Work Text:
You sat across from Bob at the little café, the hum of conversation around you fading into nothing. His hands wrapped around his coffee cup, eyes tracing your face like he couldn’t quite believe you were real.
“I’ve waited my whole life to meet someone like you,” he said quietly, his voice low enough that you almost thought you’d imagined it.
You blinked, your heart skipping. “Bob…”
He reached across the table, fingers brushing yours, warm and steady. “I mean it,” he said, eyes earnest, shining with something you hadn’t seen before. “It’s like… everything before you was just preparation. And now, here you are.”
A soft laugh escaped your lips, half disbelief, half joy. “I feel the same way,” you admitted, squeezing his hand gently.
He leaned closer, forehead resting against yours. “I don’t want to waste a single moment,” he whispered. “I want every day to start and end with you. Every laugh, every quiet moment, every little thing… I want it all with you.”
You pressed your lips to his in a tender, lingering kiss, the world around you melting away. “Then I guess we better not waste any time,” you whispered back.
Bob smiled, the kind of smile that made the sun feel dim compared to the light in his eyes. “Not a single second,” he agreed. And in that moment, with his hand in yours and his heart so open, it felt like home, like forever, like finally.
