Chapter Text
It was a typical day for Kris.
1.Wake up
2.Go back to sleep
3.Wake up again
4.Go to school
5.Fall asleep in class
6.Wake up for the third time
7.Get woken up by Susie and walk home together
They were currently on step 6 of their daily routine when suddenly..
“Kris!”
“Kris wake up!”
They opened their groggy eyes with a yawn and awoke with a confused look on their face. They looked up to see Berdly holding his textbooks with a slight annoyed look on his face. Once he realized Kris had woken up, his expression softened.
“Where’s Susie?”
“Since you were asleep the whole class, (as usual) I’ll have to fill you in.” “Ms.Alphys has assigned group projects and we’re partners.” “Also Susie’s with Noelle, wherever they are.”
Berdly grabs a few sheets of paper from his folder and drops them on the table, they land gracefully. “I know you don’t take notes.. so you can borrow mine for today.” After a few seconds of silence, Berdly spoke.“I was wondering if we could go to the library to study? I know you don’t pay much attention to the lectures Ms.Alphys gives us.” waiting for Kris’s answer he blushes and looks away, wondering what their response will be.
“Yeah.”
“We should get going then, the library closes early today.”
“How do you know?” While making small talk, Kris pulls out their phone (doing idk)
“ Ive told you guys I work there, and no you cannot get a discount for a book that’s past due. They might as well let you keep the books, considering “How to Draw Dragons” was rented five years ago and never returned.”
“Jeez.. I was just asking”
During their short walk to the library Berdly had to pull Kris out of the street multiple times due to the fact that they’re on their phone. “Do you ever watch where you’re going? Especially when you’re on the sidewalk?” Kris rolls their eyes and curses at Berdly in sign language using their free hand. “I’ll walk on the outside of the sidewalk.” Berdly grabs Kris by the shoulder and nudges them to the inside. “ What are you, my Mom?” Kris gives a sarcastic grin then goes back to their resting face. “What am I going to do when you get hit by a car like a deer in headlights because you won’t watch where you’re going?” “Also I would be your dad, I’m not a girl.”They both continued jabbing at each other (mostly Berdly) the conversation then turned into their favorite games (again, mostly Berdly) until they were at their destination.
Kris and Berdly weren’t best friends, but to call them “not friends” would be a lie. They had kept up this fake rivalry shtick for years, yet never thought to interact with each other when not with Noelle and Susie. Even then, despite the connection between the two being confusing, Kris has fallen victim to many of Berdlys rambling sessions, this being one of them.
The conversation died down, and eventually they were both walking in silence. The human noticed Berdly fidgeting with his watch, and plucking various out of place feathers and couldn’t help but ask,
“ Why did you stop talking?”
“What do you mean Kris?”
“You were being all passionate some game you were talking about and now you’re not talking?”
“You weren’t responding to me, so I figured you didn’t want to hear me rambling again.” Berdly chuckles uncomfortably
“I like hearing you talk, keep going.”
Berdly turned his head away for a second, in order to make sure no one sees the massive patch of blush spreading across his feathers.
Suddenly, Berdly and Kris were at their destination. They both walked into the library and sat down, Kris awkwardly stood to the side while Berdly greeted Mrs. Boom at the counter, they both walked into the computer lab.
