You’ve Cat To Be Kidding Me

Summary:

While investigating the area around the red stone, a heavy snowstorm arose, endangering both Kishiar’s live—with his newly stabilised vessel—as Nathan‘s.

That was until a cat decided to help them.

Extra information about this AU, contains some spoilers (around chapter 1200)?
  • Red stone resulted in big weather changes causing Kishiar having to investigate earlier
  • Every shapeshifter follows their own animal instincts and habits. If they go against it for a while they’ll start to feel nauseous and uncomfortable. If they ignore that, they’ll eventually get sick
  • Yuder’s grandfather was Luma’s reincarnation (stole this from the wiki) and is not a shifter himself, only researched it
  • Yuder’s grandfather eventually contacted Enon when Yuder got sick, so Enon knows from the notation above
  • The grandfather told Enron it was alright to leave the seventh wall district, so Enon used to visit, sharing a room with the old man, and when he died permanently moved in to take care for Yuder

Notes:

Warning:
This is my first ever fic made so beware it’s cringe

The only reason I wrote this anyway, was because I love cat/panther Yuder and I’ve read all those fics.

Tips, kuddos, bookmarks, comments: all are appreciated

A Happy new year to everyone!

Work Text:

“Your Grace, Sir Zuckerman. Happy to see you’ve arrived safely.” Gino Bodelli, general of the southern army, said to the two men as they dismounted from their horses and landed in the snow. One was a bit taller than then the other and both were wearing warm clothes for the cold.

“Likewise, general,” a man whose face was almost fully covered by his cloak retorted. “How is the situation?” “The weather has been stable, but as you can see—or feel, it is freezing cold. Though, we don’t expect it to get suddenly worse,” the general answered. “But you should be tired. Let me show the way to your tents, the Paletta knights can stay with the others.” “Alright, lead the way,” the tall man answered with a smile while the other just nodded.

A few months ago, a stone fell from the sky, turning the air for about a minute and a half blood red. Since then all sorts of people have underwent a change within their bodies. They acquired powers and some of them also got a second gender. One of those was the Duke of Paletta, Kishiar La Orr. The day he awakened, his vessel that felt as it was about to explode, suddenly stabilised. Soon after, he manifested into an alpha.

The emperor ordered general Bodelli to secure the surroundings of the red stone until it was able to be retrieved and examined. And since Kishiar was an awakened, he, together with his most trusted adjutant Nathan Zuckerman and a few of his Paletta knights, were asked to try to get close to it, to examine it further. They didn’t yet have to retrieve it, if it wasn’t deemed save enough, but if they could, they should. The only downside was that since the stone fell, the weather changed and instead of the cooler autumn days, the snow was falling on the trees that had yet to shed their leafs.

After Kishiar and Nathan were in their tent and Gino had left, Kishiar asked: “Nathan, do you feel anything strange?” The other man answered: “Not necessarily… do you think something is wrong, your grace?”

For a moment, there was no answer as the man took of his cloak, revealing his bright blond hair and sparkling red eyes. It was no wonder why people called him the reincarnation of the sun god. “Not really, it’s just my gut telling me something interesting might take place.” Nathan looked at him a bit questioning, but he just smiled brightly and said: “Looks like they’ve left some dinner for us. Let eat and rest first and head out to explore the area a bit. After, we can go see the infamous stone.”

꧁✪꧂

After some rest and food Kishiar notified the general and Nathan the Paletta knights, that they were briefly going to explore the surrounding area. The general offered to come along or at least lend some of his knights since they already knew the area, but Kishiar respectfully declined.

“Should I alert the knights, your grace?” “Ah, no. It would be better if it was just us two.” Nathan looked slightly confused at his lord. “Your grace?” “Everyone is still tired, so it’s better to let them rest. And besides, it’s much more fun to explore for ourselves, isn’t it?” Kishiar answered with a bright smile on his face. Meanwhile, Nathan inwardly sighed about his lords behaviour. He ignored the last question and asked instead: “Does this have something to do with that gut feeling from earlier?” Kishiar laughed and retorted: “Sharp as always! I wouldn’t expect anything else from my most trusted aide. But yes.”

