“Thanks for meeting me here!” Ren gave Martyn a warm smile. Martyn smiled back, noticing but not commenting on the slight side to side movement of Ren’s tail.
“Of course! I’m glad you invited me,” He offered his hand, watching as Ren took it with hardly any hesitation at all. Ren, with a cheeky grin, tugged him forwards and into the line of trees ahead of them, picking up a basket as the two moved into the apple orchard.
“Have a favorite apple?” He gestured to the wide selection of apple trees. Martyn shrugged.
“Why don’t you pick?” He responded. Ren gave him a long look, as if trying to judge of Martyn really cared or not before leading him off towards the honeycrisp trees.
Once they had delved into the trees with luscious fruits hanging off the branches, Ren scooped up Martyn, who in surprise clung on as Ren raced deeper.
“I can walk myself,” Martyn protested, only to be met with a mischievous smirk.
“I know,” Ren hoisted Martyn upwards. “But now you can reach the higher branches too.”
Martyn didnt argue any further, not quite wanting Ren to drop him. He looked up to see a few apples that were higher up that he could reach, and with a quick swipe he snatched one.
Ren watched with a smile.
Martyn dropped the apple into the basket Ren was simultaneously carrying, before Ren moved a few steps, allowing Martyn to grab a few more.
They continued on for a bit.
Once the basket was about a two thirds full, Martyn looked down at Ren, exchanging a grin before his gaze moved to Ren’s arms, still holding him strong.
“You can set me down now,” Martyn said, “since your arms might be tired.” Ren just gave Martyn an affectionate squeeze, not showing any signs of fatigue at all.
“I think I’d rather keep holding you.”
“Alright,” Martyn laughed a bit, but he didn’t push to get away, not minding Ren’s hug.
“Few more and then we’re done?” He didn’t really think both him and Ren would be able to finish the apples even with the amount they already had. Ren nodded his agreement and he moved further into the grove of apples.
Martyn was able to pick a few more apples, and just as he was reaching for another, Ren stumbled over something.
The two of them tumbled over into the grass, until Martyn found himself laying half on his side, next to Ren, who was facing upwards.
“Sorry-” Ren started, only to be cut off by a soft laugh from Martyn.
“Nah it’s alright, we probably have enough anyways.” He turned onto his back, looking up at the sky, the trees just on the edge of his vision.
Beside him, Ren made no effort to move.
They stared up for a bit, clouds tinted slightly orange from the sun beginning to set drifted overhead and small patches, never once covering the sun, leaving the whole apple grove bathed in light.
Martyn sat up, he scooted closer to Ren and leaned over.
