Where Life Takes You Next

Summary:

Blaire never expected her life to change so much. She’s focused, excited, and ready to step into her new chapter—literally. But when she opens a long, unexpectedly vulnerable letter from Wren, the older girl who recruited her, everything she thought she understood about their friendship shifts. What follows is a slow-burning spark neither of them can ignore: lingering glances, late-night conversations, and a magnetic tension that pulls them closer with every passing second. Wren is warm, steady, and off-limits. Blaire is bright, impulsive, and suddenly completely undone by the possibility of something more. As the two fall into an undeniable connection—full of butterflies, fear, laughter, and stolen moments—Blaire begins to imagine a future she never knew she wanted. But with chapter politics, rumors, and the risk of crossing a line hovering over them, the world outside their bubble threatens to complicate everything.

Chapter 1: Introduction

Chapter Text

BEEP BEEP BEEP. Three loud beeps and I know it's time to get up. With that beep comes three little sets of feet running. As that sound means their alarm color changed and they know that they can come into our bedroom.
“Weekend snuggles,” Tainsley yells, jumping into bed with us. Ryder and Arlo are not far behind her. I pick Arlo up onto the bed while Ryder hops right up and goes right over to Mama.
“Mama, mama wake up, it's weekend snuggle time,” he yells with excitement as he shakes her awake.
“Good morning to you too Ryder.”
I chuckle as I pick Luna up out of her bassinet, “Be gentle with mama Ryder you-”
“I know, I know we don’t want to have to take her back to the hospital for more stitches.”
I smiled back. I walked Luna over to Mama in bed to feed her breakfast. “What show or movie do we want to watch this morning?” I asked the kids waiting eagerly for our weekend to begin.
“Monkey Town,” Arlo babbled.
“Princess Fairytails,” Tainsley added.
“Monster Truck Smash,” Ryder yelled over the rest.
“Alright looks like Mama’s picking them if we can't agree.”
“No!” They all yelled together.
“What about that new movie with the babies running the place?” Mama adds while they all look confused. “I promise you guys will like it.”
So I put on the movie and went out to the kitchen. With Mama now resting, that means I am in charge of food. Which is equally a danger for everyone. No homemade pancakes, or waffles with faces. Eggo waffles and eggs with some apple juice will do. I get all three plates together and take them to the kids, Star and Brock trailing behind me. They already put up their bed tray before I got there. I set down the plates and got their drinks. “What would you like for breakfast my love?”
“Two waffles and some eggs are good for me.” I nodded and went to the kitchen and made our breakfast. Hearing the kids laughing, the TV playing, and the dogs’ toys squeaking, I smiled to myself. This is it, this is what it was all for. Moments like this, together, having fun, loving each other unconditionally, making memories to last forever. I brought in our food and lay back down next to her, taking Luna from her so she could eat and have a break.
“Thank you angel,” she said with a smile on her face. I kissed her on her head.
We both sat there looking at the kids, the breakfast, and this tradition of weekend snuggles we somehow started. Our gazes met, and we just smiled. We did it. I thought to myself. Our family is something we never expected to get to today. But here we are, lots of hard work, a lot of time, but we made it. I gave her a short little peck and we went back to eating and watching the movie. Taking in every little second because you never know where life will take you next.