“Are you sure about going only with sir Zuckerman, your grace?” General Gino asked again, worry showing on his face. “Don’t worry too much, general. We’ll stay close enough to find our way back in this weather, but I think it’s better to first look around with our own eyes.” “Alright…”
Gino still looked unsure when Kishiar was about to leave the tent they were staying in. “If there’s an emergency, please fire a flare. We will come to you’re aid immediately.”

After Kishiar stepped away, he reunited with Nathan who already had two warm cloaks and bags and handed one of both to him.
“Thank you, Nathan.” When both were geared up, they walked away from the snowy field, into the dense forest of the Airic mountains.

At first, they walked relatively close to the area were they stayed, but after some time they walked deeper into the forest and saw a dead monster laying on the ground which looked like a fierce battle had taken place. He and Nathan cautiously looked closer, but couldn’t see much due to the snow already piling up.

“It shouldn’t be too long ago since it was killed,” Nathan said. Kishiar nodded. “Yes… weird isn’t it? I was informed that the nearest town was a few days travel at most, so which predator killed this…”
Like him, Nathan looked back at the monster. “We should go back. The snow is starting to pile up faster than earlier.”

Unbeknownst to them that that decision was already made to late. As they were walking back—or at least trying to—they found themselves lost in no time. In the span of approximately fifteen minutes, a snowstorm erupted without warning—turning their vision to almost nothing, which lead to Nathan grabbing his arm to make sure they didn’t lose each other.

‘I think we’re lost.’ Kishiar looked around while they rested under a big pine tree which sheltered them from the piles of snow that continued falling. They barely had any vision so if they fired the flare it would be useless, and it was even colder then before. Their cloaks were soaked and he had to force himself to not shiver from how cold he had it. If he had to guess, Nathan was doing the same.

“Your grace…” Nathan looked at him with a worried expression. They both knew that his vessel was doing better, but also that this was not the best condition to put it in as it had not fully stabilised.

He smiled at his adjutant and said: “I’m still alright, but we need to find a shelter soon or we’ll probably freeze to death.” He tried to make the latter sound like a joke, but he didn’t know if he succeeded. Nathan nodded and added: “Maybe there’s a shelter nearby of the person who killed that monster…” It was a gamble, but they didn’t have any other option. “Let’s continue then.”

꧁✪꧂

“Cough, cough.”

‘This isn’t good.’ He covered his mouth with his gloved hand and felt Nathan’s piercing eyes on him. They had walked for a while now with no shelter in sight. At the beginning Nathan only held him by his arm, but after a while he had to support his lord while they continued walking, trying to stay warm. “Your grace—” “I’m fine, we need to keep moving.” He felt another cough coming up as he said that, but stubbornly suppressed it.

Suddenly something small and black flashed trough the white threes—or so he thought. ‘It isn’t a good sign if I start to hallucinate now.’ But that thought was quickly disproved since he saw it again. With a bit of a hoarse voice he signalled his adjutant. “Nathan, look over there—cough, cough!” He felt him tense up whether it was from him coughing suddenly or if he noticed the small thing slowly coming closer. Maybe both, since he also felt Nathan grabbing his sword.

But it seemed their caution was unnecessary, because they had stood still since they saw the small creature, itself had cautiously come closer and closer. Eventually, when it stood almost close enough to be touched, they could make out what it was. “It’s a cat?” He heard Nathan call out with a hint of wary.

They both stared at the cat who in turn was staring at them. Then it slowly turned around, walked a few steps and looked back. ‘I might be going crazy but…’ “Do you want us to follow you?” He asked the cat, expecting some kind of comment from Nathan, but the latter surprisingly stayed silent. ‘He too must be at his maximum.’ The cat answered—or so he thought—with a nod. He gave a quick glance at Nathan who gave a short nod. The decision was quick and they started to walk after the cat.

