Winter Carnival

Summary:

Logan and Patton visit a winter carnival, and run into one of Logan's students.

Notes:

Order up!

Small latte with heavy cream, loganberry, peach, and powdered sugar.
Thank you for ordering at the Sleep Bean Cafe!

This prompt was so cute, it was a delight to write.

Work Text:

"Here you are, Patton," Logan says, handing his husband a cup of hot chocolate. Patton smiles and presses his cold lips to Logan's just as cold cheeks as he takes the cup.

"Thank you, my dear," Patton says, letting the paper cup warm his hands before actually taking a sip. They had been at this winter carnival their city's library was hosting for an hour, and despite the many layers of coats, gloves, and scarfs, both of their cheeks and ears were pink. They had made it to the end of the second to last row of booths and found one of the local cafe's selling drinks, so Logan had gone and ordered something to warm them both. Patton lets out a hum of satisfaction as he pulls the cup away from his mouth. "This is really good! What flavor is it?"

"It was banana and chocolate. I thought you would enjoy it." Patton beams and nods at him, and Logan holds out his hand. "Shall we continue?"

The two of them continue on to the last row of booths, looking at baked and handmade goods from local vendors. The tote bag Patton had brought was already filled up with goods from previous vendors, but he managed to find room for a set of puppy-themed ornaments for their Christmas tree.

"Mr. Quinn!"

Both Logan and Patton turned instinctively, given the fact that they both share the name. Although when they turned, it became clear to them which one of them was being called for. Logan pulled his hand away from Patton's, to maintain some appearance of professionalism as one of his students approached the couple.

"Hello, Virgil," Logan said with a slight smile. Virgil smiled back, an occurrence that had become frequent only over the course of the semester Logan had be teaching him. His smile was slightly sheepish, and he might have been blushing if his cheeks weren't already red from the cold (that black hoodie he was wearing was not warm enough for how cold it was outside). "It's good to see you. How has your break been?"

"It's been fine. Been working a lot." Virgil said, "I'm sorry to bother you but I just wanted to ask really quick if we could find a time to go over college stuff together? I've been working on applications for schools and scholarships and stuff but I would like to have you look over it before I submit anything, if that's alright?"

"Are you sure you want my assistance? You were planning to pursue art, weren't you?" Logan asked, and Virgil nodded. "I don't know anything about art, I'm certain that Mrs. Northcliffe or Mr. Hayes would be much better suited-"

"I know, I know. I'm just not as… comfortable, with them?" Virgil said, playing with the strings of his hoodie. He quickly added on, "Not that I don't like them or anything! I just haven't talked to them as much."

"Well, if you're certain, I would be happy to help you with your college admissions, Virgil. My door is usually closed to students during lunch, but if you knock I'll let you in. Will that work for you?" Logan asked. Virgil grinned and nodded.

"That will be perfect. Thanks, Mr. Quinn!" Virgil left with a wave and a promise that they'd see each other after the break. Patton intertwined their fingers again and gave Logan a sly smile.

"And you say you're not good with kids."

"Virgil is an adult. You very well know that I teach twelve graders because I'm not good with kids," Logan argued as they made their way back to their car.

"Teenagers are just bigger kids," Patton said, bumping Logan's shoulder with his own. Logan hummed, and they were quiet for a moment, "you know, we don't have to adopt a baby. They're hard to come by anyway. We could adopt a big kid."

"I suppose that is true…"

"If that'll put you more at ease next week, I'm happy to talk about it."

"How about when we get home," Logan says, pressing a kiss to Patton's forehead.
