Chapter Text

Mason ‘Dipper’ Pines had once thought his relationship with his twin sister Mabel would last forever. They had been through so much together, from school all the way to Weirdmageddon but life could be cruel sometimes. Why had the twins been sent to Gravity Falls that summer? Not to have fun with their grunkle as it turns out, no, their parents needed time to finish their divorce. When Dipper and Mabel returned from that summer of fun, adventure and friendship, they were ripped apart from each other. Their parents moved to opposite sides of the country and only saw each other on video calls. No matter how much each of them begged, their parents refused to let them see each other in person.

It had been over a year and the thought of Mable still haunted his dreams. Once inseparable, now forever separated.

Dipper delved deep into the supernatural to cope. Even more so than before. Dipper had been keeping a new journal, to replace the ones bill destroyed and -with the help of Grunkle Ford- he had documented quite a few new supernatural phenomena. It was on one of these hunts that he found that which would forever change his life. He was following the magical resonance with the help of special glasses he and grunkle Ford had developed.

Supernatural creatures left behind an invisible trace which, with special crystal lenses, he could uncover and follow. In Gravity falls, these traces were everywhere but in Connecticut, where he now lived, they were much rarer but every trace led back to one city, Gravesfield. He had already found several magical artifacts in this city, potions of green color which healed minor injuries, cards which could come to life and a few others, all of which he had noted down in his journal but now, he was after the biggest resonance.

A hundred different trails all led back to one, decrepit house in the woods. It hadn't been used in a very long time but he could see the trails leading off from the door.

As it turns out, he had approached at exactly the right time, for a glowing door appeared not even ten minutes after he arrived there. He quickly texted his father that he’d be away for some time at a ‘new friends’ house’, his favourite excuse. Why his father never wondered what he was doing for weeks at someone else's house, he didn't quite know but if it works, it works.

So, he stepped through the magical threshold.

He appeared in a rustic living room, lit entirely by half burned down candles. In front of him stood three beings, two seemingly human, a girl around his age, Dominican with dark hair and eyes, wearing a lavender/white shirt and shorts; an older woman, approximately Stan and Ford’s age, with bushy hair and golden eyes, wearing red; and last but certainly most peculiar, a small, dog like creature with an exposed skull. What was even more eye catching was that everything, everything except the girl, glowed, as if they were in Gravity falls. This place was full of supernatural energy.

“Fascinating… could you tell me where I am?”

“Another human? Do you know this one, Luz?” The old woman asked the girl, Luz.

“No? I don't think so… who are you?” Luz cocked her head like a confused puppy.

“The name is Dipper, a supernatural researcher. I have been following a trail of magic to this place” Dipper explained, “this is fascinating… did that door teleport me to another place? Another dimension? A different time?”

“Well, ‘Dipper’, that door did indeed take you to another dimension, the demon realm”, Luz told him, “I only came here today too and this place is awesome! Magic is everywhere. Witches, demons and- as I was just saying to Eda and King here, I want to stay to learn how to be a witch!”

“What?” Eda snorted, “humans can't become witches!”

“Maybe that is just because no one has tried yet! I want to at least try!”

“Let her stay, she could make us snacks!” King stage whispered.

“I would very much like to stay as well. This place could be a fascinating new chapter in my journal”, Dipper said as he looked out the window. Trees he had never seen before, steam rising from the sea, as if it was hot, strange creatures flying up above, all of which were just radiating magic. His fingers tingled with all of the different research materials.

“Fine, I guess I could use a little help keeping king entertained”, Eda relented with a short sigh, “you can keep the spare room”

“Really?!”, Luz jumped up and down whilst Dipper simply nodded.

“Say though… you said you followed the magic here… how did you do that, as a human?” Eda turned to Dipper.

“With these”, Dipper tapped the rim of the glasses, “it's made from a special crystal and cured under concentrated moonlight to expose hidden magic or other supernatural elements”

“You make it sound like there is magic in the human realm?”

“Oh there is. Most of it is concentrated in one town but there still is plenty of it outside as well. That town, Gravity Falls Oregon, is like a magnet for abnormalities. My grunkles live there”

“Well I know where I'll spend my next summer vacation”, Luz said, “you gotta tell me all about this ‘gravity falls’”

“Of course! It is way too rare that I get to talk to someone about my adventures and have them actually believe me! I will tell you all about it. From gnomes to dinosaurs and even some magic”

“Wait- you know magic?!” Luz and Eda asked at once.

“That I do. I have an entire chapter in my journal dedicated to arcane rituals and spells. One time, I accidentally raised the dead and we had to-”

That day was spent retelling stories of his adventures in Gravity Falls and by the time they got to bed, he had barely scratched the surface of his adventures and further research.