Every now and then it looked around, checking if they were still following him as he lead them through the woods. Due to the storm, Kishiar couldn’t completely make out its appearance, except for the fact that it’s fur seemed to be as black as a void. He was walking on full auto pilot, supported by Nathan. He didn’t feel his legs—or anything anymore. What he did feel was his legs were about to give out, but before they could he saw something that looked like a house. In the corner of his eye, he saw Nathan also looking fixated on that place. The cat meowed quirky and quickens it’s pace as did they, somehow finding last bits of energy knowing that they were almost there.

When they arrived the cat was sitting in front of the door and meowed once loudly. Nathan, still holding him, was about to step forward to knock, but the door was abruptly opened by a lemon eyed men with rough grey hair who looked quite mad and mumbled: “You’ve got to be kidding me.” ‘Maybe a hint of worry too?’ It took one glance from the man to them to grab the cat by its scruff—which meowed confused—and beckoned them to come inside. “And hurry, you both look like walking copses,” he added.

The moment they stepped inside they were hit by a wave of heat. The door closed behind them with a bang and Nathan helped him to sit down on a chair, before sitting next to him. While they had sat down, the man took the cat to another room, but came back quite shortly after. “What the hell do you think you two are doing, huh? Do you want to die? Take off those wet things of yours and put these on.” With those last words he threw a bunch of clothes to them.

“Meanwhile, I’ll check on that stupid brat. After I’m done I’ll try to find some blankets for you two and make some soup.” He then turned around and started walking towards the door he just came back from, but before he closed Kishiar said: “Thank you.” He couldn’t fully comprehend the grumbles that came out of the man as he closed the door, only something about ‘stupid kids wanting to die’.

He declined Nathan’s offer to help and started undressing himself. When only his underwear was left he grabbed a towel that was thrown with the clothes and dried himself off. Next to him, Nathan was doing the same. After he was done, he started dressing himself with the given clothes. Surprisingly they weren’t to small—the shirt was even a bit loose. ‘Mine do look a bit different then Nathan’s. If I have to guess, those are the grey haired man’s clothes, whose I wear is still a question.’ They tossed their wet clothes into a corner and sat back down again.

He glanced around, taking the place in, which Nathan probably had done the moment they stepped inside. They were sitting in two of the three chairs with a medium sized table. Right next to it is the kitchen, separating the two places with only the countertop. Left to them were some bookshelves full with books about old species—like shapeshifters—and their customs, medicine and herbs. Then there was the door the man just left in and he assumed their was a hall that lead to a bedroom and maybe a bathroom.

After taking it all in he ordered Nathan: “Take a rest. We’re both tired and he doesn’t seem like a bad person, considering he took in two strangers without asking a question and helping them immediately. We can go back after we’ve restored our energy and the storms over.” Nathan nodded, his normally stoic face was slightly showing exhaustion.

They sat there in silence again, until the grey haired man came back—who immediately went to the kitchen. Since it was an open kitchen they could still communicate and see mostly what was going on on the other side.

The man grabbed a pot which already had water in it, took some of the already cut vegetables, threw them in the pot and lit a fire. Then he turned his head around and asked: “I’m Enon by the way. What are your names and why the hell were you outside during this weather.” “We’re Akit and Nathan. And for your second question: we were about to go back to the place we were staying when the storm hid, which made us get lost until the cat found us. Just to be sure, it’s a cat right and is it alright?” Enon turned away from them to add some herbs and answered: “He’s fine. Just needs some rest. For the first question, you’ll get your answer tomorrow.

Kishiar thanked the man with a bright smile that the latter didn’t seem to like when they got a bowl of soup. Nathan too thanked him with a short nod, which the man seemed to appreciate more. When they were done eating they were escorted—more like being dragged—to a room with two beds and a desk with more medical books.

