Work Text:
She should've known better than anyone that once she stepped a foot off the plane, that she would be dragged everywhere. It didn’t bother her, truly wasn’t much of an issue. The excitement that radiates from the other woman, the joy in listing off both activities and locations to visit…Truth be told she didn’t care what the destination or activity they were going to do, Liz is just happy to tag along with Nerissa. So, like any loyal and faithful woman, the redhead follows with no questions. It’s where she finds herself now, her suitcase long since tucked away and her clothes neatly placed in Nerissa’s drawers and closet. Liz quietly sits on the other woman’s bed, legs crossed and her hands mindlessly playing with the raven’s hair.
“I can’t believe you don’t remember when I told you!”
“Well…you’d have to be more specific.” Liz responds with, glancing over at Nerissa, who is now moving off the bed to stare at her better. Her response causes the woman to just sigh with a heavy air of dramatics, smiling pulling at her features and it makes the fire visible on her chest spark up just a tad more.
“We’re going to Culver’s for a date! You better make sure you brought something really nice to put on.”
Liz frowns, “Is this one of those places where it has a strict dress code or something?” Her question just hangs in the air, her eyes glancing at the suitcase that sits now tucked away near the closet door. Nerissa nods, “It does but…don’t worry! I know you always dress nice no matter the occasion.” The compliment makes her smile, hands moving on their own as she cups Nerissa’s face and brings her down to press a kiss to her lips. Damn her flame and picking up, the flames licking the underside of her chin as she chuckles, “Thank you Nerissa, I will make sure to look amazing and to match.”
The answer seems to satisfy the Raven, who returns the kiss with ease, laughing into the moment as she hops back, hands clapping together, “Alright then! Meet me outside when you’re ready!”
…
She knew better the minute that smile appeared on Nerissa’s face, that she was pulling something. It didn’t dawn on her even after coming down the stairs, the red dress she’s lucky she did pack sitting perfectly on her frame. Curses herself for not packing heels, but is doing her best with the pair of flats she managed to find after rummaging hard enough. The car ride isn’t as long, nor awkward, as she thought it was going to be. Nerissa converses with her the entire time, mentioning her favorites from the menu of this “Culver’s” and how she’s incredibly excited to show Liz how amazing it is. The moment both women pull onto the location, and Nerissa parks the car, she realizes two things. One, she is very sure that this location may not be as formal as she’s led to believe.
Two, why are they both dressed so formally for a place people are walking into wearing what looks like their pjs? She hesitates to unlock her car door, even so as she makes her time to slowly unbuckle her own seat belt. Liz turns to look, almost glaring, at the other woman. She stops short, taking in how beautiful Nerissa is in her dark blue dress, the slight shimmer of the fabric shining bright due to the neon glow of the Culver’s sign near them. She isn’t truly that mad, though she knows she’s more–
“This isn’t what I thought it would be, Nerissa.”
“Wait till you get inside then, Liz. You trust me, don’t you?”
The redhead sighs, the blaze on her chest betraying her in this moment, and begins to open her car door, “I do. You never have to question my loyalty or my trust to you, dear raven.” Liz replies with ease, moving out of the car. She makes quick work to round the car, opening Nerissa’s door and holding out her free hand. The other woman takes it and chuckles, leaning down ever so slight to press a quick peck on the knight’s cheek. “Well then fair knight, shall we go get our food?” The question is asked with a sense of glee from the other, the raven taking her hand with no question. Both women walk now hand in hand to the front entrance of the location. Liz makes sure to not stare, or ask many more questions, as both head inside.
The woman’s correct in her assumptions about this place being just a casual fast food place, but she is already here, dressed up to the nines, with a beautiful woman on her arm. She notices the stares from the other patrons, but none bother her one bit. Liz is used to them at this point, not everyday many see a woman with a living flame sat between her breasts. However, she can feel her need to guard Nerissa increase from the wandering eyes, her grip tightening on the hand she’s holding, which causes the raven next to her just to giggle. Both make it up to the counter no problem, and it seems Nerissa is a regular given how easily she talks to the poor sod at the register. They both exchange pleasantries, with Nerissa ordering her food with no problem, then she turns to Liz. “Well?” She begins, gently prodding Liz with a gentle push, “Do you know what you want?” This makes Liz think for a moment, her eyes scanning the massive, and bright, menu board.
“Hmm…” She thinks for a moment, eyes scanning the board, “The raspberry malt sounds good, along with I suppose the…chicken sandwich?” Liz is unsure with her choices, but both the woman next to her and the employee nod along with no other reaction. She’s relieved for this, grateful that what she picked was not too odd.
“By the way, Nerissa,” the employee says, which causes the attention of Liz in an instant, “You can have those pretzel bites for free! We made some for a previous order but never picked them up.” Liz can’t help the daggers that begin to form out of her glare, as the other woman is none the wiser. She thanks the worker, Nerissa, going so far as to hand her payment over and touching the person’s hand for the briefest of seconds. In response, though in hindsight she’d agree she might be overreacting, Liz just leans in with her raven. She hands the card over for her instead, and grabs the receipt, “Thank you.” Liz states easily, moving herself and Nerissa away from the counter where both women now wait for their food.
Waiting for their food doesn’t take long, and Liz is happy to get out of the place, mostly due to now her noticing all the stares Nerissa has been getting, though the other has not noticed one point, “I’m so excited to try what you got, Liz!” She mentions, the excitement evident, “Would you want to eat here or…Oh! We can sit at that park I was telling you about.”
“In…our formal attire?” Liz quirks an eyebrow, her jealous thoughts washed away into the sea now, focusing solely on her dear raven. Nerissa nods, smiling, “Why not? We make quite an entrance with how we look, why can’t I show you off a bit longer?” Liz stammers, her face going hot like the fire on her chest, before nodding quickly. She can’t find the words and can only respond by huffing.
“I suppose, let’s do that then, my dear raven.”
“I’m glad you’re quick to agree, my sweet scarlet.”
