Work Text:
Lights up on Bamei in her dimly lit back office, sucking on a cigarette and reading a newspaper. Midori bursts through the door, letting in the light and noise from the common area. Bamei flinches a little.
Midori: Bamei! I have a job for your girls!
Bamei: You got us paid work? Shut the door and get in here!
Midori: Well, it’s not exactly paid…
Bamei: [Sigh] What do you need? More hands for another food delivery?
Midori: No, no, this one’s actually in your line of work. I need one of your girls to kill someone for me.
Bamei: Another politician? Listen, I can’t keep doing this for free.
Midori: Not a politician this time.
Midori grabs Bamei’s newspaper and points to a specific article
Bamei: That guy? You want me to risk my girls’ safety and gum up their schedules for no pay, just to off some rich asshole?
Midori: [Tapping the newspaper] Not just some rich asshole, look at all the people he’s killed!
Bamei: All rich assholes have killed. You don’t make a fortune without putting a few people in the ground. What makes him so special?
Midori: I bet you can name a dozen people off the top of your head who’ve been hurt by this man’s choices. His death is going to change lives!
Bamei: What about my girls? You really expect them to do such a high profile job for no pay? They could be risking jail time or worse, for nothing on their end.
Midori: Just trust me, I’ve got a plan. High profile enough to get attention but totally anonymous. I’ve worked out every possible flaw, all I need is a skilled gunslinger. This is gonna be the talk of the town. You’re always talking about how you need to keep up your reputation, right?
Bamei stops to think and lights another cigarette
Bamei: I need something in it for the pistols. Something more than just reputation. I’m trying to pay a living wage to half a dozen girls here.
Midori: Don’t you still have a fortune from that firebender’s money?
Bamei: Irrelevant. A charitable donation won’t last forever. Work has been slow for the past few months, and I can’t help but think it’s because criminals don’t want to do their business in the middle of a soup kitchen.
Midori looks back at the door nervously
Midori: Okay, if you do this, I’ll look for paid work for you. Really look. I know some people who could probably use your services.
Bamei: That’s a start.
Midori: And I’ll throw in a carton of cigarettes.
Bamei smirks and tosses Midori a gun
Bamei: Make it two and you’ve got a deal. You can take Fan.
Midori: You’re the best!
Cut to a spinning newspaper with a headline that says “CEO Down: United healthcare CEO shot in downtown Republic City!” A sub header says “Note from RCPD: “the killer looked too cool doing it, we’re just gonna let this one go”
