Chapter 1: The “first” of many

Chapter Text

Zip- “Hello” He/She/They

Clem/Clementine-“Hi”  She/Her

Sal/ Salem -“Hey” She/They

Wait for me Cal!” Yelled the tallest of the three children, as they tried to not trip nor lose sight of the child.

“WHY ARE YOU GUYS SO FAST!! AGH-” Screamed the shortest of the three, as she fell off of a log, recovering surprisingly quickly. Slightly catching up before falling behind again. “Slow down please-!” Slowly getting left behind.

The two children finally stopped to look back only to see that their friend wasn't there anymore. The two looked at each other with grim expressions as the world seemed to stop spinning and go quiet. The birds that were once so loud had seemingly disappeared without a flutter of a wing or the creak of a branch. If the two children didn't know any better they'd believe that there wasn't anyone there to begin with.

The sudden disappearance made the smallest of the two remaining kids, Clem, a soft spoken gentle soul, looked as if she could break down at any moment. Which was understandable due to the fact that they were inseparable. They were twins after all, this was the first time in years that they had parted ways without a good bye. The poor girl didn't know what to do.

The poor thing began to weep such tears of sorrow, as the tallest of the kids ran to her side, hoisting her into their arms.

“Zip-sniff- where did Sal go-” Weeped Clem, as she clung to the other child. “She wasn't that far behind us…right?” Her voice being covered by her own sobs.

Zip, the oldest and the tallest of the group, didn't know what to do with Clem. They were never good at handling others, but were determined to keep the twins happy. The warm, wet feeling finally reaching their skin through the very shirt that Clem clung to. The poor thing didn't even know what to do anymore.

“Hey don't cry. I'm sure she is just messing around- hopefully.” Zip hoped Clem didn't hear the last word they said, but to Zip’s dismay she did. “How about we try to find her- oh please don't cry- oh nononono! It's ok. Please don't cry.”

“She left without saying a-anything to me. She's never coming back- never! Ne-ver! Never!" The poor girl began to cry harder and harder, tugging at her hair in distress. Her face turning a bright red as she coughed between sods.

Zip started to slowly walk around and look for the missing girl. They seemingly had been searching for an hour but the sky told a different tale as it was turning into an array of oranges, pinks, and reds as night approached. The two reluctantly retired for the night, heading back to their albeit empty home, as their parents were still at work.

It was far too quiet to call home without Sal’s usual cheery and loud(oh so very loud) presents. By the time that Clem and Zip had arrived home, if they could even call it that anymore- the child in his arms had long since stopped crying. Her face, red and puffy, as she had been crying for hours. The world that she once knew didn’t feel real anymore- her bed was half-empty, dinner was eerily silent- it was sickening. Then their mother came home, waking up Zip to question what happened to Sal. . .
