Chapter Text
Micah was in his room when Michelle and Shiloh ran in. What could they possibly want now?
“We should take a break and go on a trip!”, they said together.
Micah thought about it hesitantly before giving in to the girls.
“Okay”, he replied reluctantly
So off they went to a nature site with big mountains and beautiful scenery.
After everyone arrived, dressed to walk for a while knowing what they were in for, Shiloh took ahold of the map Elijah had brought and guided her siblings and friends. Meanwhile, Jocelyn and Judah were bickering about who brought the food and water only to figure out Michelle had picked it up on her way out knowing they would forget.
Josiah and Daniel put on the most sunscreen and wore big hats to cover their faces which Elijah had laughed at but they said it was “smart people things” that he wouldn’t understand.
After a long while of walking and Judah trying to tell Shiloh to take the wrong turns, they had arrived to the top of the mountain. The sunset and calm breeze against the trees left them all breathless. Daniel and Elijah started setting up the phone stand to take photos.
“Alright everyone get in the frame!”, Shiloh ordered after awhile of the group arguing on where to stand. Everyone stood close to each other smiling with their arms wrapped around each other. “Cheese!”, they all said with big grins on their faces. After a couple of photos they had gathered around the phone to see all the photos. “I look the best”, proudly said Judah before Jocelyn interrupted him saying she was the cutest.
The group began to pack up their bags after a quick break to eat. Most of the group began to get up when Michelle handed Shiloh her phone and asked her to take a quick photo of her and Micah before pulling him up to pose with her. Shiloh grabbed the phone and opened it to see she had to put the password in. “Hey, what’s your password?”, she asked before Micah quickly grabbed it to unlock it easily, “I got it”, he said as he went back to pose with Michelle.
Shiloh scrolled to the camera app but couldn’t help but notice Michelle’s wallpaper, it seemed familiar but she didn’t know why in that moment. While taking the photo she couldn’t forget the fact that Micah automatically knew Michelle’s password especially since Michelle usually kept to herself. She handed the phone back to Michelle and the green Nelson. The photo captured the end of the sunset behind Micah with his arm wrapped around Michelle’s shoulder while she held his waist from behind.
The group was still waiting for them when they turned around. When they were back on the trail Micah and Michelle ran ahead leaving the group a good few steps behind them.
“Are we sure they’re just friends?”, Jocelyn asked the group while still piggybacking Judah.
“Absolutely not, they just don’t see it”, Josiah said while the group murmured agreements.
Up ahead, Michelle started slowing down after getting tried from all the walking.
“You alright?”, Micah asked stepping closer to her, waiting for her answer.
“Uh yeah”, she responded but Micah knew her well enough to know she wasn’t so he wrapped his arm around her to help keep her steady while walking down the trail.
The rest of the group was staring at their interaction from behind, jaws still dropped. They were happy for them but utterly disappointed they hadn’t realized their clear feelings for each other yet. “Can we force them into a room until they confess?”, Jocelyn asked the group jokingly.
“That’s not a bad idea actually”, Elijah replied.
After a while of more walking Michelle had regained her energy so Micah hadn’t put much effort into helping her steady anymore which led to his hand slowly retreating throughout the walk. They’d gotten so use to the touch that by the end they were just holding hands still not realizing what they were doing. They spent the rest of the walk chatting about random things while still holding hands. They had gotten distracted talking that they didn’t realize they had slowed down to enjoy the moment of walking together. Eventually, the group had caught up to them and were just about 4 steps behind them.
“Sorry to interrupt whatever this is lovebirds”, said Daniel.
“Ok, ok, we get it, we’ll shut up and enjoy the view”, responded Micah. Both of them thought Daniel was referring to them talking the whole way down not realizing he was talking about their intertwined hands. They still kept their promise and actually shut up.
“Oh my god, they’re so clueless”, Jocelyn said.
“They really thought you were talking about their conversation”, Shiloh asked Daniel rhetorically. By now the whole group was giggling quietly behind the pink and green agents.
When they finally made it to the bottom of the trail they let out a sigh of relief. “That was great and all but please never make me walk that long again”, Judah begged Shiloh.
They walked towards their cars. Elijah had arrived with Daniel and Josiah while Judah, Jocelyn, Shiloh, Michelle, and Micah had arrived together. Micah pulled out his keys with his free hand and unlocked the car. When they approached the car Micah held the passenger side door open for Michelle. It was only when Micah lifted his hand to help her climb aboard that they realized what they had been doing. Both Micah and Michelle turned red while the rest of the group bursted out laughing.
“Oh”, Micah said quietly to Michelle
“This is what Daniel was talking about wasn’t he?”, Michelle asked Micah quietly.
“When did we even..you know..”, Micah asked Michelle while gesturing to their hands.
“Since we began the walk down”, Jocelyn said to them.
