Chapter Text
It was late in the evening on New Year’s Eve. Despite this, Nagisa found himself not at home waiting to celebrate the start of the new year with his mother, but on his way to visit his boyfriend, Karma.
Not that he really wanted to spend time with his mother. She could be rather difficult at times.
Instead, Nagisa would rather trudge through the snow and celebrate New Year's Eve with his boyfriend.
Nagisa arrived at Karma's place, and gave the front door a knock. He hadn't been able to see Karma since they started dating back on Christmas day. Which is to say, it's really only been a couple of days since they last saw each other, but that didn't change the fact that Nagisa missed him in that time.
Nagisa was debating knocking a second time, perhaps he was a bit impatient, when finally he heard the sound of footsteps and the door unlocking from the other side.
“Karma-kun!” Nagisa said excitedly as Karma opened up the door.
“Nagisa-kun, come on in, come on in.” Karma ushered the blue haired boy inside.
“Parents still overseas?”
“Yeah, I'll probably get a happy new year's text at like six in the morning from them or something. Same as usual really.”
“Sorry to hear that.”
Nagisa made his way inside, grateful to finally be out of the cold.
“I know it's a bit late, but here, your Christmas present. I only gave you a birthday present last time I came over, and I did say I'd get you something for Christmas as well. At least the wrapping paper is thematically appropriate this time, right?”
Nagisa handed Karma a present wrapped in Christmas themed wrapping paper.
Karma casually took the gift from Nagisa and set it aside on the counter.
“You aren't going to open it right now?”
“Nah, I've already got the only gift I need, right here~”
Karma wrapped his arm around Nagisa's shoulder and pulled him in close.
“Seriously Karma-kun? Aren't you embarrassed to be saying stuff like that?”
“Not enough to make me stop.”
Karma released him.
“So, How'd you convince your mother to let you stay the night over at your boyfriend's place, all alone I might add.”
“W-well, I haven't actually… told her that we're dating… or that I've got a boyfriend.” Nagisa said feeling incredibly guilty.
“B-but it's not because I want to keep us a secret, it's just, she can be a bit… difficult. I do intend on telling her, just not for the time being. I hope that's ok.”
“Fine by me, but it might make it awkward when you finally do tell her and she asks when we started dating.”
Nagisa could only respond to that with a groan of dread.
“I'm, I'm sure it will work out. Maybe.”
“So what did you tell her to let you spend New Year's Eve with me?”
“Well at first I tried bringing up how you were going to spend New Year's Eve since your parents likely will still be overseas, and how I wanted to keep you company so you'd be less alone, but that argument failed to convince her. Somehow the conversation shifted to talking about your grads, and after mentioning you are one of the top students in the whole school, she was suddenly quite enthusiastic about the idea of me spending time with you.”
“Ohhh, so she thinks you've come over to my place to study. It probably won't be what she had in mind, but I bet there's plenty of things I could teach you, Na-gi-sa-kun~”
Nagisa felt himself shiver as he involuntarily imagined a study session gone wrong between Karma and himself.
“Haha… not quite that either…”
Nagisa let out a nervous laugh as he pulled himself back to reality.
“I may have oversold her on your good qualities and so she approved this as more of a…. Study date.” Nagisa couldn't even look Karma in the eyes as he spoke.
“Study date?”
“well, the thing is, my mother has always been concerned about my future, so next to being successful at school, she also wants me to get married to someone who'll be smart and successful.”
“I’m touched that she thinks so highly of me, but does she know that your ‘friend’ is a guy?”
“Yep.”
“...Does she know that you're gay?”
“...no, she doesn't.”
Karma looked like he was ready to state the obvious when Nagisa interrupted him.
“Like I said, my mother is a bit difficult.”
“Either she can tell you're gay and just hasn't mentioned it, or something is wrong with her. Still, it is a bit funny, your mother trying to set us up, yet we're already dating.”
Nagisa let out a sigh.
Nagisa's mother had a bit of a complex. She always wanted to have a daughter, one that she could live through vicariously. The fact that Nagisa wasn't a girl wasn't enough to stop her. She simply treated him as the daughter she always wanted, as the daughter she wanted to vicariously live a successful life through. This included making sure her ‘daughter’ marries someone who is successful and who won't leave ‘her’.
“I know it's strange, but I promise I'll explain some day, okay?”
“Ok, I won't press you on it. Whatever it is, it sounds rough. Now quit standing around like that and make yourself comfortable.”
Karma had already gone and made himself comfortable on the couch, patting the spot next to him.
That was enough for Nagisa, as he quickly sat beside him, knee to knee, shoulder to shoulder.
“Karma-kun.”
“Mhm?”
“This is nice.”
Nagisa snuggled up closer to Karma, resting his head against Karma's shoulder.
“I guess I did tell you to make yourself comfortable.”
“So, what should we do now?”
“Want to verse me in some videogames again?”
“Ugh… I don't think I want a repeat of last time…”
“What? You won a few times didn't you?”
“Once. And only because you went easy on me. You didn't let me win a single time after.” Nagisa huffed.
