Chapter 1: Complete, Perpetual, Gravity.

Chapter Text

Mirei.
That's her name.

Step 1: Wake up.
She wakes at the same time every day, right before the sun rises. There is no alarm to turn off, Mirei doesn't require an alarm to know when to wake up.
Mirei makes her bed, the imprint she left on the mattress quickly disappearing as she fits the sheets. To an outsider, the bed looks completely untouched.

Step 2: Shower.
The water warms up to exactly 39 degrees Celsius in fifteen seconds exactly, just as it does every morning.

Mirei knows exactly how much to move the shower handle. She needs exactly ten minutes, no more no less. She doesn't drip a single drop of water onto the floor, as she reaches for a towel.

Step 3: Dress.
A crisp white shirt, not a single crinkle, tucked perfectly into a pair of high waisted black pants. Suspenders are perfectly symmetrical and straight around her shoulders, boots tied with the same exact length of the laces. Black nitrile gloves are slipped on, they never have a single crease around her hand. Ever.

Step 4: Eat.
1 egg omelette, not a single drop of yolk on her pristine counter. Mirei cuts the vegetables exactly in half. 2 slices of toast are put in the toaster, no timer necessary. When she's ready, the front of their foot dips, and the tips of her toes tap the floor twice. As if on cue, the toast shoots from the toaster, perfectly yellowed and not a single crumb. She eats without leaving any mess. She cleans the plate without a single drop of water splashing on her clothes.

Step 5: School.
She makes her way to school, leaving at the exact same time she always does.
Her steps are the exact same length, the cadence of her boots clicking on the floor as consistent as a metronome. Her unhurried pace is so consistent you could tell the time with it.

And she arrives at school, not paying attention to any of the students, not bothered by anyone, even if a few students look her way due to her inhumanely consistent gait, and the fact she is not adhering to the dress code. Mirei is not in a skirt despite being a woman, and the red jacket that the school requires as a uniform requirement is absent… Although most are too distracted to notice.
She walks into class and goes to an unoccupied seat near the center of the classroom.

The moment she sits down, the bell rings signalling the start of the first class of the first day of the semester.. and Mirei’s first day at the private academy.