“Go to sleep,” Enon said before slamming the door shut. Though he was curious, he knew his body needed to rest and he stepped into the left bed, while Nathan took the right one. After a short while, only the sounds of even breathing was heart from that room.

꧁✪꧂

The next morning when Kishiar woke up, he felt a lot better. His vessel, which had become unstable yesterday, was back to normal again. He felt refreshed after the long nap and when he looked at Nathan, he could tell the stoic man felt the same. When they opened the door, there were a bunch of fresh clothes laying right in front of it. Nathan grabbed them and handed the larger pieces to Kishiar. After they changed they walked towards the main room where they had sat yesterday.

There was a young stoic man sitting at the table with hair as dark as the void and his eyes, which at first glance looked the same until he looked up at them and light hit his face, revealing a faint violet colour within and if he was seeing it correctly... ‘His pupil looks slightly vertically elongated.’ Never in his life was Kishiar so mesmerised by someone. The two parties continued staring until Enon told them to stop standing like ‘dumb chickens’ and to sit down.

“My name’s Kishiar and this is my friend Nathan. May we know yours?” He asked with a bright smile after both he and Nathan occupied the two other seats in the room. Instead of an answer, the boy just stared and blinked once. An uncomfortable silence followed, but neither side broke it. After a few minutes of staring, Enon finally had enough. “That kid’s Yuder. Also the one that saved your asses yesterday.” He then placed some bread with goat cheese in front of all of them, except for yuder.

Kishiar and Nathan gave each other a confused look with the comment and then went back to silently observe. Yuder had changed his attention to Enon, looking slightly uncomfortable, but his expression soon changed back into a stoic face.

“Are you perhaps an awakened too?” Kishiar asked Yuder. The latter nodded and when he got a stern look added: “…Yes. I can control all elements of nature.” ‘…That’s unexpecting.’ But before he could ask a follow-up question, Enon ordered them to eat first and then ask questions.

Enon then grabbed two bowls and set them on an unoccupied space on the table. One was filled with what he assumed what goat milk, while the other was filled with pieces of raw fish. He looked at Yuder with a stern expression and said: “Move.” It took a moment for the younger to react, but once he did there was a black cat sitting on the chair Yuder just sat. The cat then jumped onto the table and waited until Enon sat and started eating too, to begin its own breakfast.

‘… Are we allowed to know this?’ When he glanced at Nathan for the umpteenth time, the other looked quite uncomfortable and slightly confused after witnessing it, but knowing they probably wouldn’t get an answer before they finished their meal, they went back to eating in silence.

After they finished their portion Kishiar decided to go for it. With a polite smile he commented: “Please correct me if I’m wrong, but if Yuder’s powers are the elements, does that mean he’s from a species, known to be extinct, called shapeshifters?”

Instead of Enon giving an answer, the cat—Yuder nodded. Enon then added: “It would be nice if you could keep it a secret, but even if you tried to tell people, they wouldn’t believe you and this brat sucks at acting like a cat.” So it doesn’t matter anyway since you would’ve figured it out anyway.

Understanding the unspoken words Kishiar clarified that they, of course, would keep it a secret and thanked both of them for helping them out. After Nathan did the same, Enon told them to shut up, because: “That’s what every decent person would’ve done.” Yuder, who had changed his position from sitting to loafing, nodded, agreeing with Enon’s words.

“…Do you normally stay like this or?” Nathan asked Yuder, who—in his turn—looked at Enon. The latter sighed loudly and answered Nathan. “Only when he’s used too much energy. Wandering in the snow for ours and keeping yourself warm for instance. But for the rest he sleeps a lot, like a cat, in both forms. Now, both of you should lay down back again and only come out after a good rest, so shoo.”