“Oh right, I completely destroyed you. Thanks for reminding me.”
“Anyways, how long until New Year's?” Nagisa asked.
Karma pulled out his phone to check the time.
“About five hours to go.”
Getting to spend five hours alone with Karma-kun…
Nagisa wanted to just enjoy the moment with Karma, but his mother was still on his mind. He didn't want to be thinking about her, not right now, but he just couldn't stop. He felt a knot in his stomach, an anxiety brewing inside of him.
“Nagisa-kun, you've gone quiet again.”
“Say, Karma-kun, you do love me, right?”
Nagisa regretted even asking. It felt rude. As if Karma had given him any reason to doubt his feelings for him.
“Hm? Where's this coming from? I don't think I'd be dating you if I didn't.”
Of course Karma loves him, otherwise why would they be dating. It was an entirely reasonable answer, a rational answer, but Nagisa didn't feel the anxiety go away. Anxiety isn't rational.
“I guess. But it's not just because I look a bit like a girl, right?”
The question hurt to ask. Nagisa wasn't sure if he wanted to hear the answer. He had no reason to suspect that Karma would give an answer that would hurt him. Yet doubt and worry overrode logic.
“Does this have something to do with your mother?” Karma's tone sounded a bit more serious than before.
Nagisa flinched a bit at the accusation. He was spot on.
“Something like that.” Nagisa moped. Something that Karma definitely picked up on
Karma reached over and pulled Nagisa closer to him.
Warm...
“Nagisa-kun.”
“Y-yes?” Nagisa said, slightly startled.
“I like you.”
“I know that already.” Nagisa mumbled.
“Not because you look a bit girly, and not in spite of you being a guy. I like you for you.”
Nagisa sat there in silence for a moment, before speaking back up again.
“Really?”
“Really. Now are you feeling better? Heart to heart shit like that isn't exactly my forte.” The ever calm and composed Karma said with quite the blush on his face, trying his best to feign a carefree attitude.
It wasn't enough to wipe away all of the bad feelings, and it would be something he'd need to address one day, but for now, it was enough. For the time being, he felt just a bit less doubt about himself as he continued to enjoy Karma's warmth.
“I think you're actually quite good at it.” Nagisa teased.
“Well of course I am, I can do anything I put my mind to. But just because I can doesn't mean I want to.”
Nagisa was already feeling much better.
“But don't think this means I won't stop teasing you. Your reactions are just too fun to stop now. Besides, I'm still waiting for you to put on that female Santa costume I got you for Christmas.”
Nagisa kind of expected as much.
“Ugh… seriously? Will you and Nakamura-san ever give me a break?”
“Your fault for being so fun to mess with, and cute I might add.”
“Remind me why I'm even dating you again?”
“Because you just love me so much.” Karma said with a teasing lilt.
Nagisa didn't have a comeback for that, so he simply sighed in defeat.
Unfortunately, he did love him that much.
It was finally nearing midnight. Ultimately, they did end up spending most of that time studying. Only in the last half hour leading up to midnight did they decide to stop studying and sit on the couch together, waiting for the beginning of the new year.
“How much longer ‘til midnight? I'm getting kind of tired.” Nagisa yelled from the couch.
Karma was currently in the kitchen getting them some more snacks to keep their energy up.
“We've got about ten minutes.” Karma replied back as he made his way over to the couch.
“Ugh… I might pass out before then.” Nagisa whined.
“Then how about we kiss?”
“W-what?” Nagisa said, clearly startled by the sudden question.
“It'd make it harder for you to fall asleep, right?”
“Well, yeah, it would…” Nagisa reluctantly mumbled.
“You also scored the highest in that kissing test Bitch-sensei ran, Right?”
“Yes but I don't see how that's related.”
“You should be smart enough to piece it together. Let me see just how good a kisser my boyfriend is.”
Karma sat back down next to Nagisa.
“Can't we kiss normally at least?”
“Aww, are you holding out on me?”
“It's just, it’d be embarrassing.”
Karma let out a sigh.
“It’s ok, I get it.”
“Thank you for being understanding-”
“You just don't want to kiss me, or tell your mother about me, or tell her that you're gay. Oh! But you'll happily make out with Bitch-sensei. Did I get all that right?”
“You aren't being understanding at all!”
Karma was grinning with satisfaction, clearly amused by Nagisa's outburst.
“Like I said, my mother is difficult, and I didn't happily make out with Bitch-sensei either. Also, it's not like I said we couldn't kiss.” Nagisa grumbled.
“Don't worry, I was just messing with you, you just make it so easy. I'll still take that kiss though.”
“I don't know if you deserve one now.”
“Whaaat? Don't be like that, Nagisa-kun. I was just teasing~”
“You could at least try to sound sorry about it.”
“I don't want to lie to you though, and I’d be lying if I said I was sorry.”
“When did you grow a moral conscience?”
“About a minute ago after I tried to guilt trip you, why do you ask?”
“How convenient.”
“So, can I kiss my boyfriend now, or are you going to keep deflecting?”
Nagisa took a bit longer to reply this time.
