If Tomorrow I Lost It All(Would You Stand By Me?)

Summary:

What if Victor overheard Nova and Ray talking about taking all the bloodfruit instead of Vera? What if he didn’t hide the fact that he heard them and showed himself? What’s Nova gonna do about it?

Work Text:

“Nova!”

Ray stopped her in her path. They had just gotten the tower of the roots. They stopped the pulse. Things were okay again. Zed was fine. Eliza was running tests on the roots to double check everything. To Nova, everything seemed great. All they had to do now was get the final key.

At least, everything was great until Ray pulled her aside with that look on his face.

“I can’t believe you and that vampire have been working together in secret.” His face was painted with disgust and disappointment.

Nova, having about enough of this, steps closer, holding her head high. “First of all, his name is Victor.”

She didn’t know that Victor was just now behind the bush covering the tunnel that led out of the cauldron room. She didn’t know he was hearing her defend him. That fact made his heart warm, despite his cold vampire biology, and made him fall for her a little more.

Nova continued talking. “Second of all, I will do anything, and work with anyone, to get that third key.”

Ray looked at her like he couldn’t recognize her. “As long as we steal their share.”

Victor, still hidden, furrowed his brow, trying to wrap his head around that. He’d trusted Nova. He felt that she’d understood him, in a way nobody ever had. She had told him he sounded like the leader his people needed. And the whole time, she’d been planning to let him and his people starve

A completely new feeling coursed through his body.

It hurt. So badly.

Heartbreak

“Nova, you know what’s at stake, right? Your father, your leader, is depending on you.” Ray pointed at her, trying to meet her gaze as she still refused to look at him.

She opens her mouth to defend herself, to say that it’s wrong, that the vampires aren’t her enemies any longer.

But before she can, Victor comes out of the bushes. The heartbreak is clear on his face. Nova’s gaze goes straight to the vampire. Her eyes widen, panic spreading through her. She opens her mouth to explain, but he just shakes his head, walking away, fast. Nova shoots a look at ray, before running after Victor.

By the time she finally catches up to him, he’s on the hill above the crypt

Where he took her flying.

He’s standing with his back toward her, watching the starry sky.Hands in his pockets, posture stiff. His expression is blank, but his eyes are full of hurt.

”Victor?” She takes slow steps toward him

He doesn’t turn to her. Just keeps watching the sky. “You were going to let us starve.”

Nova keeps moving to him, finally reaching out to try and take his hand. He pulls away from her, taking his eyes of the sky, and down to the ground.

”I thought I could trust you, Nova. I wanted to so badly. And I did. You were my dream come true.”

He looks at her then. The heartbreak is evident on his face.

“I should have known that it was too good to be true.”

He starts walking away from her.

Her hand darts out, grabbing his, stopping him.

“Victor, please believe me. I would never do anything to hurt you or your people.”

He turns to her, slowly. “Yeah but your dad would.”

She looks up at him, expression begging him to forgive her.

”And last time I checked, you… work for him.”

She squeezes his hand. “I am my own person! You showed me that!”

He sighs, looking away from her.

She cups his cheek with her free hand, guiding his face back to her.

“Being here with you has opened my eyes! And I know something.”

He holds her gaze, eyes searching hers for a sign that she’s lying. Even though he knows she’s not.

“These visions brought us here, brought us to each other, for a reason. I may not know what that reason is just yet, but I know it isn’t so our people, so we, would just learn to hate each other.”

Victor nods hesitantly. “Yeah… It doesn’t add up.”

Nova lets go of his hand, and moves her other hand to cup the other side of his face. “But WE do!”

He smiles shakily, nodding. “I know.”

He rests his forehead against hers, still smiling, the heartbreak fading.

“Can I tell you something?”

Nova nods, opening her eyes to look at him.

He takes a deep breath, mustering his courage. “I’ve fallen for you, Nova. No one understands me like you do, no one has ever even had faith in me like you. You’re brave, kind, infuriatingly gorgeous,”

She lets out a shaky laugh at that one.

“And I can’t imagine myself with anyone else but you.”

Nova looks meets his gaze. She’s smiling like an idiot, but right now, she doesn’t care. All she’s thinking about is this kind, supportive, loving, handsome boy holding her, that just admitted his feelings to her. There’s only one thing she wants to do right now.

She uses the hands still cupping his face and pulls him down to her.

The kiss is gentle at first, both of them smiling into it, then he tilts his head to deepen it, his arms wrapping around her waist to pull her closer.

He’s thought about kissing her before. Wondered if she’d let him. What she’d taste like. If she’d regret it, what would happen after if she didn’t.

None of it matters now.

All he can think about is the feeling of her lips on his, her hand threading through the heart at the nape of his neck, her other hand still on his cheek.

She pulls away first, breathing like she just ran a marathon. He knows he isn’t much better.

“Woah…” the word slips out of his mouth.

And it really doesn’t do it justice.

He’d kissed girls before, just little meaningless pecks.

None of them compare to the feeling of kissing Nova.

She giggles, wrapping her arms around his neck. She rests her head on his shoulder. He holds her like that for a long time.

They both know they’ll have to go back to the real world soon

But right now, in each others arms, the only thing that matters to them is being together.
