The moon hung low in the sky, casting a silver glow over the quiet streets of Zootopia. Nick Wilde leaned back against the hood of his patrol car, his eyes fixed on the constellations twinkling above. His usual mischievous grin was softened by the peaceful calm of the moment, but something was missing.
"Hey, Carrots," he called, glancing over at Judy Hopps, who was sitting cross-legged on the hood of her own patrol car, her eyes also up in the sky.
"Hm?" Judy hummed, turning her head to meet his gaze, a small smile tugging at her lips.
You ever think about the stars?" he asked, his voice quieter than usual, almost as if the night itself had gotten to him. "I mean, there's gotta be some other world out there where foxes and bunnies just... get along from the start."
Judy chuckled softly, her ears flicking in thought. "Oh, I don’t know, Nick. I think it’s more fun the way we are—learning and growing together."
Nick raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Is that so? You’re not worried that one day, I’ll get bored of teasing you?"
Judy shook her head, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "You’ll never get bored of me, Nick Wilde. You love me too much."
Nick’s grin widened, his tail flicking in amusement. "Oh? And what makes you so sure about that, Officer Hopps?"
"Because," she said, leaning forward with a wink, "you can't stay away from my charm." She gave a playful wiggle of her ears for emphasis.
Nick laughed, shaking his head. "You’re impossible, you know that?"
"That’s what you love about me," she replied, leaning back again to look at the stars, her voice a little softer now. "Besides, I think... the way we found each other, it was meant to be."
Nick’s eyes softened, and he followed her gaze to the sky, the quiet hum of the city around them filling the space between their words. The stars seemed brighter tonight, as if they were both watching them—two mismatched, unlikely partners who’d come together to do something bigger than themselves.
"So... what do you think they’re doing up there? The stars, I mean?" Nick asked, his voice thoughtful now.
"I think they’re waiting for us," Judy said, her voice just above a whisper. "Just like us, waiting for our next big case, our next adventure… or maybe even our next little moment like this."
Nick nodded slowly, a soft smile crossing his face as he let the silence stretch between them, filled with the quiet comfort of just being there together.
"Well, whatever it is," he said after a moment, his grin returning, "I’m glad I’ve got you by my side for the ride."
Judy’s ears twitched, and she tilted her head toward him with a smile that was pure Judy Hopps—bright, determined, and full of love.
"Me too, Nick," she said softly. "Me too."