Kishiar wanted to object and at least help with the dishes, but Nathan was ahead of him. “We’re fine, the rest of last night was good enough. We should at least help cleaning up.” Enon scoffed at that remark. “Fine they say! Both of you looked like two corpses especially you!” He pointed at Kishiar. “I know healthy people when I see them and right now I see none. If I would need help, I would just ask the brat, so rest and don’t make me repeat myself.” “Then we’ll excuse ourselves. Thank you for the meal,” Kishiar said and then he and Nathan walked back to the room they stayed in before.

“Interesting people don’t you think, Nathan?” Kishiar asked his adjutant, once they were both seated on their own beds. “Yes, your grace.” “We should ask them later for the way back to the camp. General Gino must be very worried.” His adjutant nodded and Kishiar added while he laid down: “But for now we should rest or I fear we’ll be severely scolded.” Nathan looked a bit annoyed, but obediently lay down, resulting from loud laughter from his master.

꧁✪꧂

While Enon was doing the dishes, Yuder moved to the windowsill where the most sunlight came in, closed his eyes and went back to sleep. After Enon was done with the dishes, he grabbed one of his many unfinished notebooks, a pencil; sat down on his chair, and started to write.

Things remained this way until the two guests came back. The moment the door opened and ‘Akit’ and Nathan walked in; Yuder opened his eyes and sat up, while Enon closed his book. Only after thoroughly scanning the two men and noting that they indeed did rest, did he tell them to sit.

As they sat, Enon put away his stuff, before going back to his chair. “If I may,” Akit asked, “do you know how long the storm will last?” Before Enon could answer, Yuder changed back into his human form—though still with two cat ears and a tail—and spoke: “It’ll stay like this for another two to three days before you can go back.” “How do you know?” Nathan asked slightly surprised. Yuder shrugged and this time Enon answered. “Animals are sensitive to weather change and this’s a quirk he’s had since he was young, so you better listen.”

The conversation evolved into Akit and Enon talking about shapeshifters, their origin and their differences and similarities with humans, while Yuder and Nathan silently listened.

That was until Nathan noticed Yuder’s attention had switched to the sword on his masters side. As a way trying to express gratitude, Nathan awkwardly asked Yuder if he was interested in the sword. The latter answered that he was just looking since he’d never learned or used one. “…If you would like, maybe I could teach you someday—in better weather, of course—if you’d want?” Nathan offered. Yuder only nodded, but the sparkle in his eyes were obvious.

The rest of the talk went by less awkwardly. Nathan explained things about the swords and techniques, and answering Yuder’s question, while Yuder in his turn told him about the forest and the situation from when the stone fell. That last comment seemed to stop the conversation from Enon and Kishiar, since Kishiar interfered: “Did you notice any big changes beside awaking since the stone fell?” After thinking for a moment Yuder slowly nodded. “…The weather. It’s more unpredictable.” “Like this snowstorm?” Nathan asked. “…Yes.”

With everyone in their own thoughts, it was quit for a moment. “It’s already getting late, I’ll prepare dinner.” Enon said. “I can help.” Nathan offered and this time Enon didn’t shoo him away, just nodded, and so they went into the kitchen. With two chairs free now, Yuder took Enon’s under Kishiar’s watch.

Using this as an opportunity, Kishiar asked Yuder some questions. After noticing the latter didn’t mind them and only seemed to be used to giving short answers—probably used to being a cat. When he talked about the world, Yuder listened with admiration. When he began about the sea in the south Yuder quietly said: “I’ve never seen the sea before.” Maybe because of the interest Yuder showed in his stories, Kishiar proposed: “You could come to Paletta with me, there’s a sea there.”

Like Nathan, he quickly noticed Yuder’s particular interest in the sword and when he questioned him about it, Yuder told the offer Nathan made him, which pleased Kishiar, but also made him a bit jealous. The other thing that he noticed was that Yuder liked his face with how intensely he stared at it before noticing and averting his eyes. For once, Kishiar was extremely happy with his extraordinary looks.

