Chapter Text
Whenever I close my eyes, I see a beautiful field of flowers.
When I opened my eyes today, I saw my girlfriend, Teto.
She was peacefully sleeping. It was 7:57, so earlier than she had to be awake for work.
I lethargically got out of bed, careful not to make too much noise.
I mechanically went through my wake-up routine before I began making breakfast for the both of us.
I hummed as I worked, adding the right amount of salt to some eggs, so both of us would like it.
I felt a pair of hands grab my waist from behind.
“You want your breakfast before or after you get ready?” I ask.
“Mmh,” is the only response Teto gave me.
I giggled.
She’s always so cute when she’s sleepy, I thought.
After Teto had left for work, I was alone with my thoughts.
I busied myself with cleaning, but I couldn’t help but feel unfulfilled without Teto around.
Ever since I quit the idol industry, I’d done my best to stay lowkey.
This resulted in me not going out often. I didn’t even have a phone.
Maybe I’d feel less lonely if we got a cat, I thought.
I had suggested the idea to Teto multiple times, but she always shut it down for one reason or another.
I even said I’d get a job to pay for it! I thought, come to think of it, why haven’t I gotten a new job yet? It’s not like anyone’s stopping me…
For some reason, it felt like I was forgetting something important.
I stared at the vase on the table in front of me, a beautiful vase of flowers.
When all the cleaning was done, I lounged on the couch.
I put on some generic-looking tv show to pass the time.
It all just kind of blurred together.
I hadn’t even realized Teto was back until I felt a hand poke my cheek.
“You’re back early,” I commented.
“Yeah, I decided I could just finish it at home,” Teto explained.
“Well, after we finish up this level,” she said smugly.
She booted up our console and took out the controllers.
We played games together for a while.
Teto then got up to use the bathroom.
Teto’s phone rang on the coffee table.
I decided to at least check who was calling.
A sudden rush of anger hit me when I saw that it was Teto’s mom calling.
Why would Teto’s mom be calling? Doesn’t she know what ‘no contact’ means? I thought before picking up.
“What do you want with her?” I spat into the phone.
“What do I- who’s speaking?” The voice on the other end asked.
“What do you want?” I repeated firmly.
“Is this one of Teto’s friends?” Teto’s mom guessed.
“It’s MIKU,” I growled through gritted teeth. Surely Teto’s mom would remember my voice.
“Miku? Miku’s dead. Is this some kind of joke?”
My anger melted away and was replaced by frustration.
“Dead?” I echoed.
The phone was lifted out of my hands.
I was too focused on the call to notice that Teto had returned from the bathroom.
She now loomed over me, expression blank.
“Teto? Teto, why did your mom say that I’m dead?” I asked.
I searched her face for an answer but she revealed nothing.
Teto stepped closer to me wordlessly.
“Teto?” I squeaked.
“Just make this easy for yourself,” Teto mumbled.
She pinned me to the couch. She started lifting up my shirt but I stopped her.
“What the fuck are you doing?” I breathed.
To my horror, she just looked… annoyed.
Like the fact that I was resisting her was just an inconvenience.
I felt a sharp pain as her nails dug into my skin.
There was a sickening ripping noise as she peeled my skin off.
I tried to fight back, to yell, to do anything, but I couldn’t.
I couldn’t even cry.
I saw her reach down, and then I heard a click! noise, a n d t h e n . . .
