“Come on, Riles, you have to come. I heard it’s gonna be tubular.”

Sixteen-year-old Riley Tozier was in her room lying on her bed phone to her ear listening to her best friend Beverly Marsh try to convince her to go with her to Bill Denbrough’s party.

“I don’t know, Bev. I mean this is the first time me and my mom are spending the holidays by ourselves after the divorce besides I can’t leave her especially not now,” Riley said, biting her bottom lip and staring up at the ceiling.

“Please just come for half of the party. Besides, I heard Eddie Kaspbrak is gonna be there.”

Riley quickly sat up staring at her Kate Bush poster which was taped to her door eyes blown wide and a blush starting to creep it’s way up onto her cheeks after hearing the name of her crush since the second grade. “Did you just say that Eddie Kaspbrak is gonna be there as in the same Eddie who won the science fair just last month.

“The one and only.”

Not being able to see her best friend, Riley could just tell Beverly was smirking on the other end.

“Fine I’ll come but only for a little while,” Riley sighed, finally giving in trying her best to hide the excitement she was feeling after learning that her longtime crush was gonna be there.

“Thank god you finally agreed I thought for sure that I would have to drive to your house and drag you out while you're still in your pajamas.”

Riley rolled her eyes even though Beverly couldn’t see her a small smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “Just give me five minutes tops to find my most prettiest dress and for me to do a little bit of make up.”

“Do my ears deceive me or is Riley Margaret Tozier getting all dolled up so she can finally get laid by the one and only Eddie Kaspbrak?”

“Remind me why we’re friends again,” Riley deadpanned, as she rolled her eyes so far that she could almost see her skull.

“Because you love me.”

“Unfortunately,” Riley sighed.

“I’ll be at your house around ten and you better be ready by then. Later, alligator.”

After they hung up on one another, Riley made her way to her closet determined to find the perfect outfit that would make Eddie’s jaw drop. As soon as she found it she quickly got dressed before applying makeup and leaving her room after hearing a car honk signaling that Beverly had arrived.

Now here the two friends were sitting out in Beverly’s car as she applied yet another coat of lipstick onto her lips making sure that it pops so she could impress her boyfriend Ben Hanscom.

“Come on, Bev, Ben doesn’t care about your appearance knowing him when he first sees you he’s gonna drag you to the first empty room and fuck you senseless,” Riley said smirking.

Beverly turned bright red. “Beep beep Riley.”

As they finally made their way into Bill’s house they were actually surprised with how many people showed up watching as teens were dancing around the living room, getting drunk or making out in secluded corners but Beverly wasn’t really paying attention to busy standing on her tip toes in search for her boyfriend.

“I’m gonna go find Ben. Are you going to be alright by yourself, Riles?” Beverly asked, starting to walk off.

“I’ll be fine, Bev. Now go find your man and use protection,” she said, laughing when Beverly flipped her off before making her way to the kitchen to get a nice cold beverage to drink.

She soon walked off to stand at the end of the stairs dancing to the beat of the music and taking a sip from her drink every once in a while not realizing that she was underneath a mistletoe until she was face to face with none other than Eddie Kaspbrak.

“Hi, I know this may sound weird but I think we should kiss,” he said, rubbing the back of his neck and staring at his feet in embarrassment.

“What?” Riley asked, looking flabbergasted and trying her hardest not to look flustered.

“We’re standing underneath a mistletoe,” Eddie said, pointing above their heads.

“Oh…” she said.

“We don’t have to if--“ he began, only to get cut off when she grabbed his shirt pulling him in for a kiss.

As soon as they pulled away they were both a blushing mess.

“I have been dreaming of this day since the second grade,” Eddie said.

“Really?” Riley asked, looking at him in shock.

“Yeah but I was too chicken to admit my feelings until tonight when I saw you standing over here by yourself,” he said.

“Did you plan for us to be standing underneath a mistletoe so we can kiss?” She asked.

“Maybe,” Eddie said, shrugging. “So what do you say Riley Tozier will be my girlfriend?”

“I love to be your girlfriend, Eddie Kaspbrak,” Riley said, smiling from ear to ear.

Riley didn’t want to come to this stupid party in the first place wanting to just spend her days lying in her room wishing that she could have a normal holiday without thinking about her parents messy divorce but she’s glad that she came as her and Eddie lean in to kiss for the second time that night while Beverly was watching them from a distance looking like a proud mother.