“What exactly is your relationship with Enon?” Kishiar finally decided to ask, knowing that it probably wasn’t a romantic relationship, but still having to be sure.

“He’s my brother—though not biologically. My grandfather knew him and after he passed away, Enon took care of me.” At the last comment Yuder gave a look like he hadn’t need Enron’s help at the time.
Before Kishiar could give a reaction, Enon, while cooking with Nathan in the kitchen, said: “Hah! Of course I took care of you. A thirteen year old, especially you, shouldn’t live alone.”

“I’m sorry.” Kishiar said, which resulted into Yuder giving him an odd look. “Why?” He wanted to answer, but was again interrupted by Enon placing a pot of stew on the table together with some plates. Nathan came after with cups and a teapot. This time there wasn’t anything different for Yuder.

Enon gave everyone a portion and leaned against the wall while he started eating. After a few bites, Kishiar asked: “You can eat this too, Yuder?” The boy looked up from his plate and nodded. “I can eat everything cats and humans can.” “But he prefers the cat food,” Enon snorted. Yuder, again, nodded—probably not even noticing the small mockery from his brother.

After they were done eating, Nathan helped Enon again while Yuder and Kishiar stayed seated. Kishiar was watching Yuder and noticed his eyes drooping. His two cat ears also drooped with them and twitched slightly as he yawned. Kishiar found it absolutely adorably and wanted to pet them badly, but held in.

“Hyung…” Yuder said and when Enon saw his tired brother, he ordered him to go to bed. After wishing Kishiar and Nathan a quick goodnight, he quickly went to his quarters. Enon explained that Yuder normally slept a lot—either in his ‘human’ form or his cats’. It was a habit he got from being a cat shapeshifter. He normally functions better at night, but with the weather being so unpredictable, Enon hadn’t allowed, forcing Yuder to change his schedule and sleeping more to be able to bear it.

After their talk with Enon finished, Kishiar and Nathan shorty consulted with each other before also going to sleep. It was then when the thought that had be brewing in his mind before really solidified. It would be nice if Yuder would join his future Calvary. The other thought that came up him was that he would miss him when the storm was over and he had to go back. He knew he couldn’t stay, but he could visit. And if he couldn’t he could always send Nathan with the—half—excuse for swordsmanship lessons.
‘Ah, shit.’ He had fallen in love.

꧁✪꧂

The next day, the weather outside hadn’t changed at all. He went over the idea with Nathan about how they could learn the sword to Yuder when the mission ended. Afterwards, Nathan helped Enon with all sorts of tasks, while he spend time with Yuder.

The young man took less time to respond to him and Kishiar really enjoyed all the ‘nothingness’ they talked about. When Enon and Nathan were out of reach, Kishiar patted Yuder’s head for the first time. The boy only flinched slightly at the beginning, but let Kishiar pet him as he wanted. Kishiar could swear he heard soft purring noises and it was mostly confirmed as he saw him relaxed with his eyes closed while he pet him.

“I feel ashamed that I forgot to ask this yesterday, but how old are you.” “Eighteen,” Yuder answered. “You?” Kishiar smiled brightly, liking the almost entranced look Yuder gave him. “Well, I’m a bit older then you. Twenty-seven.” The younger one let out a soft “ah..” before seemingly to think of something, but quickly discarded it when he saw Kishiar’s curious look—much to his disappointment.

The rest of the day was spend like the last one and the next day too, though the snow seemed to become less. When Enon asked Yuder about it—they were running low on resources, the latter said that the storm probably would only last about one to two days, maybe three at most.

Kishiar couldn’t describe the disappointment he felt at those words. He’s gotten quite attached to Yuder and even his grumpy brother, which they overheard—after Yuder got into an argument with him about something again—was apparently also an pharmacist.

He could tell that Nathan behind his stoic face felt it some way the same. When he looked at Yuder, he was surprised that the latter was already staring at him. His normally expressionless face looking a bit disappointed too, which Enon probably noticed too, since he soon distracted him with mentioning something about fish they could gather when the storm was over.