“Ok, fine.”
“Haha, you don't have to try and sound so upset about it. Especially when your face is that red.”
His face was indeed blushing, but who could blame him? Sure, they were boyfriends, but they hadn't actually kissed yet. And sure, ok, maybe Nagisa has a bit of experience with kissing, and Karma was hopefully just going to give him a normal kiss, but it was still enough to make Nagisa blush.
“Just make it quick.”
“I'll take as long as I want.”
Karma planted a kiss on Nagisa's lips. True to the agreement it was just a normal, regular kiss. Plain. Simple. Boring.
Why do I feel disappointed…?
“Ngh… hey, Karma-kun, maybe a proper kiss is fine too?” Nagisa said, trying his best to not sound desperate, yet failing.
“why the sudden change of heart, Nagisa-kun?”
“I don't know, I just felt like it. So are you going to kiss me?”
Karma let out a laugh as he tilted Nagisa's face by the chin using his hand.
“Of course I am, no need to tell me twice.”
The next moment Nagisa felt Karma's lips lock with his in a more passionate kiss then before.
“Mmph…!”
Nagisa let out a muffled sound. He wasn't able to speak.
Karma took this as a sign to keep going.
But Karma wasn't going to be the one in control for much longer.
It was unassuming at first, Nagisa's hands reached out to take hold of Karma's head. Karma was blissfully unaware that Nagisa had just trapped him.
He had made the fatal mistake of underestimating Nagisa. He should have known better. Karma knew that behind Nagisa's ‘harmless small animal’ outer shell, lied something dangerous inside. Yet in his passion he let his guard down, and that something dangerous struck.
Karma felt Nagisa's tongue suddenly push through and past his lips.
This was no accidental or coincidental move. Nagisa had launched a counter attack.
Bitch-Sensei’s kissing technique.
Karma tried to turn the tables, to recover control, but it was too late, Nagisa had already taken control of the situation from right under him.
1 hit.
3 hits.
5 hits.
11 hits.
18 hits.
25 hits.
Nagisa was a good kisser. Too good. Karma had to push Nagisa off him. It felt like a matter of life or death. Using his superior strength he pushed Nagisa off him as hard as he could. It was only just enough to break the kiss.
“Hah… hah… are you trying to suffocate me, Nagisa-kun?”
“But I wasn't done yet…” Nagisa whined.
“Yeah well, I would’ve been ‘done for’ if you kept that up.” Karma said as he wiped his lips with the back of his sleeve, still catching his breath.
“I was going to stop before you passed out.”
“Well, aren't you generous.”
“You're the one who wanted a kiss. What's the time anyway?”
Karma pulled out his phone.
“It’s 12:02.”
“Wait, did we… miss midnight?”
“Appears so, we must've been too distracted kissing.”
Nagisa couldn't help but grin sheepishly after hearing that.
“Maybe next year we won't miss it… and Karma-kun, h-happy late new year.”
“Happy new year, Nagisa-kun. You aren't planning on going home this late at night are you?”
“Probably not, is it alright if I stay over?”
“Of course. I didn't plan on letting you leave anyway. Just asking for the sake of formality~”
“Ugh… you could've kept that to yourself, y'know?”
“I do wonder how you'll explain this to your mother tomorrow though.”
“I'll… think of something.” Nagisa said unconvincingly. It was definitely too late to head home now, and his mother was aware that he was going over to celebrate New Year's, so it wasn't unreasonable to assume that meant his mother had already assumed he would be staying the night there also. At least, that's what Nagisa was counting on.
Regardless, that would be a problem for tomorrow.
Tonight, he was going to sleep over at Karma's place, his boyfriend's place.
I wonder what the sleeping arrangements will be… we aren't… going to sleep together… are we…?
“Thinking of something, Nagisa-kun?”
“N-no! N-nothing at all!”
“You're cute when you're flustered.”
“...Thanks for the compliment I suppose. So, where am I going to sleep?”
“What a good question, Nagisa-kun. I suppose you've got two options.”
Karma stood up from the couch and stretched his arms high.
“You could sleep on the couch, or, you could sleep in my room, in my bed, with me. Which would you prefer?”
Karma turned his head to look towards Nagisa, a shit eating grin plastered on his face.
“Are you really going to make me say it?”
“Say what?”
“I'd like to sleep in your room, please.”
“In my bed?”
“In your bed.”
“With me?”
“Yes, with you.”
“Great, wonderful even. It's quite late so we should go to bed right away.” Karma let out a carefree laugh as he grabbed Nagisa by the hand and pulled him off the couch, causing him to almost stumble over forward.
“W-woah! Hey, slow down! Aren't you being a bit too eager?”
“I don't know what you mean, I'm being the same as ever.”
Nagisa hesitantly followed Karma to his bedroom.
We're really doing this, aren't we? I'm really going to share a bed with Karma-kun? W-well, we are dating so it was bound to happen eventually, but isn't this too soon? We haven't even gone on a date yet…
Nagisa thought to himself as he stood outside Karma's bedroom door. With one final hesitant step forward, he stepped inside.