“Oh”, they responded turning even redder now.
Once they were all inside the car and Micah started driving Shiloh, Judah, and Jocelyn were teasing them. “You two looked real happy together”, Shiloh told them.
“Ya, ya, we get it, we held hands, but it was just an accident”, Micah said, though he blushed a bit hearing those words come out his own mouth, “We actually held hands for that long”, Micah thought to himself.
“Can I be the flower girl at your wedding?”, Jocelyn asked the pair not all that innocently.
“We-uhh uhm”, stuttered Michelle while full on blushing, unsure how to respond to the little girl.
Micah caught off her thoughts when he announced they had made it to the gas station.
“Seat switches”, Micah reminded them.
Shiloh went inside to pay for the gas while Judah moved to the passenger seat and Micah took the left window seat in the back, letting Michelle sit in the middle and Jocelyn stay in the right window seat of the back. After fueling the car up again they hit the road. Shiloh focused on driving while Judah yapped to her about random things he saw back at the mountain trail.
Meanwhile, in the back seats, Micah had offered Michelle his right earbud that she accepted. He handed her his phone and let her pick the playlist. They fell into a comfortable silence while Jocelyn stared at them in disbelief realizing she was a third wheel in that moment. Eventually, Michelle started to doze off and let her head relax against Micah’s shoulder. Jocelyn watched as she saw that Micah didn’t even look surprised as if it were normal between them. A little while after Michelle fell asleep, Micah leaned his head on top of hers and dozed off after pausing the music.
Jocelyn whispered to Judah to turn around and look at the pair. As soon as Judah saw them he whipped out his phone and started taking pictures. He giggled as he told Shiloh what had happened knowing she had to keep her eyes on the road. Shiloh began giggling with Judah and Jocelyn. Judah then sent all the photos to their group chat.
‘Look at our lovebirds’
‘WHAA’, responded Elijah
‘How did Micah of all people get a girlfriend before me?!?!’, texted Josiah
‘Aww look at them’, responded Britney from headquarters, ‘Sorry I couldn’t come with you guys’, she added.
‘No worries’, responded Judah
‘Just wait until they wake up and see these messages’, responded Josiah with a laughing emoji.
Jocelyn thought about how to tease them even more when an idea popped into her head. She leaned over and grabbed Micah’s phone, putting it up to his face to unlock it. She went to open up Spotify and put on “From the Start” but didn’t press play. She waited for a couple minutes until she saw them starting to wake up. She quickly pressed play from his lock-screen to fully wake them up. She chose this song because everyone knew how Michelle felt about Micah and Talia getting closer.
Both Micah and Michelle were now fully awake and listening to the song. Micah noticed how Michelle looked at him hopelessly when the “Oh, how I wish you’ll wake up one day, run to me, confess your love”, part came up. Michelle felt Micah staring at her when the lyrics “And I sound like a loon, but don’t you feel it too?”, came but she didn’t say anything. Finally, when the lyrics “Love is driving me a bit insane” came they both looked straight into each other’s eyes at the same time. They had a look in their eyes that said everything they wish they could say out loud in that moment. Their faces were tinted with a hint of pink when they blushed at the moment.
By now, Judah had fallen asleep up front and Jocelyn was still looking at Micah and Michelle. When the song ended Micah noticed the text messages from the group chat and clicked the notification from 30 minutes ago. Micah saw the photos of him and Michelle sleeping with their heads leaning into each other while sharing the wired earbuds. By now, Michelle was looking at the pictures and reading the messages with Micah. She was blushing a lot and couldn’t help but smile so she leaned her head against his chest to hide her face. Judah had woken up and recorded their reactions.
Jocelyn was giggling off in the corner. Micah heard Michelle whine, “They seriously called me your girlfriend”, against his chest. Micah thought, “Is the thought really that bad to you?”, but just responded with a simple “Yup”.
Michelle could see she had said something wrong. She pulled out of his touch and grabbed her phone before texting to him, ‘Maybe I wouldn’t mind it though’ , before going back to hug him. He saw the text message and smiled that smile he only did for her.
Michelle fell back asleep against him but Micah couldn’t sleep. His mind kept replaying that song, “Is that how she really feels?”, he thought. He pushed those thoughts down, surely Michelle would never like a guy like him. “It was just a song”, he lied to himself, had he given her any signals that he liked someone else? What was he thinking, “liking someone else”, he doesn’t even like Michelle- “do I?”- he pondered. He always felt something around Michelle that he didn’t feel around anyone else. She made him feel safe and secure. “I- I think I actually do like her”, he thought, the realization hitting him hard. Were their friends right all along? But Micah felt a heavy pain in his heart thinking that Michelle would never like him. And even if she did feel what that song described what would make her think that Micah could love anyone else like he did her? Micah looked down to see her sleeping body leaning into him. He would figure out what to do another day.