It took around one and a half days for the storm to settle, but since the sun was already going down, they postponed their departure until the next morning.

Kishiar couldn’t sleep that night at all. They already arraigned with Enon and Yuder the lessons Nathan would give and Kishiar promised to visit once in a while. Both Enon and Yuder seemed pleased with that. He was a bit regretful that he barely spoke with Yuder after the storm was gone, since the now cat was sleeping most of the time to ensure he had enough energy to lead them back to the camp.

After tossing and turning for a while, Kishiar decided to go to the kitchen for a glass of water. When he drank it, he felt soft fur gliding by his legs. Looking down he saw Yuder staring back straight at him, unblinking. “Couldn’t sleep either?” He said as he crouched down to pet him. The cat gave no answer and closed his eyes as Kishiar’s hand began to pet his head. The purring began soon after—more noticeable in this from then when he was a human.

They stayed like that for a while until Kishiar began to feel sleepy. He hoped the other didn’t notice, but Yuder sadly did and broke from their contact. As he trotted back to his room, he looked back and meowed. Kishiar took this as a sign to go back to his own quarters. Before the cat completely disappeared, Kishiar said quietly: “Goodnight, Yuder. I’ll miss you.” He flashed a sad smile before he left, leaving the cat staring before he too went back to sleep.

The morning came to quickly and the breakfast was in an uncomfortable silence instead of the relaxed one they had the past couple of days. That too, went by way too fast. Only Yuder would lead them to the camp—Enon would do groceries and “some other stuff,” as he said—so Nathan and Kishiar said their goodbyes to the angry, but nice man as they parted ways.

Yuder, back to his ‘human’ form, lead them through the snow and dense forest and slowly Kishiar started to recognise their surroundings. When they walked by one particular spot, he was reminded of the dead monster they saw that day. “That monster,” Yuder looked back with a bit of a confused look, “did you kill it?” Yuder turned back around and continued walking, dragging the silence along. “…Yes, but my powers don’t affect them, apparently, so it was a bit difficult.” The answer that came after a while wasn’t what Kishiar expected, but it was an important thing to remember. After a bit more detailed questions, the conversation died.

‘Its good that Nathan will teach him how to wield a sword, at least he can defend himself more easily.’

It took a bit more of walking, but eventually Yuder announced that they were almost there. “You just have to walk straight ahead. It won’t take too long, maybe thirty minutes max.” Kishiar and Nathan nodded. “Until next time,” Kishiar said with a light smile on his face. Next to him Nathan gave Yuder a nod and gave him some last minute fast training exercises he could do.

When Yuder was about to walk away, Kishiar pulled him into a hug. Yuder seemed to be startled about it at first, but soon hugged him back. They stayed like that for some time until Nathan, who had glanced away, said that they should really go back.

Reluctantly, Kishiar let go and patted Yuder on his head for his last time for a long time. Yuder whispered something very quietly so that he almost couldn’t hear it and then turned around and walked back. Kishiar stared at his back before Nathan called him.

General Gino worriedly ran to them, after he was informed by their arrival. He answered all of the questions asked, but left out some details here and there like that his saviours lived somewhere on the mountain and were kind enough to give them a place of shelter. The ‘who’ and ‘where’ were left out. The general didn’t comment on it and after they reassured him that both he and Nathan were fine, they went back to their tents.

It was only after Kishiar and Nathan parted and he the magical stove had lit, that he remembered the words Yuder had spoken: “I’ll miss you too…” Though it were completely normal words to be said, they still meant the world to him as they felt like a promise to reunite soon and he would make sure they would.

Maybe he should already ask his brother to change the law so when the time was ready and they were at that level, he could ask Yuder for his hand. And with that thought, he fell asleep.

Thanks to my lovely mother who helped me figuring out words or translating them from my native language to English (she made me write this)
