I Still Do

Summary:

A short poem inspired by "MY IMMORTAL", by Signora Scuderia. Nothing compared to the original work, but I thought it'd be fun to write.

Notes:

(See the end of the work for notes.)

Work Text:

I still feel you, still see your smile
I still love you, still turn to you
I still tell myself lies, and pretend they’re true
I still wait, because not much else is worthwhile

Every day I wake up, wishing you were at my side
Every day I reach for your hand as I drive
Every day I exist, not dead, not alive
Every day your blood is as vivid as the night that you died

I can’t imagine a life without you at every corner
I can’t live a life where you aren’t here to hold me
I can’t have a world where you don’t walk with me by the sea
I can’t exist without you to make me warmer

I wish that I had stopped you from leaving that day
I wish the rain hadn't decided to come pouring down
I wish that I could go back, that the crash didn't take your crown
I wish the world weren't so cruel, because I still have more to say

I loved you like I loved the sun and moon
I loved you like I loved the air
I loved you like I loved your hands, threaded through my hair
I loved you, and I paid for it that afternoon

The sun rises every morning, crimson scatters across the sky
The sun rises every morning, and it's another morning you aren't here
The sun sets every night, and I wait for you, my dear
The sun sets every night, and you don't hold me as I cry

You were the only thing I could cling to, every day and every night
You were everything, anything, and now you're gone
You were words on a page, a story not yet drawn
You were tulips across miles of land, such a beautiful sight

You would hate to see me like this
You would tell me to move on, to live
You would whisper in my ear that the world has more to give
You would say a thousand things, but you’re the only one I’ll ever kiss

Notes:

Thanks for reading! And yes, I know you lot are waiting for an update on "Quiet Too Long", but I don't really have time to work on a long form piece right now, so I'll update when I'm home. Sorry!
