Chapter 1: After Sinsmas

Chapter Text

Things had been different lately since Sinsmas.

The loss of Stolas' status, magic after the court, the accusations, the fallout had led to Stolas living with Blitz at his apartment with Loona.

The IMP office hadn't changed much, still smelled like gun oil and burnt coffee. Blitz still barked orders while Loona rolled her eyes at the orders.

However, Stolas now sat behind the front desk as the receptionist of IMP. He answered phones, organised paperwork and learned the rhythm of the office eventually.
As if he belonged there in a way that would feel surreal looking back at the fact that he was the former Goetic Prince of Hell.
Comfortable.
Happy.

Blitz was happier too. It was obvious to anyone with eyes.
He laughed more, less in the condescending way directed to people and now with a smile upon his face.
He'd usually lean on the front desk with his arm lazily slung over Stolas's shoulder with comfort as if it was casual and no longer openly flinched away from affection in the way he previously did.

They seemed truly happy together...
Moxxie would often look away from these moments held between Blitz and Stolas.
Because once, he and Millie had looked like that.
The perfect couple...

Where Millie and Moxxie would openly be affectionate to each other.
Holding Hands.
Kissing.
Embracing.
Flirting.

Something had shifted between Millie and Moxxie - It felt as if a invisible wall had risen between them.
The last time things had felt right between the two was at the Sinsmas Party.

The memory flashed through Moxxie's mind uninvited, sharp.

Where Blitz's apartment had been filled with the sound of chatter of Loona and her friends and Stolas and Blitz chatting, the apartment was decorated heavily for Sinsmas. Moxxie stood near the table, with his arms holding a boardgame "Mammonopoly" where he noticed the arrival of Millie in the room after leaving the bathroom.

"Hey, sweetie!" He'd called out excitedly, leaning towards Millie, raising the Mammonopoly box to her. "We're about to start board games!"

Millie staring at her phone with an anxious look on her face before responding to Moxxie.
"I'll be right there, baby. Just calling the fam for Sins first."  Glancing towards Moxxie with a smile before excusing herself out of the apartment.

It was standard of Millie to ring her family for Sinsmas. Family meant the world to Millie, But something had felt off with Millie.
Her strong grip of her phone.
Her rush to the door.
The way time had passed and she hadn't returned right away.

And when she finally returned from the call.  The strength of her arms around Moxxie with a almost too perfect smile.
"Oh hey sweetie, How'd the call go?"

The way Millie's voice dropped low and her smile faded.
"It was nice..."

She grabbed Moxxie's hand and leaned in closer.
"You know I love you."

"I love you too"
As Moxxie put his other hand on her cheek and rubbed his forehead against hers as he smiled.

At the time, Moxxie had clocked this but put it down to home sickness of missing her family at this time of year.
Looking back at the memory
The way she stared at her phone and rushed outta the room.
The way she held Moxxie so strong as if she was afraid of losing him.
The way she grabbed Moxxie's hand and recommitting her love to Moxxie.
The way her eyes weren't really there.

Moxxie hadn't asked her about this. He wanted it to be a case of him being over paranoid and just only overanalysing Millie's actions but he noticed the way Loona's red eyes hovered the two of them at the Sinsmas Party. As if she had picked up on the tension changing between them.

Weeks had passed since the Sinsmas Party, where the Hell had seem to continue moving forward.

However ever since Sinsmas, She began to Pull away just a little more each day.
There was less conversations.
There was less eye contact and more focus on getting the job done.

Moxxie stood in the IMP Office by the water cooler as he attempted to cool these thoughts with a plastic cup of water.
Watching Stolas and Blitz at the front desk, while Loona had sat on the sofa staring at her phone as always.
Moxxie felt his chest tightened as he attempted to swallow some water, nearly choking resulting in a loud cough. He kept trying to deny there being a problem.

Until finally, Moxxie was left with a puzzled thought.

"Have I done something wrong?"
